Dongle recall program is started
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:46:02 am »
There is a bug in the Z-Wave chips in the black dongle which causes the Z-Wave network to periodically become unreliable.  Nearly all complaints we've receive about reliability of Vera are ultimately caused by this problem.  We have begun a recall program where we are replacing at our expense any defective dongles.  To know if your dongle is defective, go to Vera's setup page, click Devices, and then 'More Z-Wave Options'.  Look at the value for the 'Version' setting.  There will be a number like x.yy, where x is 1 or 2, and yy is the version of your dongle.

If you have version .48 or .51 or .64, then your dongle has this bug and should be replaced.

We will ship you a free replacement dongle with free U.S. first class certified mail by visiting this link: http://shop.micasaverde.com/index.php?main_page=product_free_shipping_info&cPath=110&products_id=216
If you would like another shipping method, such as Priority Mail, which costs $4.95, visit this link: http://shop.micasaverde.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=110&products_id=215

Either way, it will show a charge of $45.  You must complete the checkout process and pay with Google Checkout (not paypal).  Google will place an authorization only, not a charge, to your card.  If we get the old dongle back within 14 days your card will not be charged, or, if you upgraded the shipping, will only be charged for the shipping.

When you insert the new dongle all your Z-Wave devices will disappear, since the Z-Wave network is stored in the dongle.  So first you should backup the data in your old dongle, and restore it in the new dongle.  This way you will not need to rebuild your Z-Wave network or lose any of Vera's settings.  Instructions are found here: http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Clone_Dongle
