$4 Arduino Scene Controller using MySensors
« on: September 16, 2015, 03:27:59 pm »
Hey Everyone,

I posted this over on the MySensors site but thought I'd post it here too (if you haven't heard of MySensors, it's an awesome plugin for Vera where you can build you own cheap custom sensors).  I built a $4 Arduino remote (scene controller) that can execute 8 different scenes.

I strive to automate my home as much as possible so it doesn't need any special involvement from me or my family to function but there are some instances where it's nice to have a button to push in order to make things happen.  For example, I use this controller next to my bed to perform tasks like turning on/off the lights or fan.  It's nice to have a tactile button to push when it's dark and I can't see anything.  If you're interested in building one yourself here is the link to the video:  https://youtu.be/KMGj5Bi7vL0

Thank you for the idea, I will build one too! But using an esp8266 like https://www.adafruit.com/products/2471 while more expensive, would greatly simplify the project.

Great.  I have been wanting to use an ESP too but I don't think it's fully compatible with MySensors yet.  When it is I will start using them for simple projects like this.

Why not do simple http calls from lua or arduino to the vera ip when a button is pressed? Add a virtual switch and do scenes based on that or use the url to start a scene manually. I think this is the simplest thing you can do.

The MySensors provides a uniform gateway for getting information into Vera ... Not just a Scene Controller!

Yep, exactly.  I have many different devices made with MySensors. Motion sensors, door/window contacts, rain gauge, irrigation controller, on/off lamp modules etc.  All for very little money but lots of fun.  Check out mysensors.org if you're interested.

Of course without PLEG this wouldn't be nearly as automated.  Thanks Richard!
