Totally clueless
« on: November 01, 2017, 06:04:09 pm »
I bought a vera lite about 2 years ago and set up a lock on it for a rental property. I would like to add a thermostat and an outdoor camera with motion detection on it.

I have no idea what i need to buy and how to set it up once i get the devices. I also need to extend my zwave range a bit. Can i buy an outlet and install it in the middle of my rental to extend it out further toward the lock. i get a lot of errors due to the lock being right at the end of my range.

Thank you

Yes, adding an outlet, wall switch, or a plug in device will extend your zwave signal range.

The thermostat is probably easy, as long as you have a standard heatpump/ac/furnace type setup. I would get a $75 rts-ct101 from Lowe's. They sell it as the "iris" zwave thermostat. Get a coupon and it can be cheaper.  It's a nice 7 day thermostat that plays nice with vera. The AA batteries will last a year or so. And if you have a hot C wire to power the thermostat, it will act as a repeater.
