Philips Hue
« on: December 15, 2015, 10:38:52 am »
Preface: I've not tested this myself, but I thought it might be important to the numerous Philips Hue uses on this forum.

A recent TechDirt article reports that a firmware update to the Philips Hue system breaks compatibility with third-party bulbs. If you're using the Philips Hue to control other bulbs, like the GE Link and other ZigBee bulbs, you may want to investigate before allowing any Hue updates.

I was planning on getting some hue bulbs then ran across this, myself.

I pulled the trigger on some Milight bulbs instead. I haven't gotten them integrated with Vera yet, but I'll get to it eventually.

I can confirm this to be the case. :( My hub updated before I had a chance to pair 2 GE-Link bulbs. Which no longer are found by the hub. As I noticed the bottom of the GE-Link's gets piping hot after a while I'm not too upset about it as I am apprehensive about using them due to that. I haven't been able to find out this heat is normal or my bulbs are defective.

Don't worry, Philips are working on reversal of the upgrade right now.
