What ever happened with the ZWave Air vents/registers
« on: September 14, 2016, 10:59:19 am »
I'm looking at room-by-room temperature control and I was wondering what ever happened to the ZWave Air Vent/Registers that splashed about a year or so ago. I don't see much on a general Internet search and the one that does who up, EcoNet, appears to be moribund.

Econet was really the only I knew about and have installed in my home.  truth is, in the end, I didn't do much with these.  a couple were kind of buggy, and I got lazy when it came to writing the automation I needed to go along with my Ecobee.

that said, the website seems fine, and they are still selling on SmartHome.

@tomgru, no, they don't sell the original vent version anymore - it kind of disappeared from everywhere about a year ago and everyone was told a new version is coming. If you try to click on the link you provided, it says "EV200 is coming soon", but that's been the state for quite a long time... You can't find the old EV100 anywhere either.
Veras (1, 2, 3, Lite, Plus), lots of different Z-Wave modules, Luup plugins and theater/security integration.

I've found a different brand on Amazon that but it seems to use Zigbee. From the reviews it seems people were able to write a smartapp for it on SmartThings so I wonder if a plugin could be written for the VeraPlus to make it work there.

I wanted the econet ones way back but they did not make them in the sizes I needed. These do but are far more expensive.

Wow....

Interesting you can still buy the valve control (including Amazon).  Did anyone try emailing them?

This looks really interesting as well... 'when' it ships.  Nice integration with Ecobee. https://flair.co/

Maybe a product liability problem ... If you use these on all of your registers ...

If your registers all close (because your Vera is not working) in the Summer, but the AC comes on ... without adequate air flow, the evaporator will freeze up and can return liquid refrigerant back to the compressor ... compressing liquid will destroy the valves in the compressor.

could be... I never put them everywhere for that exact reason.  only in a few rooms ... that said, they never seemed to be super reliable to me, so they mostly go unused.
