virtual devices or flags...
« on: February 21, 2010, 06:40:49 pm »
Sorry for my ignorance- but i really dont know where the line gets drawn between backend and UI- totally confuses me  :-[      in my ignorant head the backend does everything and the UI just presents things in a purdy manner , but seems i'm not exactly understanding how vera works.

So I'm not sure if this is a UI request or a backend request.

seems more than a few folks use virtual devices as flags (daytime, ping sensor, home/away, etc). in UI2 you have to use lua to deal with those.

but apparently in UI3 there is the ability to use the ui without lua to use these.

if it is a UI thing, can we get that in the roadmap for UI4 at some point?

Background in thise thread- and the post that confuses me about if it's the UI that handles it or not:
We're releasing a new UI next week (hopefully) which addresses these issues by allowing devs to create new device icons and controls in xml/json files which get populated in the UI.  This includes the ability to add your devices into the scene structure.
