Ui7 Is it ready for prime time?
« on: October 05, 2014, 10:59:04 am »
I've been resisting upgrading to Ui7 due to various horror stories and negative comments here of stability. I signed up for the beta program but then just never migrated.

Now I and other Ui5 users are locked out due to cp.mios.com issues.

So now my trusty baseline scenario is ravaged I am wondering if I should just move forward to Ui7.

What say you that are on Ui7?

i have 2 units
primetime running ui5

and a second unit i have been using for testing running latest ui7
im still not ready to move to ui7
there are still a few weird odities

in fairness
when ui7rc came out i reported 10 issues and 8 were resolved in this latest release
most of the issues are now cosmetic
like the new dashboard has an option to turn ALL light on/off with one button
however, only dimmers are seen as lights. on/off switches are not counted
they still havent fixed this

Drink the Coolaid... in for a penny... the Devil you know... pick your quote, but we all decided to "get in bed" with Vera warts and all (sorry for all the cuteisms).  You might as well upgrade to UI7 and work through the issues.  Staying behind really isn't an option since you will have UI5 issues already addressed in UI7.

I just tested again. As of this AM, cp.mios.com has been working without any issues for both my Vera 3 units running Ui5. I'm not sure why people are still locked out unless there are multiple instances of cp.mios.com and 1 of them is acting up and causing these issues.

I haven't had any cp.mios.com issues here in California. So it must be.

I did get my Ui5 issue resolved. Not really sure what it was but I am back on line. I can't say if it was an isolated case or more widespread. MCV was a little vague on what caused my account to get "unsynchronized". Anyway back to normal on Ui5.

Now to decide if I take the Ui7 plunge................ :o

Thanks for the suggestions from everyone. I really enjoy this stuff but wish it were a little more stable, a bit more user friendly.

OH my.. that would be disastrous if they assumed that the on/off switches are LIGHTS.    MCV are including the power modules in the On/Off Switches and I have computers and other equipment that I do not want to turn them off in association with lights.     I do that for monitoring purposes, seeing the watts turned up and remote reboot if I need to.
They will have to have a variable or setting in the object in order to determine what type of function it should be.   On/off switches are too general to be assumed to be lights.

Seconded. I have an Aeontec smartswitch on my fridge which lets me know if I leave the fridge or freezer door ajar (indicated by wattage consumed) As well as 2 that switch of my home theater systems during the day to save on parasitic power. The latter 2 would be just an inconvenience, but the 1st one could be a costly disaster if included in an all off...

not all light need to be dimable
some have better use case of being on/off
perhaps the better approach
is that both on/off and dimmer devices
have a variable that designates the device as being a light
you would have to select the option for it to be recognised as a light

I too have virtual devices and such that would be affected by the global light on/off switch. A set variable that allows a user to specify which lights are affected by the global toggle would be a plus.

Unfortunately my German Shepherd puppy realized how to open the fridge. Luckily she didn't explore the contents. But it did cause spoilage. I considered a lock on my fridge but didn't like the look of that. Someone in here has teenagers that also leave the fridge door open and came up with monitoring the wattage used to determine if the door is open (meaning fridge light is on and that uses a set wattage, same as the compressor) and have Vera send an alert. That is where I got the idea. Took less than 30 minutes to record energy usage for compressor off & door closed, compressor on & door closed, door open and door open & compressor on) If any door open combination exceeds 5 minutes, Vera sends me an alert.

On the bright side, puppy girl has gotten older and doesn't play that game as often anymore. That's the price one pays for having German Shepherds in their life as sometimes they are too smart. :)

Richard, if that is what it takes for her to close the door then she is welcome to them.
Now to teach her to open fridge, get a bottle of beer, close door and bring beer to daddy.  :D
