Replacing alarm panel motion sensor--add z wave capability?
« on: December 11, 2018, 02:14:09 pm »
We have an alarm panel that, while I know it's doable, is going to be beyond my ability to integrate into vera. The alarm company offers their own app and automation and z wave support, so they aren't very amenable to helping me get it integrated.

I don't care as much about door sensors, but I'd really like to be able to access the hard wired motion sensors we have. Is it possible to replace the hard wired sensor with a z wave capable hard wired sensor and use the z wave piece thru vera and retain the motion sensing capability for the alarm system? I realize I could just add a second sensor, but it's nice to have it hard wired.

So what brand are we talking about ? There is no app to hook them together ?

Don't think think there are many "hard wired zwave sensors" out there AND the quality of "true" alarm-panel sensors is often much better then many zwave sensors.

The most efficient way to do this is to get your alarm panel and your Vera to communicate so you can see all of your alarm sensors on your Vera and you can control your alarm panel with your Vera.
You probably are not thinking about it now but automating outside lights based on doors opening, is only one great reason to do this.
To get this communication going, you will need a network adapter on your alarm system and a add on for that network adapter installed in your Vera. Unfortunately some alarm panels do not have these or the add on support in Vera.

One potential way to do this is to use the existing motions, but attach a z-wave relay that can read the open/closed status of that motion.  Like the door/window sensors that have a external connection.

But I agree with Jamr - if you can do a single network-level integration, that is really the way to go.  I would bet we are talking ADT Pulse,  however, and I don't know that integration is possible.  Search this site for the name of the alarm co...
Long Live UI5!  (OK finally made the switch to UI7 in January 2018, and am pretty happy....)

A Z-UNO would be the easiest way to do this (IMO). One device many inputs.....
Living in the Land of Oz, give me a vegemite sandwich. Home Seer, Vera Lite & Edge, Popp, Black Cat Smart Hub & Vera G, Black Cat Lite 1 & 2's a Black Cat Dimmer or 2, Fantem Tec and then some  Black Cat Cat's Eye PIR's & Door-Window Sensors, RFXComm, Broadlink RMPro & Mini plus a Z-UNO or 2.

If I understand what you are trying to do....it might be harder then panel integration.

I have heard some information about Konnected.  However, if you go this route you might as well move everything on your alarm panel.  I believe you would retain your panel functionality.  They appear to have some "how to " videos and claim you can up and running in minutes (translation: half a day to a weekend :))

Not the answer you were looking for but perhaps worth some looking in to.

Thanks all. Sorry to have not come back sooner?for some reason I?m not getting alerts on posts/IMs anymore and life got in the way of checking in on the thread.

We have a DMP alarm system. I?ve only been able to find one person here who managed to integrate it. I?m hopeful that he?ll be able to walk me through it when I have more time. We?ve moved and I?m in the process of setting everything up again from scratch. Our last alarm system was a vista and fairly straightforward, but this one is much more complicated and they sell access to an app for a monthly fee. Just find it annoying to pay monthly for something when I can?t even use the inputs in the way I want!

At some point I?d like to be able to turn lights on/off with doors, etc... but at this point I?d just like to be able to turn off lights and hvac zones when no one?s in the room again! I really wish there was a good hardwired or even plug in motion sensor!

Yes. If you have a N/C set of contacts, you can use a Ecolink door sensor.
1.) The Echolink has hard wire connection inside. Connect N/C contacts from your panel to the Ecolink.
2.) Pair the Ecolink to your Vera as zwave.
Use the Echolink to trigger vera scene to control lights etc.
Get ecolink at Amazon:

Hope that helps.
