New micasaverde.com Website
« on: March 12, 2013, 09:19:05 am »
Wow, I was surprised to see the new website this morning. I'm interested in the thoughts of the rest of the community.
  • I see an apparent marketing shift.
  • I see tacit endorsements for products and third party apps. The apps aren't even the most popular ones.
  • I see page design issues like not fitting the browser(Firefox) viewport with no horizontal scroll bar. (Smart Home Made Easy section of the front page.)

I wonder if this new site rollout has anything to do with my spotty remote connectivity last night.

I guess these are the packages per the CES announcement (http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/1/prweb10289155.htm).

No word on Vera Plus and Vera Pro yet.
Dezwaved at the moment...

I Too Noticed some of these issues and since I am not fond of change. Especially change that looked like it was poorly done I Ignored and moved on to my tasks.

And the prices are in what currency - the contact details are for Hong Kong, so that would be Hong Kong dollars? Or is that USD, if so that's a bit parochial.

Yes, sloppy design work/testing.

  • micasaverde.com fails or slowly redirects to www.micasaverde.com. Needs a catchall @ DNS record.
  • Firefox Windows & Linux - Mostly works unless the viewport is "too small" then it fails to provide horizontal scroll bar.
  • Google Chrome - Works like Firefox(see above).
  • IE9 - Works like Firefox(see above).
  • IE8 - Totally fails to render in any readable way.
  • Safari(iPad) - Very slow. Works in landscape mode. Portrait mode, like Firefox above, goes off the screen and does not permit horizontal scrolling.
  • Konqueror(LOL) - Fails to render 80% of the page.

www.micasaverde.com/phone  now brings up a 404 Page Not Found error -- this is how I used to access my unit from my iPhone! No warning of changes -- dumb, dumb, dumb decision!

Well, the new website looks good.
It seems they are focusing on functions rather than hardware. The sale of their product is not forgotten, but this is an obviously less "geeky" approach; make sense to me.

HOWEVER
- The website is very slow (on the latest Safari version at east)
- It seems they have a script forcing the Google translate bar at the top (my browser is in French). This is very annoying, I deactivate the bar, but anytime I change page it comes back.

Overall then, seems like a good change.
But it would seem previous comments were right: Micasaverde's speciality definitely isn't website design and coding  ::)

This product is listed as being suitable for the Australian market. A check of the specs indicates it is not suitable. Straight away the company will be looking at returned goods and unhappy customers:
