OK, makes more sense.

However, it's apparently not the code itself which is broken, but something to do with Vera.

You don't have any of the new 'security' features blocking what you're trying to do?

I gave up upgrading UI7 ages ago.  What I have works, and it's been downhill ever since for the firmware, so I can't really advise.
3x Vera Lite-UI5/Edge-UI7, 25x Fibaro, 23x TKB, 9x MiniMote, 2x NorthQ Power, 2x Netatmo, 1x Foscam FI9831P, 9x Philips Hue,
Razberry, MySensors Arduino, HomeWave, AltUI, AltHue, DataYours, Grafana, openLuup, ZWay, ZeroBrane Studio.

I don't believe I use any of the new security features.  The 3 security options under security are all unchecked.
It is a Vera Plus with the newest firmware.

If a simple piece of Lua code doesn't work in the Vera UI test widow, then it sounds like a job for support?

1) what s exactly your setup and version. can you share whats written in the footer of ALTUI page
2) can you type "return true" in the test lua window and tell the result

1.)
Code: [Select]
AltUI v2.32.2439, ? 2018 amg0,50001244, *1.7.4001*, ***, Illinois, United States User: ***3 , Unregistered Version / 2.)
Code: [Select]
Success
Code sent successfully.

Maybe I will open a ticket with support

every thing seems to work from a test lua / ALTUI point of view.
to be sure, can you try now this test code and tell the result

Code: [Select]
local a = 3
print(a)
return true

Running that code snippet I also get:

I can only suppose, then, that the code which hasn't worked is something you cut and pasted and there is something strange about the line endings (CRLF rather than LF?)

If these basics are working then it must be something like it.  I can't see a syntax error and, indeed, the AltAppStore shouldn't have an error.  It has certainly worked for others!

Hmm, I have one theory.  I previously had the Alt Store installed at one point.  I removed it a while back because I was having issues downloading apps through the store.  Would trying to run this script with the old files probably still on the Vera, but not being used cause an issue?

If it doesn't run at all, then I don't think that it could be the issue.  If it generated an error message during the run, then perhaps, yes.
