No activity since 1.5.622?
« on: July 03, 2013, 07:43:47 pm »
So what is the latest beta private or alpha version out there? Seems like quite since 1.5.622 released

This is a fine question. With the outstanding bugs which thwart our developers and the more obvious issues with Vera which the average user experiences one can't help but wonder what MCV had been doing for the past 4 months or so.
My forum account was apparently hacked by a leprechaun. And he's drunk all of the time. If a post of mine seems a little off kilter, it's probably because he made it.

Most likely working on OEM and contract deals.

Maybe, but one can't help but imagine what potential OEM's think when they read the raft of rudimentary install issues experienced by folks in this forum.

At this time, I'm only really using Vera for prototyping concepts.  It's stable enough for that, but certainly not for production use at a house-level scale.... Not without bring a fairly technical/hobbyist consumer.

IMHO, unless its very small scale, Integrators would get a bunch of unexpected integration/stability and support work for a Consumer-level device.

What is the nature of these "OEM and contract deals"?

@ guessed,  if not Vera, then what's making your house sing and dance these days? For the most part I currently have Vera doing what I want, but am always interested in what is working for others and why. I had been planning on cutting bait and jumping ship for HomeSeer but HS3 doesn't seem to be as radical an update as had been hoped.

Here's one of the earlier references to OEM'ing (from 4yrs ago):
    http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Luup_Press_Release#Cross_platform_for_OEM_use

and then there are examples like this:
    http://www.tricktv.com/what-is-tricktv

and the Fibaro HC1, although it looks like they abandoned it when they moved to their HC2 offering.

You'll also see references like this:
    http://www.power-eetimes.com/en/mios-strikes-oem-partnership-with-goap-in-europe.html?cmp_id=7&news_id=222904587

and some of these are listed on:
    http://www.mios.com/author/dkdesignstudio/

Probably needs to be an entire topic of it's own, to keep this to it's original intent, but I'd describe my system more as "stumble and fail" than "sing and dance8)

an alternative description would be a giant remote control for the lights in my home, and not exactly home-automation.  I have the pieces, but the system isn't reliable enough to know it'll work when it's needed (something I'm reminded of daily in it's operation)

For me, it's not running sufficiently hands-off where I'd recommend it to any of my technical friends, let alone family or neighbors.

We can break this discussion out if you want, but I'm actively researching alternatives that are stable, and/or where the dev team wants to engage the community (similar to how MCV was about 3-4.5 yrs ago).

I don't have anything really complex in my system so I have a few stable options right now, covering the basics, and more potential options coming online throughout the remainder of this yr.  There are also enough bits to write something completely custom, which I consider (given the current time investment, that isn't at all far fetched)

@guessed
I for one would be interested in alternatives, this is something I have been looking at myself (not that I have had any luck).

Wow - Sad. I bought Vera as a solution to drive my Yale Real Living ZWave lock and had to get a beta 1.5.622 firmware load back then to make it work. Since then, no activity, still?

Is this thing still maintained anymore?

It's not like it's buried in the ancient sections of the forum either.

I'm just as guilty of being critical and opinionated, but I at least try to do my research first. So I can be an informed grumpy guy  ;D
