Wireless IP Camera stream to iVera iOS device?
« on: December 17, 2011, 11:05:25 pm »
Looking at the "Mi Casa Verde Indoor Wireless IP Camera" (http://www.zwaveproducts.com/Zwave-Security/Zwave-Security-Cameras/Mi-Casa-Verde-Indoor-Wireless-IP-Camera.html) I am guaranteed integration with Vera but what kind of integration I wonder?

Could, for example, I easily use this camera to stream imagery to my iPod Touch or even iPad?

I basically just want to turn on my iPad and see what's going on from the camera's point of view, or perhaps see on a bus (away from home) what's going on via my iPod Touch.. now what is the likely how hard or easy is that going to be?

I don't have experience with the MCV camera, but I'm sure if MCV sells it, it will work fine.

I have several Panasonic BL-C230A cameras and a couple of new Foscam FI8918W cameras (http://foscam.us/products/foscam-fi8918w-wireless-ip-camera-11.html).  Both work well with Vera 2 and with iVera for the iPad/iTouch/iPhone.  You won't see video, but you will see the still picture refreshed about every other second.  Both cameras are steerable (the Foscam seems to work better than the Panasonics).

The advantage to buying the MCV Indoor camera is that it comes pre-configured to work right-out-of-the box (but it is not steerable).  With all other cameras, you will have to scan the forum to find instructions on how to install them properly.

Just FYI,  I have not had great luck ordering from Zwaveproducts.com (search the forums for details).

Thanks for the info. Well it was kind of what I wanted; live streaming data to an iOS device, not just the desktop - live streaming to say the browser MIOS software which? Perhaps the vendor should make an iOS app themselves, but that would be a hassle too, surely iVera intends on an update to remedy this?

Live Video streaming is not a limitation of iVera. It is more a limitation on MCV's side. To pull video from the camera, vera pulls it directly from the camera on the internal network. In order for the apps to have access to the live stream, the camera would have to be opened up on the firewall for remote access. MCV's is supposedly working on a way to tunnel the camera.

See http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Remote_Camera_Streaming

This is not fully implemented yet. So it will not work.

But of course they're working on it, well that'll probably be implemented by the time I get one.

@ hunjkins

You need to understand what "working on it" means to MCV. Please scan the forum. MCV is working on many things but often there is not the positive, timely, results that you hoping for.

Remote streaming works, with limitations, on Vera2. It's possible to pull up the streams as a webview in SQ Remote, for example.
