There are several Zigbee devices on the market that either don't have zwave equivalents or the Zigbee devices are just cheaper.

And as already noted, almost every controller that has debuted in the last couple of years has had multi-protocol support.

  It looks like the Vera Edge will be z-wave only. That's really unfortunate and as already noted, almost every controller that has debuted in the last couple of years has had multi-protocol support.

there us a Wink plugin for Vera that will then control your devices connected to the Wink, no need for Zigbee support on Vera.
