Integrating Monster Central AV Remotes & equipment
« on: November 09, 2011, 08:01:02 am »
I'm getting close to the point where my AV stuff is configured how I want it.  I have two Monster AVL300 remotes, and two Monster Omnilinks (which are essentially Logitech Harmony RF Extenders).  In the past few days, I tried adding Z-wave lights to my Monster AV network, and it worked fine; my bedroom light & fan are now "paired" with my Monster remote in the bedroom.  Great...  but predictably, this removed the light & fan from Vera.

I would like a way to connect & control the Omnilinks from Vera, and then use the remotes to send commands through Vera to the AV equipment.  Can it be done?  (I read this thread, but there's no info there) I understand that the AVL300 remotes can be used as a secondary Z-wave controller, but perhaps there is some problem with the latest firmware (from reading this thread).

Looking for some help with this.

I had 2 AVL300s working with Vera, but ended up ditching them.  Although they were working, they were horrible remotes.  Sorry I know this is not helpful, but I got them working by re-setting them up multiple times, effectively doing the same thing over and over until they worked.  Most annoying thing was that they need to be set up and updated together for any change.  My advice, get the SQ Blaster, works great.

I'll think about it...  I just switched over to an iPhone.  If it works with both my Vera 2 and my AV equipment, it could be what I'm looking for.

In thinking about this more, I don't think the SQ Blaster will work any better than my dual AVL300 and dual Omnilink setup, in that the SQ blaster won't be something I can control from Vera, either.

I'd really just like to be able to control the Omnilink from Vera 2.  I know it's supposed to be possible, but I haven't gotten comfortable enough to mess with what I've got.  It's all working more or less how I'd like it to, otherwise.

New Plugin for SQ Blaster should allow control from Vera, but not out yet and I have not tested it so I cannot say it will definitely work.

I would love to know that for certain.

The existing blaster plugin has worked for a long while at sending commands from Vera to the Blaster, admittedly  it can take a bit of work to create an IR plugin in Vera to work in tandem with the SQ Blaster or USB-UIRT, but easy once you've learned how!
