New Z-wave chip will have encryption
« on: September 24, 2010, 08:39:23 am »
I'm about to take the plunge and invest in Z-wave technology for my home, but had been concerned about weak security regarding Z-wave. Given the new chip (sometime in 2011), it looks like that has been taking care off.

The z-wave alliance website has a news item that a new version (4th generation) of the z-wave chip is to be shipped to device-manufacturers in 2011, the '400 series'.

I had some contact with the sales director at QEES (Danish device manufacturer) who was kind enough to explain to me some of the differences between the current Z-wave chip (310-series) and the new 400-serie:

It has a lot of technical feature changes, which are not visible to the user in terms of functionality, but overall you can say that it is cost-optimized, has more capacity (can handle more devices) and has an encryption feature"
