UI7: Store logs on USB Device not working
« on: August 29, 2014, 09:30:00 pm »
I think I am almost there with the setting up to store USB logs on USB memory stick.

When I enable the store logs on USB, I get all good on the feedback.

Installing required kernel modules and apps... SUCCESS Loading required kernel modules and apps... SUCCESS Please be sure that a USB stick is plugged in. Found USB stick attached as: /dev/sda Repartitioning USB stick... SUCCESS Writing default USB stick config file... SUCCESS The unit will restart in order for the new settings to take effect. Reload the page when you see the Z-Wave light solid again.

But at the end, I only get this.

It looks like its just not getting mounted, did I miss something? or is the next step of being mounded need through SSH.

The current status is  ?Enabled Not Mounted?

I attached the USB memory stick to a Linux machine, I see the ext3 512mb partition that was created, it looks like the process worked, but something must be missing that it doesn't mount it and start storing the logs on the memory stick.

I have the same issue. If I ssh to my Vera Lite I can see that the 512MB partition has been created:

# fdisk -l /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 16.0 GB, 16018046976 bytes
64 heads, 32 sectors/track, 15276 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2048 * 512 = 1048576 bytes

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks  Id System
/dev/sda1   *           1         512      524287+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2             513       15276    15118336  83 Linux

I can mount the partition manually, but, of course, it's gone after a reboot.

# mount /dev/sda1 /tmp/log/cmh
# df
Filesystem           1K-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/root                 4608      4608         0 100% /rom
tmpfs                    31240       940     30300   3% /tmp
tmpfs                      512         0       512   0% /dev
/dev/mtdblock7           11264      7760      3504  69% /overlay
overlayfs:/overlay       11264      7760      3504  69% /
/dev/mtdblock8            6272      6272         0 100% /mios
/dev/sda1               507744     10543    470987   2% /tmp/log/cmh

dmesg doesn't show anything unexpected:

Thought I was the only one with this issue. I gave up on the usb storage after trying 4 usb sticks ranging from 2GB to 4GB and none worked. They all formatted successfully but never mounted properly.

I think what ever is missing is a small piece, I wonder what the message reference to "Writing default USB stick config file" is.

Same problem here.  I was hoping this Vera3 thing was going to be a bit more user friendly and not require extensive Linux knowledge...

If that can help, I used some of the Linux shell magic suggested at the beginning of the following post http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,27032.0.html (except the formatting piece which I did on another system) on my veralite with UI 7 and it worked for me, after some trial and error (sorry but do not remember step by step). Key is to get the fstab file right and just bypass the UI 7 web interface to set it up. Then it showed up properly in the interface after the reboot.
