Cyber-Rain Sprinkler System
« on: December 19, 2008, 06:24:37 pm »
Has anyone heard of Cyber-Rain (http://www.cyber-rain.com)?  Unfortunately, it's not z-wave compatible (it uses 802.15.4), but it would be nice if Vera can emulate what their software does.  According to their site, sprinklers turn on/off based on weather conditions in your area -- info is pulled off of the internet.

...then again, I can't seem to find any z-wave irrigation controllers (I've seen some X10 ones)... does anyone know of any?

When we get the LUA-based scripting engine built-in, this will be a great add-on.  With the LUA engine, users can add their own plugins and share them.

Any word on what devices might work here?  Have to install a sprinkler zone next week and it would be good to get something that can be controlled by Vera in the future...

I'm getting my irrigation controller this week (still in customs) - so I hope to get it work with Vera quickly.

As for cyber-rain, I'm not sure how hackable it is, but this thing http://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=29&products_id=128 is 802.15.4 and can be connected via RS232 or USB. If they didn't do some explicit protection you might be able to control it with Vera quiet easely.

EDIT: just received the controller :)

I have two Cyber-Rain sprinkler controllers, and I'm pretty happy with them. The whole point of their system is that you don't need to intervene at all once they're set up. It would still be nice to monitor (and even control) the system remotely, and they say they're working on a web interface that will do this.

CMRancho, what you're after makes complete sense.  After all, with much of the nation affected by periodic droughts, surely one day Vera will be able to respond to "Please conserve water!" requests from municipal or regional authorities ... in much the same way Vera can now react to similar "Flex Alerts" in California.

It would be cool if Vera could throttle back the Cyber-Rain sprinkler controllers under the appropriate circumstances, then later return them to normal operation.

New here, but I just got my Cyber-Rain Cloud version... Is there a way for my Vera2 to be able to hook up to this puppy? Any help would be great.

Thanx

Using the Lua scripting, can we get deep into the Z-Wave protocol to, for example, control the Intermatic MultiWave?
