Trane changing modes on its own?
« on: July 26, 2011, 01:18:31 pm »
Got a weird one.    Trane thermostat at my cabin has now switched modes twice in the last month from cool to heat with no one there.

The first time this happened I let it go as one of those strange occurrences.  However it happened again last night.  (Have phone set to page me when thermostat mode changes as I like to make sure guests aren't playing with temperature too much).   I jumped on web interface and sure enough it was set to heat
(not that the heat was running in this nasty weather, but when not there, I set it to cool at about 85 so the place doesn't cook.  Most days it never runs at that setting.

I know no one was there either time as the door lock log shows nothing, motion sensors never tripped. However mode changed from cooling to heating.   I do have one time scenes set to fire for future check in/ check out but none were scheduled (calendar events were previous) these do change thermostat but I don't suspect them since they had fired weeks ago and I had not reset them for future use.

Is there anything I can set so that if it happens again, I can see what called for the mode change (e.g. button push at thermostat, scene event, or web event).  At least I could narrow it down to flaky thermostat or whatever.

Did the log file (LuaUPnP.log) provide any hints?

crap... only has 2 hours worth of logs...

any kind of extra things I could set to capture thermostat events elsewhere?

Otherwise will hope I am near a computer next time this happens so I can jump on and copy logs down.

This is a vera2 running ui2 1.0.994  (I will upgrade to UI4 once a stable version is announced AND i have a couple days at the place to upgrade and be around in case things go bad.)

I wonder if MCV Support can send you the relevant log (assuming you're having them uploaded to MCV).

Is it possible the Internet went down and Vera lost track of day and time for a bit?

JOD.
I'm sorry, my responses are limited. You must ask the right questions.

@JOD, vera and internet are on UPS, so unlikely.
@Oti@, Its been set to send logs to the mothership since it was installed.

Okay, happened again early this morning... (log file is attached below)

got two texts within minutes of each other.  I have attached a log file.  I never paid a lot of attention to details in this log, but is it always full of 'errors'?   The big question is,, why does Vera think that the thermostat is turned off and then on?   Last week it was a mode change from cool to heat.  This
time it was 'off' then 'cool'.    I know no one is at the place as I also have an old APS environmental monitor there 'pre vera days'.  No doors opened or motion since 27 July

The only thing that is showing up as odd is I have and hrds1 that has been showing a false indication for some time now.  Not sure if its an alignment problem or the device.  Had someone check to make sure that the door was actually shut when it started acting up. Will check that when I get down there.
