Z-Wave Outdoor Temp Sensor
« on: August 12, 2016, 08:13:06 am »
Can someone direct me to a reliable Z-Wave outdoor temp sensor that can go down to -20 degrees or greater?
Thanks,

You can just use the Weather Underground plugin ... chances are there is a personal weather station close by. If you really want local weather ... add a weather station ... and the Weather Underground can access alll of the data from your personal weather station.

3rded. Someone less than a mile away has a personal WU connected station which the plugin feeds off. It's pretty much spot on with my outside thermometer. So no need for me to install one ;) On all my minimote's a button fires a scene that causes Sonos tell me the current weather using the saytheweather plugin.

I have a solar powered weather station that wirelessly sends info to a raspberry pi that uploads data to wunderground, and use the wundergound plugin to see it on Vera. You could also use mysensors with a ds18b20 (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-1pcs-DS18B20-Stainless-steel-package-1-meters-waterproof-DS18b20-temperature-probe-temperature-sensor-18B20/2036115885.html - Usable temperature range: -55 to 125?C (-67?F to +257?F)) - but bit of a learning curve to do that. I use https://www.mysensors.org/ and ds18b20 stainless steel waterproof probes to monitor my fridge/freezer temps though.

Another option would be to get a fibaro door sensor, put that on the front or back door or a window, that you can also hook up a ds18b20 to (http://www.fibaro.com/files/instrukcje/eng/DoorWindowSensor%20FGK-101-107%20ENG_v21-v23.pdf). Can have the sensor up to 30m away.
Home Automation veteran. Rolled own, then MisterHouse and X10, now Vera - mysensor arduino and ESP8266 network - zwave lights, locks, switches - milights - yeelights - google home(s) - Broadlink RM - raspberry pi(s) with various scripts for power and weather station - Logitech Harmony - Imperihome

You could also use the Fibaro window door zwave sensor and attach the DS18b20 external temp probe.  I just ordered both the sensor and probe and will try this when they arrive.
