X10 performance with PLM very, very slow
« on: December 15, 2017, 12:10:03 pm »
I'm doing an install of the Vera to compare it to some other Home Automation systems, and the X10 controls seem to be very, very, very slow.  From GUI click to action execution is at least 5 seconds, sometimes more.

Is this a "known behavior" or is there some way to speed this up.  I can't imagine coming into a room, kicking an Insteon KeyLinc, and having to wait 5 seconds for the light to actually come on.

In checking the logs, it looks like the daemon inside of the Vera box is getting data that it doesn't understand from the PLM and then putting in a 5-second wait.  This may be where the delay is coming from.  Here is the log:

I gave up on integrating anything from PLM to Vera.

Soon I'll be selling my Fanlincs, PLM and Insteon Hub on eBay.

FWIW When I was running both Z-Wave and my legacy X10 kit (using the X10 CM11 plugin), the response time for X10 was pretty much indistinguishable between the two. Having said that though, my X10 kit was getting old and some were starting to fail probably due to capacitors going to bit heaven, plus I had suspicions that the plugin may have been contributing to some stability issues with the Vera (suspected memory loss leading to lockups requiring reboots). If all else fails, try rebooting everything and make sure your starting with a clean system. If all else fails, you can always try to hunt down a CM11 or equivalent if that will work with what you have, and give that a go.

My only Insteon device, a garage door controller working for 4 years, stopped working last week so I got rid of it and went with a z-wave solution. About a year ago, the PLM went out which I needed to have the relay communicate with Vera. So I am no longer on Insteon.
Vera 3, UI7 1.7.1017, CT101 t-stat, Everspring motion detector, GE/Jasco switch, Leviton outlet, AeonLabs door sensor, NuTone garage door, Blue Iris, Sricam SP011, iPhone locator, APCUPSD, VeraMate, VeraAlerts, PLEG, House Modes, Countdown Timer, DVR, Virtual & Multi Switch, Weather, Sys. Mon.
