Help me understand Vera security
« on: November 12, 2014, 02:58:32 pm »
So I log into my VL with a private IP.  Drilling into a device and clicking the Logs link prompts me to log into https://home.getvera.com/users/login.  So I do, then click connect (even though I was already in the unit locally) and I'm taken right back to the same private IP.  What am I missing here?

Further, since it appears when I'm remote I can log into the unit without punching holes in my PIX, I'm left to conclude my VL has a VPN tunnel nailed up to MCV or Vera or this weeks name (I'll sniff this out next)  Did I approve that in some EULA I neglected to read?  Even more puzzling is the permission grant button to allow remote support access.  So is that their way of nailing up the tunnel yet denying them remote access to jack around in my VL?

The "Secure your Vera" box is yet another option I don't fully understand.  Is there a magic document I can't find that explains this stuff in detail?  Certainly security deserves detailed documentation.

Here's where I'm going with this.  My PIX allows me to VPN into my home from anywhere so I don't need my VL doing the reverse.  Is there a .sh script I can run to kill this tunnelling out or a simple UI7 option I've missed?

Thanks

Start here: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=4782.0

Then check out some other discussions in that same subforum. You'll find most of your answers there.
