Vera2-Jasco/GE45601-Trane Thermostat
« on: September 19, 2010, 07:45:00 pm »
Primary Controller = Vera2
Secondary = Jasco/GE45601 Remote

Trane TZEMT400AB32MA

Can I set-up the Jasco/GE45601 remote to see and adjust the thermostat as a secondary controller?

Thanks,
Darrell

should be able to. you should also be able to use the remote to include other non secure devices.

1. paired Vera2 with the thermostat
2. paired the remote as a secondary to Vera
3. Added events to scenes to interface Vera2 with the remote.
4. Added lights by pairing the remote directly to the individual switches

How do I pair the remote to the thermostat?
The thermostat seems to only let one device pair to it. When I go into the thermostat setting the only option is to unpair.

Thanks,
Darrell

Bump.....

Just got a GE 45601 and  I too am looking to have it talk to my Trane tstat.  Same thing.. the trane only talks to one controller.  So does anyone know how to pair the 45601 remote to vera and control the trane?  Or should I just be happy to control lights with this beastie?

Yeah... I have not heard a word.. so I have a nice remote that runs my lights but not my Trane.  Was hoping someone out there would see this and say 'oh.. thats easy....'.  Yeah I know.. my droid will talk to the thermostat, but thats not the point.

One idea is to set up scenes, which can be controlled from the Trane for up a degree, down a degree, change mode, etc.  You could then assign the scenes to the remote.  Not as elegant as integration, but would give you some control with the remote.

The scene idea would work, but for one problem.  The GE remotes have to create their own scenes, as they can't pull any of the Vera scenes down to the remote.  You actually have to go to the device, add it to a scene and then adjust the brightness level (or on/off setting) for each device (within 30 seconds and it will record it).  If you want to control your Trane, you have to manually set that up within the remote, but if the Trane is being controlled by Vera, the remote will always FAIL during the setup for that device.

It has to be a limitation of the thermostat.

Okay...I give up on my original request... Will just use HomeBuddy on my Droid if I am too lazy to change the thermostat...  ;D

Check the firmware on the 45601 Remote - is it running the 5.02 firmware? When I was out at CES2011 - Jasco was demoing a new remote the will handle 6 thermostats and 6 locks   8)

Bump.. Need to do the same thing - also, am I understanding correctly, that after I pair the remote to the Vera, I have to setup the lights on the remote directly?

You can just pair the GE remote and the Trane as if you were including it with the GE as a primary controller and it will work.

One thermostat per remote. Multiple remotes per thermostat.

(So: choose 'Add' in the thermostat setup menu on the GE, and go into ZWave Install on the Trane and ignore it saying it will be removed, just hit 'Yes'. (A Z-Wave device is told by the controller whether it is being included or excluded, it doesn't exclude itself.))

Okay... maybe I am not tracking...

If I pair the GE and the Trane, then how does the trane talk to Vera?  Through the GE remote?  Just seems
that I would lose something here...

OK; the starting point is having Vera as the primary controller and your remote being a secondary controller, as mentioned by the OP.

Vera will then be able to talk to your Trane.

If you also want to talk to it from a secondary controller, you'll have to associate (which is the same steps as 'including' if it were the primary controller, but you're not really including) the secondary controller and your Trane. Just like you would for any other devices that you would also like to control from your remote.

You're basically just associating, or call it programming, or tying, the NodeID of the device to a key on your remote. The NodeID and the HomeID were programmed into the Trane by Vera (because it did the inclusion into the network as a primary controller).

Both Vera and your remote can then talk to your Trane.

BTW, if you have a Trane associated with your GE remote in this fashion and you want to associate it with a different Trane, just add it to the remote the same way. It will overwrite the association with the previous Trane. Do not do a delete first, as that, unexpectedly, actually wipes out (i.e. HomeID and NodeID) your Trane.

Unfortunatley, from the looks of the announcement, it's a new remote control, and the older one may not be firmware upgradeable...  the new one sais it can handle 4 door locks, and 4 thermostats.  see the PDF announcement attached, page 9
