Upgrading my VeraLite to a Vera3 - any gotchas on Tablet clients?
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:06:40 pm »
Assume i'll have to reset my Imperihome clients to the new login/ip?  Will all my setting stay and work?

It is possible to set up your Vera3 with the same IP as your Vera Lite - you just cannot have them both connected at the same time. I did this and then, once I was happy that V3 was working, I did a factory-reset on the VL and gave it a new IP address (while the V3 was turned off).

My remote Apps did not even notice I had switched controllers.

VeraLite to Vera3 is not so much a problem.

It's when you change UI's that alot will change. What UI are you on now?

Give it a different name, though. Some interfaces use the name rather than the serial number.

BTW: When you restore the backup, your new Vera3 will inherit the root password from your Vera Lite. So if/when you connect with SSH, puTTY, WinSCP, etc, use the old password and ignore the one printed on the V3's label. If you use the same IP address for the V3, WinSCP sessions for the Vera Lite will still connect to the Vera3.

that is VERY Good to know about the root password.  thanks.

For the name... won't giving it a different name then screw up those interfaces?

I haven't seen anything that accesses units through the name. Usually the serial number and/or IP address are used once the device has been set up. It is more a matter of knowing which unit is which during future configuration.

Being terribly novel, mine got named VeraLite and Vera3. Nothing stopped working.

Are we having fun yet, chasing each other round three different threads?  ;D

I never had any patience from childhood. I think that's why I migrated from electronics to software in the early days of computers. Software has much more instant gratification than hardware. It also has its own form of infant mortality accompanied by the plaintive I wish I hadn't done that...
