Re: Wunderground Weather Plugin
« Reply #30 on: November 01, 2012, 06:45:39 pm »
I'm trying to use the Wunderground plugin to turn off a pump when the temperature drops below freezing.  I set up a scene to turn the pump off with a trigger from the temperature device when the temperature goes below 0 degrees C.  But for some reason the scene never receives a trigger (I have the display units set to metric and yes, the temperature has dropped below 0).  What am I doing wrong?

I have been playing around with different trigger values and switching between english and metric units, thinking that maybe it didn't like negative values or a value of zero.  But I don't think that's it.  The results are too random.  Sometimes I can get it to work for a short while before it falls over, but mostly not.  It seems really inconsistent retrieving temperature data.  The last few days the app has fallen over completely and I can't get it to update at all.  I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app.  I have tried using the default location and various local PWS sites.  No joy.

To get more details of what's happening, and what the values "seen" by Vera are over-time, you'll need to go look at the logs on Vera itself.

I think I'm printing out log messages from there.  If not, then enable Verbose logging in Vera, and look for "CurrentTemperature" in the log output.

This will change based upon the results of the WUI call, the stuff "immediately" around it will be the Scene evaluation logic that MiOS is running upon that value.

Crude, but it's the only way to dig into what the scene execution engine (or the WUI) is doing under the covers.

I have a trigger when   temp  goes above 35.
I live in Texas and we have not been below 35 yet this year.

This trigger fires every time the Vera Restarts.

I also have a trigger when temp goes below 35.
This does NOT fire.

It sure would be nice if this worked properly.

That would be Vera.  The Weather Plugin uses the standard Temperature component from MiOS, quirks and all unfortunately.  IIRC, they don't "store" the last trigger state in a persistent manner.  When Vera restarts the "threshold" has to be re-computed, so it sends the dup message.

Not sure why it wouldn't fire the other way around.  Either way, they really should persist the last trigger state against "scene" state to avoid the retrigger problem (either that, or never reboot - something mine does about 4-5 times/day, unfortunately)

Crap, I posted this under the weather plugin thread, and I think it should have been here:

Since last night, my weather data has not been updating.

I'm seeing lots of these in my logs:
Code: [Select]
50   11/12/12 20:19:26.868   luup_log:47: WUIWeather: fetchWeather returned error=Unable to parse result <0x2cb2d680>

Put in your API key to the URL here and you can see what I'm pulling:
https://api.wunderground.com/api/<key>/conditions/forecast/q/ksgs.xml

Did they change the format?

Edit - Here's what I got when pulling manually:

The current codebase isn't handling -ve values correctly.  In this case, the degC has gone negative, so my code is failing the whole row (even though you don't need the metric value)

Let me see if I can loosen up the parsing a little so it'll let this pass...

@signal15,
Try manually updating this one file:
    http://code.mios.com/trac/mios_weather/export/56/trunk/I_WUIWeather.xml

It contains a potential fix for the issue, and will work with the UI5 version from apps.mios.com.  Upload it via:
Apps -> Develop Apps -> Luup Files

Let me know if it fixes it for you, and then I can update/patch the version on apps.mios.com.

Let me know if it fixes it for you, and then I can update/patch the version on apps.mios.com.

Works!

Edit: The numbers that came back are all above 33 degrees.  If it was a -Celsius reading that was breaking it, then I'll have to wait until it gets cold again to tell you for sure.  But, the updated file doesn't seem to have broken anything.  :)

@signal15,
This change has been pushed to apps.mios.com as version 1.53.  Once it's approved, people should be able to get the fixes.

Correct.  I was wondering when you posted so quickly  ;-)

I was not not doing an upgrade or anything unusual ... now I get:

My plugin is now dead and I get:
Luup : Failed to download all plugins. Will retry in 10 minutes.

In the log files I get:

I didn't check my logs, but I was getting that LUUP error at the top of my web UI all night.  Probably still going on now.

Same message here, and no weather info - and the weather plug-in files have all disappeared from the list.
