Z-Wave failed to start
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:22:20 pm »
I have upgraded to 1.1.1245  from 1.1.992 (worked great).  Now I am trying to add a node but VERA2 says “Z-Wave failed to start" after I start vera.  I Have tried tapping the back zwave button but it does not work? I Cannot add Zwave devices and I have tried every option under zwave> advance options and under advance > backup but I get "command failed" Doing a  factory reset brings me to the same problem.
How can I add Zwave devices? Before upgrade all was working with older vera version. I have a backup of vera but not mios. I have submitted a support ticket but not received a response.

I had the same issue recently with 1245, are you using 3.20 or 2.78?

One trick you can try when you see the message is to click the "Save" button top right dashboard, it will restart the engine without you going through the entire bootup procedure. It does not work every time but does most of the time.

JOD.
I'm sorry, my responses are limited. You must ask the right questions.

Please refer to this thread:

Most probably your settings for Vera are not correctly updated and Vera has a wrong ROLE configuration.
That is fixable!

I have downgraded my vera 2 to Version  1.1.1062 and now my zwave nodes all work.

I use to login with findvera and have tried mios login but neither of them work affecting my SQ remote. My other Vera 2 works with mios login that I purchased that two weeks ago loaded with the Latest Version 1.1.1245.

Henk, thanks and I am going try some fo the things on that link.

Here are some of my settings(1.1.1062):
Version
1.78 L:1

House/Node Role
Suc SIS:YES PRI:YES

Last update
N/A

Last dongle backup

@icvdo,

As @JOD asked, did you upgrade the Z-Wave firmware to 3.20, or are you using 2.78?
Can you post the settings while on 1.1.1245 (like you did for 1.1.1062)?
Dezwaved at the moment...

Another problem I discovered was that vera2 was not able to register with the serial number? I submitted a support ticket and successfully flashed the firmware to 1.1.1062 with the unit registered (mios). Everything on Vera2 worked and I was able to get SQ remote to work with the system again.

I then upgrade to 1245. After a healing, I was able to control my nodes and access them from following get SQ remote.
I then tried to upgrade to 3.20 following the instructions “Update the z-wave firmware using the "Hack to convert 2.78 to 3.20" option” but this failed.

Re” Update the z-wave firmware using the "Hack to convert 2.78 to 3.20" option”
Yes I did.

Here is what my unit shows:
Version   2.78 L:1
House/Node
Role   Suc SIS:YES PRI:YES
Last update   N/A
Last dongle backup   N/A
Port

By default MiOS should automatically configure devices

Use Z-Wave version 3.20 instead of 2.78 IMPORTANT: Read this first

Use MiOS routing instead of Z-Wave (requires 4.5)

Limit neighbors to Z-Wave discovery (requries MiOS routing)

 Poll nodes learn more
