Dashboard

Double J:
I'm new to UI4 as I've ignored it for the last year until findvera.com went down this weekend and bit the bullet for the upgrade. Although, I'm happy with certain functionality I think they took a horrible step backwards with the dashboard.

I believe(as it was with findvera.com) it should be solely for devices...scenes...essentially the functionality for the purpose of the system itself. It's too cluttered and contains all the stuff no one cares about once you have your network set up properly and simply want to use it. A car dashboard shows you what you need to control it and buries the rest underneath. MiOS's simply does not.

I've forced myself to 3rd party vendors to appease my wife and daughters with their iPhones & iPods since MiOS's smartphone interface is half as useful as findvera's and too fearful of myself to allow my daughters on that interface. It also sets me back thinking I'm close to marketing this to my a/v customers for my business. I'm hoping, at the least, to find a pc interface that's useable as our centrally located pc touchscreen has lost it's appeal as well.

Essentially, this is simply a plea to try and make a 'dummy-friendly' interface that young and old, male and female alike can use with confidence and not be confused by all the techie stuff that most of you reading this enjoys digging into. A clean, simple interface will make more people embrace it than be afraid of it. Hopefully, we can see this in a UI5 and beyond.

UI5 will have what you are looking for. Unfortunately there is no set release date.

Do you use the iphone interface?

Double J:
Yes, I use the iPhone interface. My gripes are:

1. The slider controls do not work. Findvera at least gave you % buttons. Now we're limited to on/off. We never use our lights at full power since Vera.

2. You have full access to 'under the hood' controls. With 3 daughters who use their iPods it makes me nervous. The dashboard is a remote control to me and should be only that.

Although, it led me to purchase SQ Remote in which I love it's sleek interface and customization that Vera never offered. I will try iVera and others as well just to see what they're about. But...with 3rd parties come additional problems and more trouble-shooting when something goes wrong and people are easy to place the blame on Vera itself rather than the interface they're working with.

I am a custom A/V, automation integrator here in Houston.  I have used everything from HAI, to RTI, to C4 for automaition, even used Convergent Living...anyways, I was thinking of using Android tablets running HomeBuddy or Ipads running SQRemote with inwall docks with limited user access accounts for control throughout businesses and homes, similar to the C4 touchscreens.  I do like the UI5 interface, but my worry is that there is a lot of clutter for some end-users.
