Migration Vera 2 to Vera 3 - zwave association

Hi All,

My Vera 2 is becoming very slow with UI and about 50/6O devices.

I would buy the Vera 3.

Should I then deassociate all the device from the old Vera or can I just associate them to Vera 3?

I m afraid to recover from a Vera 2 backup to avoid installing old plug in.

I'm thinking about this also.  Can any of the experts here tell us if there is a safe way to move from Vera 2 to Vera 3 short of uninstalling and reinstalling all the Z-wave devices?

Yes, you can do a restore of your Vera 2 to Vera 3. It would be seamless if the Vera 2 is on UI5.

I can't answer the part about the restore but I can tell you that UI5 is definitely available for Vera 2.  This also bumps the thread so it's more likely you'll get a response to the first part.

The easiest way to upgrade your Vera 2 to a Vera 3 would be to update the Vera 2 to UI5, then save the back-up and restore it on the Vera 3.

Is the upgrade procedure from Vera 2 to Vera3 the same if you are upgrading from a Vera2 with UI5 that has USB logging and a USB swapfile implemented?  I suspect one might have to disable USB logging and the USB swapfile before performing the migration.

On a side note, I recommend that everyone try to implement USB logging on their Vera2.  The performance boost is amazing.  The Wiki documentation for implementing USB logging says to use a 500 MB to 1000 MB flash drive formatted with FAT.  Those type of drives are almost impossible to find.  What I did was to purchase a new SanDisk Cruzer Fit 4 GB.  I removed all the software on the drive, reformatted it using FAT32 on my laptop, and installed it in the USB1 port of my Vera2 (turned off during the hardware install).  I then followed the USB logging procedure and waited patiently for the install to occur.

I ordered a Vera3 before implementing USB logging on my Vera2.  The performance increase on the Vera2 was so great that I wonder if I really need the Vera3 at this time.  I can see having a Vera3 for the future, but for the present my Vera2 is a very useful controller.

I did. It works in the sense that I can now see all my devices in Vera 3 (migrated from Vera 2) and all my scenes.

But I have this error "ZWave : No ZWave dongle" and I cannot communicated to any devices.

What can I do?

Make sure your zwave dongle port in settings is set to /dev/ttyS0. Vera 2 uses a different device port.

Does this migration work with Schlage door locks???

I upgraded from a Vera 2 UI4 to Vera Lite without any problems, except for losing recognition of my Panasonic cameras (an issue I'm still trying to resolve on this forum).

Otherwise, the migration went very well.  Schlage and Kwikset locks as well as all my switches, plugs and scenes all transferred fine.  There was no need to reprogram anything (except for the cameras, apparently).

Just remember to backup your Vera 2 locally and restore the file on your new Vera Lite or Vera 3.

I just received my new Vera3 and thanks to the guys here on the forum, things went without a hitch.!!
Things I learned to do BEFORE a migration from a Vera2, to the new Vera3;
-1. Update the firmware on Vera2, to v1.5.408
-2. Backup your system locally
-3. Setup Vera3, update the firmware to v1.5.408
-4. Upload your saved backup, from your local folder
-5. change the settings for you zwave, to point to port /dev/ttyS0

All went great and things do load faster and respond faster.
I will post more later as I learn more about the new Vera3

When I went to my site, I did the backup of my vera2 and started to upgrade it to UI5, but it said I had the latest version.

I did not know which URL I should use to download, so I decided to wait for 2 more weeks.

I am not sure why it could not find the upgrade, but can someone share the correct URL?
