New user - thermostat scene question
« on: June 16, 2011, 12:55:32 pm »
I've just configured my Vera 2 for use with two CA8900 thermostats, and so far everything's going pretty well.  Next, I'll be adding a Kwikset lock and eventually some light switches.  Coming from X10, I'm pleased to see everything work right the first time, more or less.

My first question is this--I have a scene that sets my thermostats to cool about an hour before I arrive home, and then sets them at an "away" setpoint when I'm at work.  These both operate on weekday timers, and they work perfectly.  I have another scene called "vacation" which I plan to activate when I'll be away for a few days.  How do I set that scene such that it overrides my "away" and "return home" scenes?

Thanks--I'm looking forward to learning more about MCV...

I have heard people using a binary switch (virtual device) that when switched ON controls your normal scenes. When set to OFF it can control other scenes basically enabling you to control which set of scenes triggers your thermostat when.

I think I understand the suggestion; I've used virtual switches in X10-world.  However, looking through the add/remove devices menu in UI4, I don't see any way to add a virtual switch.

Yep. This is one of those that should be documented thoroughly somewhere highly visible. You can check out this thread http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=6567.0.
It's geared for winter time use but much of the information you need is in there.
My forum account was apparently hacked by a leprechaun. And he's drunk all of the time. If a post of mine seems a little off kilter, it's probably because he made it.

Thanks!  This needs a sticky...  I searched first, but didn't come up with it.

ETA: I really need to learn LUUP!

I have two state devices installed and working based on reading the thread referenced above...  "Away Mode" and "Guest Mode" are both state devices which mask scenes which set temperature based on weekday timers.
