Opinions on UI5?

Hi All,

I realize this has been discussed on many different threads but I was hoping to get some feedback from users (Vera II especially) that are running UI5.  UI4 has been stable for me lately after going through a LOT of pain when I first bought the Vera II back in October, but I just purchased a Minimote which is supported under UI5 but not UI4.  So I have an incentive to move to UI5.

Can people who are actually running UI5 please give your honest opinion, and whether you feel UI5 is "ready for prime time"?

You will have to look at what you will gain from upgrading and what you might loose by upgrading. I upgrade to UI5 for the same reason but I lost my streaming feature of my axis cameras. It was not a big comcern but would like it back but I can access the streams from my NVR. UI5 has been just as stable for me as UI4 was on my Vera2. I did have to update a couple of plugins after the upgrade. It did take alittle bit getting use creating new scenes. Hope this helps.

Ui5 has a pending firmware update coming. It has been delayed.  I have upgraded and downgraded in the past. I now have both running on two units but honestly prefer UI4 due to the current renderring speed over UI5.

Once other issues are fixed in UI5, like motion sensor etc, it does offer some real improvements with plugins. I also have the Minimote, but at the time it was I was prepared to stay with UI4. Hopefully the next UI5 firmware won't be too far away and it may be worth a short delay

I'd say wait.  My upgrade to UI5 went haywire.

I had to reset from scratch, and everything was good for a while.

Now I get constant hangs requiring manual reboots/power cycles.  :-(

I administer 9 systems and each one of my clients went back to UI4 after trying UI5.  They all hated it.  Most of the issue was the camera usability and how confusing it was for them to create scenes (as compared to UI4).  I guess it might depend on what and how you use it but in the case of all my users they prefer UI4.

So now I am (at this time) no longer installing Vera into clients homes since I cannot buy Vera2 anymore with UI4.

I have probably turned down 10 installations since I cannot get Vera2 anymore and MiCasa does not seem to care.

Vera2 with UI4 is stable and efficient and I wish they would have just improved on it rather than drastically change it to UI5.

How do you see your installation work in the future?  Will you offer Vera3 once UI5 stabilises?  I haven't had much experience with making scenes under UI5 yet; I haven't switched yet due to some incompatibilities which will soon  be fixed hopefully.  But perhaps it's merely a matter of getting used to a new UI; my stockist reported that his customers didn't find making scenes under UI4 particularly easy either, until they got a little experience under their belt.

I read about the Fibaro Home Center 2 on another thread and between the reviews from the guy who has it (and Vera) and the other information I was able to find on the web it looks really interesting, like Vera the way it should be.  I contacted them today and the U.S. version is planned for an April release.  I may just stick with UI4 until the Home Center 2 is released and then switch to that device.

FWIW I find making scenes better on UI5.  I have had Vera since Vera 1.  It is different and maybe not as obvious if you are coming from UI4 because some of the constructs are very different.  If you were starting new I would think UI5 would be easier.

The one big issue I have with the UI is the insane amount of scrolling, especially when working with scenes.  The screen elements are way larger than they need to be, and the top menu bar scrolls up and out instead of staying at the top of the screen.
