Android comes up with app generator so even 6-graders could create (as part of a beta-test) pretty cool apps.
I think the amount of apps is going to skyrocket very soon. I hooooope...

Everything I ever thought of an more I could find in the Android apps. The only thing I want in a Android phone now is UMA (Calls over Wifi). I have to keep my Blackberry for that because I have no signal at home.

Couldn't be simpler: SipDroid sipdroid.org
works with both 3G and WiFi

I was wondering how things are going now with the puck released.
Google TV is right around the corner it could be very interesting as a control platform for us.  It is after all just an Android OS.  Are you guys still interested in Android and are you considering it for Google TV as well?

I am personally very interested in Android... Especially since my AT&T service in my home has steadly got worse... even with a nano-cell installed. I've really been watching it mature.

I think TV and Tablets are both great areas for Android.

We are working away at this and I am hoping to see something soon. The biggest issue we see is the variation in platform and performance across the available devices, and I have been hoping to to see some clear market leaders in each of the form factors. For a control application, how it interacts with the network/wifi and data modem is very key - even on the iOS we end up testing on 7 different devices and OS combination's and have discovered each combination of hardware and os version has it's own wrinkles and networking behaviors. It has been commented on these forums that our app is generally very responsive in comparison, for example, to the web browser control. Part of that is our attention to how the underlying networking works. Another example would be the 'feature' Apple introduced a few revisions back of Bluetooth and Wifi interacting in a very strange way. We have got that fixed... and I can tell you several very large brands out there haven't solved that one yet.

Given our interest in controlling AV equipment, it is even more critical to getting the interaction as good as we can.. which leads to the effort of doing this on many more platforms on Android.

Our fear is if we try and support too many platforms and devices too soon, we will end up with a mediocre experience on all instead of a great experience on one.

We have had a few attempts in the last year, none were deemed good enough to even alpha.. but we are hoping the new crop of Android devices will fare much better... and we will see. John has banned me from giving out dates, on the basis that I am an eternal optimist. I am not even allowed to give a hint. But I am excited... and looking forward to a new Phone service.

Aim for Verizon Moto Droids on Android 2.2.1 .. this is the latest release plus all Motos have the same UI.   Yes new phones with Dual Core will be coming out in the next few months on Android 2.3 but  what is coded for todays Single Core is supposed to be compatible.

Would be best to pick the top couple phones from each carrier to test on, I have sprint and the top two android phones right now seem to be the HTC Evo and Samsung Epic. Both seemed very similar to me when playing with them, but i'm sure there are differences from a programming standpoint. On verizon the Droid line is the primary androids phones. I'm not sure about the other carriers, but it would make sense to pick 1 or 2 from each carrier and start with that.

P.s. I signed up on squareconnect.com forums for the beta, and am willing to test it on my Evo. Been using it on my iPod touch for awhile now and really like it, but would like it on my phone.

Hello everyone,

I just signed up as a Mi Casa Verde dealer and new to this forum. My background is heavily in computers and networking. I have been a service manager for Sprint for over 7 years now. I carry an HTC EVO myself, but have access to any Sprint handset. So, I wouldn't mind doing some beta testing.
