How come my VeraLite sometimes won't save changes?
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:53:25 pm »
I have this a LOT. I have 4 VeraLite's. ALl have the latest firmware. I have all of my scenes on the master unit. Often, I will delete a scene, add a scene, or change a scene, and hit save. After is comes back up the changes are gone. Anyone else have this problem? It is getting severely annoying!

Hi,

Can you please submit a trouble ticket with tech support access enabled so we can check it out ?
You can send me a PM with the ticket number once it's submitted and I will look into it asap.

Thanks.

Hi @PJJP

How did it go?
Did you/MCV work out what the issue was?
I'm curious as I seem to be unable to delete devices and/or save any changes to my Veralite now too.

At first I thought it was a free memory issue, so I moved the logging to an external USB, which freed up some more but Vera still refuses to accept any changes..  (Not sure if 2.5mb free is good)

If you (or others) have no idea, I'll raise a ticket too.

Most likely you still have too little memory available. If you only have 2.5MB free, I'm surprised it runs at all!

I had a similar problem recently and solved it by uninstalling some non-essential plugins to free-up enough memory for reliable operation. I had been holding-on for Vera 4 but, patience exhausted, there is a shiny new Vera 3 waiting to be installed.

Hi Rex

The problem is I can't even delete anything now? It's really weird..

I probably have a few plugins I no longer use and so I thought I'd just clear them off, but they just reappear (with the same device ID).

Looking back, I started with a Veralite a couple of years back just to test the water and I'll admit it's creaking, but  rather than going to a Vera3 (like you) I was thinking I'd plump for the bigger bolder Vera 4 (if/when it comes out) - :-)

Latest check on mem below..

Quote
root@MiOS_XXXXXX:~# free -m
                  total         used         free       shared      buffers
Mem:        62480        58768         3712            0         2640
Swap:              0               0               0
Total:        62480        58768         3712

Vera probably cannot find enough space to save the updated user_data file so when restarted, it falls-back to the last one it did manage to save which does not include your changes.

You may be able to break the deadlock by manually deleting some unused plugin files using WinSCP. It would be sensible to copy them to your PC before deleting them in case you need them later.

Agreed, although I might leave that to MCV to do via a support ticket. :)

I wonder what the minimum amount of memory Vera requires just for saving updates ? Any ideas?

Good idea. They will know what they can delete safely.

That's a good question. The user_data.lzo file is not very large (mine is about 75kB) but Vera will need space to save the uncompressed file first and that will be much larger. I had problems whilst SystemMonitor was telling me I had nearly 20MB of free space available so I am nurturing a suspicion that the problem arises when certain areas of memory are running short.

Just to close this post off for the benefit of others reading this in the future - a call was logged with MCVs and they remotely connected to my machine and made some changes and it fixed it.

Please note the changes they did made a few of my plugins stop working (no zwave nodes were affected) so I unfortunately had to delete and/or reinstall a few of them after the support team had left.

I'm comparing this to allowing some messy builders in fix something in my house and then having to tidy up afterwards ;)

I am going to open yet another ticket with support. All they did before was to restore an old backup. I have a couple plugins I really don't need, but I too cannot delete them.
