1.   I don’t have MCV or the monster 200 remote yet, but looking in to getting both.
2.   If I have Vera as the master controller will I be able to use the monster rev 200 remote as well?
3.   I get bit confused when I read articles related to “Master/Secondary” controller – so will both work side by side?

Any input on this is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Jay

So I was going through the Revolution 200 manual, it appears it has several option to transfer data to another controller. So do I need to make Vera master or secondary controller I I have both?

In the Rev 200 manual it says something of this sort...

Controller Swap – Entire REVOLUTION
Destination controller becomes primary remote. Source remote becomes secondary remote.

How do I accomplish this in Vera? Are there any specific steps. Is it possible to put Vera in data receive mode to transfer data from another controller to Vera? Once again thanks for your input.

Update Folks - For anyone interested in monster Rev 200 (The reason I'm posting here is because this report supports Z-Wave, if someone who comes across this and decides to get hold of it just like I did, thinking it would also be a great universal remote).

I Ordered the RV 200 and having several problems.

1.   My TV Mitsubishi WD-73736 is in code database but doesn't work.

2.   The test mode is completely cryptic - What does the remote mean when it says "Test 1 of 1" shows a code and then tells to Press and Hold OK??? What Kind of test Am I supposed to perform?

3.   My Yamaha RX-V565 is in code database but doesn't work.

4.   So I tried to put the remote in learning mode so it can perform power off/on for the TV and Receiver - That is okay - But the learning mode DOES NOT have an option to learn Volume Up/Down functions - or any other learning key except the ones that it shows for the added device

5. So let's say you would settle for spending the time programming each key (as in step 4) - Since you don't have the option to learn the volume keys or channel keys - there is NO WAY to configure this. Completely strange!!!

On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it -1. I haven't tested the Z-wave functions yet, but definitely a poor performer as a universal Remote

Update -monster Revolution 200 remote with Z-wave - Defective Product
« Reply #4 on: September 13, 2011, 08:18:13 pm »
So, I would like to re-iterate this finding. I should have simply returned for a refund, instead thought I'll give it another try in case the one I received first time was a defective unit.

Guess what?
Same Story - It is not even that the remote wont control ANYTHING - But more to it:

1. After the wizard downloads the devices to your remote, it will give you some cryptic messages to press ok to select the code

2. If you still have the patience after that, and call monster cable support, they wouldn't have a clue.

3.  WORST customer service you'll receive.

4 . In the end, the customer service rep will hang up on you without offering any solution.

I just wanted to share my experience so other users are not making the same mistake :)

For a remote, i think youd be much happier with the AVL300.  its an 890 pro clone, and supports acting as a secondary controller.  however, getting it setup to work in unison with the vera can be difficult, but the remote will at least function and provide some nice features for your AV gear.  Ive seen them as low as $68 with the RF-IR blaster box.

If you want solid integration with vera for your A/V devices, you may want to look at the SQ Blaster.  Expensive, but everyone who ends up going this route seems to like them almost as much (or more) as the vera!

I really wish they would come out with a non-puck design that was cheaper.  $200 is pretty steep, even if it is one of the only products of its kind.  Kill the stupid form factor, give me a normal project box (i dont care if its rare mahogany, its hidden for godssake!) and pass on the savings.

im sorry to hear about your experience, but what on earth led you to buy this thing?  i cannot find any favorable reviews, much less information on this thing on the web.

I have 2 AVL300s and although they are working, it is a low quality remote and a huge PITA to get working.

I would recommend SQ Blaster for integration with Vera and SQ Remote to tie everything together.  Only issue is physical remote control as opposed to using iPhone / iPad.

Did you set up the AVL300's prior to 1.1.1245? See also this topic. I did mine before 1.1.1245 and given how much of a joy that was, as well as the report by @iflyM3 I haven't attempted to redo it since .1245.

Yes, set it up before, and really don't use them as I don't like the feel of the remote itself and the buttons, feels very cheap, so I will not likely re-setup.

The 890Pro worked wonderfully before upgrading the Z Wave and Vera Firmware.  I've tried numerous times since the upgrade of the Z Wave firmware, moving on to Vera Firmware .1245, and beyond to get the Logitech Harmony 890Pro (very similar to the AVL300) to work with Vera and it's a no go.  I am stubborn, so i keep trying every now and then.  I have not tried it yet since moving on to 1.1.1338.  One of these days I'll have to get around to trying it again.

I refuse to revert back to the older Z Wave firmware just to integrate the 890Pro, so I'm probably going to break down and eventually go with Square Connect... I just don't like their steep price of 199 beans for the bundle.  I think 119 beans would be more reasonable, I'm not knocking the product in any way I just think the price is a little steep.  If it were around $119 I'd be more inclined to pick up two not just one.

Vera 2 UI5 (1.5.622)... and too many Z-Wave/Ethernet/Wi-Fi devices to list.

Thanks for all your input - I'm in the hunt for the Best Universal remote

1. A/V comes first
2. Next Z-wave

I'm not sure about SQRemote yet - I'm all Android so its not an option for me.

I have two separate AVL300's and Omnilink setups, that are currently NOT integrated with Vera at all.  When I say "separate", I mean I have unique accounts, no equipment crossover, so that neither remote can control the other system's equipment; this was just the simplest way to go about it after multiple setup problems.  I'm considering switching out one setup in favor of the SQ blaster as a test, but the lack of a physical remote does bother me a bit; are there any options here?

I have the same gripes about Monster's cheap feel, poor configuration, and lack of customer service that others are voicing; but everything's working really well at the moment, and I'm not sure I want to make the jump.
