SQ Remote v2.0 Released with UI4 support
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:58:14 am »
SQ Remote v2.0 has been approved by Apple and released to the App Store. By the time that you read this it should be available to download. If it isn’t there, then please try back after a few hours.

What is different and new in v2.0

Full support for UI4 and the myMiOS service (cp.mios.com). It also continues to support UI2 and UI3 (selected firmware releases only). So if you have a remote unit that you have not upgraded, or do not want to upgrade, SQ Remote will continue to work for you. In addition, legacy support for the findVera service is also included in this version.

It goes without saying that as before, SQ Remote will work with multiple MiOS / Vera systems.

There have been several small improvements and additions to the functionality of SQ Remote with MiOS

Addition of sensor labels for Doors, Windows, Smoke, and Motion detectors
Backup and Share now includes all MiOS settings (except passwords).

General Features

Switch off “sleep” - prevents your remote control going to sleep if its “open”. This option is available in the Settings area of your iPhone.
A help section with detailed step by step guides to getting set up.
Left or right orientation (landscape) is now supported.
Launch page - takes new users to the help page to get them started with SQ Remote Plus many other small enhancements and defect fixes.

SQ Blaster Integration
The largest changes to SQ Remote have been the additional functionality preparing SQ Remote for the release of the SQ Blaster, a Wi-Fi to infrared control system that will allow you to seamlessly control your entertainment/media devices (TV etc.) together with your MiOS/Vera controlled devices.

It includes:
Auto discovery of SQ Blaster units
In app infrared code library predefined control panels for infrared equipment control with simple linking to IR code learning of infrared codes (through the SQ Blaster) .
Dedicated SQ Blaster and Entertainment Devices section in setup.
Macros - to trigger multiple commands including MiOS scenes.
Backup and Share also includes full back up of all SQ Blaster settings, infrared code sets etc.
and much more...

More information on the SQ Blaster will be available soon on the Square Connect website.

Finally: New Pricing

We have reduced the price of the MiOS full feature set to $29.99 (or local currency equivalent) with this release.

Also, if you use SQ Remote with an SQ Blaster system it will unlock the MiOS full feature set, so if you get a blaster unit, you also get all the MiOS features for free!

This will not upgrade from the Beta version - as the released version has a different App ID. Please make sure you have backed up all your settings to box.net from the beta version and then restore to the released v2.0.

You will have to re-enter your password for the cp.mios.com (myMiOS) service.

if you are remote (i.e. not on your home network), you will need to set the option: Always connect remotely to ON... This is in the MiOS System Settings.

if you are still having a problem, please open a support ticket on our website

Don't get me wrong, I love saving money and always regret missing an opportunity to do so, but the way I see it is that SQ Remote is totally worth the $50.  I can get a Vera for much cheaper than what I paid too, but again I feel like it is really worth what I paid.

One way to help with the sting of paying a little more is to get more devices to put SQ Remote on.  I have two iTouches each with the same installation of SQ Remote, so actually I spent $25 on each, and the more devices I put it on the cheaper it gets per device.

As far as Z-Wave control points go, SQ Remote is the best bang for the buck even at $100 or more, but I agree missing it by weeks can be frustrating.

@Shady, totally agree!

@FIST, thats the price you pay for being an early adopter of anything when there is no competition. Dont forget that since the initial SQ release, we now also have iVera!

If its any consolation, I actually got given a copy for helping with testing, but for one reason or another ended up paying $50 bucks (thanks to apple) and happily ate up the cost due the quality of the app, the amount of work the developers did and the fact without it my wife wouldn't have accepted any of this.

I just bought the app a few days ago. Having the price now at 30 is nice, but really upsets me that they reduced it in a matter of a few days of purchase. I'll have to email them seeing if they can refund me the difference.

After the upgrade I still couldn't connect remotely so I submitted a trouble ticket. Their response solved the problem for me:

[regarding the error message] The zero following "Unable to Connect to Vera" is the HTTP Status Code which indicates that the MiOS server did not respond within the specified timeout period.  This timeout period is specified in the Edit MiOS Settings Screen as Remote Timeout (seconds).  By default, this is set to 30 seconds.  I recommend that you increase this to 60 seconds.

I changed the setting to 60 seconds and now I have remote access. Once again, SQ Remote rocks!

I wrote them an email in response to their price drop. They wrote me back with in a half hour of the email. I am very happy with their response. Hopefully the puck will be coming out soon! I had asked thdm for for a refund of the difference or credit towards the puck.

Has any pricing been announced for the puck?  I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the app, but if the price of the puck is reasonable I may wait for its release and save the $30. Will owners of the app get a credit toward the purchase price of the puck if they buy the app first?

Just a note toward trying to save a few bucks, like Strangely mentioned in his post I too was on the Beta test team and worked hard with him and others to try to get the App ready for public use, both of us were offered free versions of the App (but Apple didn't allow App gifting at the time) for our help with the Beta.  The gift didn't work out, so we both paid full price $50 for the App, gladly.  Rather than try to get the money in other ways, we opted along with other Beta testers to support the company with the purchase.  For the amount of work at has been put out by SQ Connect and MCV, they haven't recieved a matching amount of income.  While this is expected of a startup, I think you have to ask yourself is it worth me saving $20-30 or is it better to support companies who are bringing high-end solutions to us regular people at an affordable price.  These comments are from one of the most frugal men on the planet.
