zts-110 - override or total ontrol?
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:16:51 pm »
Hello,

I'm not seeing a lot of info on the newer zts-110 thermostat.  I'm looking for one that will fail back to its program mode if/when the Vera is offline or signal is disrupted.  I have tried to read the manual but don't see anything about a zwave controller failure.

I have one and honestly can't figure out the difference between the 100 and the 110.  I would expect that the thermostat would maintain it's current setpoint if the vera stopped communicating.  It would still control the furnace or A/C around that setpoint,   Might not be the most energy efficient in that mode, but will at least it will still control.

I've never seen or heard such a feature.

I read some horror stories about a zwave controller dying and the hvac turned of until the thermostat was reprogrammed.

My wife is not technical so I want to be sure that a single point of failure doesn't render the house uninhabitable if I am out of town.

As far as the 100 vs 110, i think it is just a bug-fix. Someone on this board had issues with the 100 and was sent a 110 as a warranty replacement. I'm on my phone or I'd find the thread.

I would not expect the mode of the thermostat to change if the vera hung or died.  Now if the unit was turned off, it would stay that way, but I really don't know why any one would do that.  With the thermostat in easy mode, I think she will be able to handle it.
