ADT Pulse system defeated
« on: November 28, 2014, 11:07:43 pm »
There was a piece on GMA where a person was able to jam a door sensor by send out a particular frequency.  Didn't get the details, but I seem to remember that Pulse might be using z-wave and we could have the same issue.  Security is not a big issue where I live, but just would like to have discussion if this has not already been covered.

I believe ADT Pulse does use Zwave for it's automation part but the security side is said to still use 433MHz for eg wireless sensors etc.

This doesn't apply only to ADT Pulse. Any wireless security system can be jammed. You can buy wireless jammers for certain frequencies and you can even buy jammers where you can adjust the frequencies on the fly.

With that said the alarm system manufacturers have accounted for that. Starting from a specific year (don't know the exact date) certain alarm systems have a feature which tracks your sensors and you can specify how the alarm system will react to a connectivity issue to that or more devices. Most common use cases are that if a certain number of devices fail within a certain amount of time, the alarm will go off. If only one device fails, nothing happens.

The bad news is that certain alarm systems have this feature per default in OFF mode.

Yes,

I use Qolsys and they do have an option for jamming notification.
As Pseudomizer mentioned this feature comes defaulted off, I wonder what are the benefits/reasons for the default off decision.

I think I turned my option on once I recognized it.
