Title: Vera Concierge Smart Home
Post by: jepjr on January 23, 2018, 03:51:14 pm

Attempting to add "Vera Concierge Smart Home"

After adding device and Selecting User Account in Google Home App, "Linking your Vera Concierge Smart Home account".  A quick message at the bottom of the screen states "Couldn't update the settings, check your network connection."

If I look under "Explore" in the "Google Home" add,  both "Vera Concierge Smart Home" and "Vera Concierge" show that they are linked

Each time I ask Google to turn on a particular light, the response is "It looks like those lights haven't been setup yet", sends me back to Google Home.  Google Home states "Link smart home devices", when I click "LINK DEVICES NOW", it puts me back into "Home control", if I click the + to add, I'm right back where I started.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
John

Hi Richard,

Yes.  VC is working.  It's the new feature with "Vera Concierge Smart Home" that im having issues with.

If ask Vera Concierge to turn off a light, that works,  if I ask google to shut off the same light, that does not.

Richard,

Do these commands work with smart home? Cant seem to get this string to respond properly from my google device.

Please <on, turn on, set on, off, turn off, set off, flip, toggle> <all, every, each> switch in the <Room Names or Aliases>

Google defines the supported syntax for things under the "Home Control" menu that the Vera Concierge Smart Home app interfaces with.

I have not found a good definition of all the commands ... the following is from google ... and I know it is not complete!

https://support.google.com/googlehome/answer/7073578?hl=en

You can provide ALIASES for your device using the "Configuration" page on the Local concierge server.

Does that mean I need to set my rooms up in the Google home app as well?

Hi Richard,

Now that Google has removed  "Vera Concierge" and I still cannot get your new feature "Vera Concierge Smart Home" to work, I'm completely down.

If ask Vera Concierge to turn off a light, that works,  if I ask Google to shut off the same light, that does not.

Ay ideas?

When I used the home control app listed under Home control (the new one google approved) versus using explore to use Vera... all things stopped working.
Now I did do a firmware update to my Vera Lite, so I'm not sure what happened but now nothing works.

When I unlinked and tried to link back up, only the google released VC app is listed under Home Control., but I thought that doesn't work or should not be even listed.
I'm a little confused as to what should be going on.

My Concierge server all works and sees my google home, mini and chrome cast. It seems I can not link VERA under the app as it uses only the home control app 3.0

Without using aliases !!!!
There are two Voice Interfaces:
      1) Google Home -> Home Control
Where devices are added using Vera Concierge Smart Home
OK Google Turn on the Office Light

      2) Google Home  ->  Vera Concierge Assistant
OK Google Ask Vera Concierge to turn on the Office Light

The (2) one is down right now (all because they did not like an Icon I used) and  I am in the process of getting it re-instated.

Hmmm, I have linked and unlinked option one and still doesn't work.  I did a firmware upgrade to the latest on my Vera Lite. I had to factory reset and restore from backup since there was a limitation on storage. I must have done something. My start LUA shows correctly as require Vera Concierge and Concierge Server lua file is there as well.

Another thing I noticed.. the Concierge server web page under software does not list any software any longer. Is this supposed to be this way now?

Any hint as to what I'm missing here?

Thanks!

Ok.. I've tried everything ... I removed Concierge server from my nix box... redid it again. unliked everything .. linked it back up.. all tests say connectivity.
linked and unlinked from google app and from your portal. Always says sorry I can't help with that.. I'm lost as to what to do next...besides drive over the thing with my car!

This was all working before I updated to latest firmware and that newer app came out. I know others are working fine... just not here. your little app works on my phone I can talk to it fine.

When you say you see "All my devices under "Home Control" ready to be added to rooms", what devices are we talking about?  All I see is my Google Home unit, my 4 Google Home Minis and my Google Chromecast.  It doesn't show my Smart Switch (http://www.smarthome.com.au/aeotec-z-wave-plug-in-smart-switch-6.html) which I can control using the Vera (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vera.android&hl=en) app.
Title: Re: Vera Concierge Smart Home
Post by: MadMax1412 on February 24, 2018, 02:11:04 am
Hi,

Back in early November 2017, I was finally able to get Google Home to turn on my Smart Switch (http://www.smarthome.com.au/aeotec-z-wave-plug-in-smart-switch-6.html) using voice commands.  I had called my smart switch "Popcorn" and had a lamp plugged into it, so in the Google Home app, I created shortcuts as follows:

"Lights Off"  -->>  "Ask Vera Concierge to turn Popcorn off"
"Lights On"  -->>  "Ask Vera Concierge to turn Popcorn on"

This allowed me to say "Hey Google, Lights on" and the lamp would turn on.  The issue was that it would take over 15 seconds for this to happen.

If I used the Vera App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vera.android&hl=en), pressing the "On" or "Off" button would work instantaneously.  Therefore I just used the built in scheduling feature and forgot about using Google Home for voice control until Vera was natively supported (still waiting for that and they - Vera - said by end of Q1 2018).

Anyway, last night I was scrolling through the Google Home App (Menu hamburger --> Home Control --> Plus icon in circle at bottom of screen to get to "Add Devices") and I noticed Vera Concierge Smart Home was listed so I thought perhaps my 15+ second delay might be gone.

I said "Hey Google, Lights on" and I get "Sorry I don't understand".

So I open the Vera Concierge App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rts_services.veraconcierge&hl=en), sign in using my Google account, click "Start Listening" and say "Turn Popcorn On".  The light comes on and it asks "What Else?", so I say "Turn Popcorn Off" and it turns the light off.

So I go back to the Google Home App and the Vera concierge Smart Home option in Home Control which takes me to https://veraconcierge.appspot.com which shows "Select the Vera Concierge Account to be used by Google to control your Vera Connected Devices.  I click on "Select Account" which then asks me to choose an account and I choose my Google Gmail account.

It goes back to the Google Home app and shows a dialogue box saying "Linking your Vera Concierge Smart Home account" and the spinning circle.  Shortly after that, a message comes up at the bottom of the screen saying "Couldn't update the setting. Check your connection."

Troubleshooting:

On my mobile:
If I go to Google Home --> Explore --> Search for "Vera", it brings up "Vera Concierge Smart Home" with the icon being a tall green man next to a house.

If I scroll down, the Account Status shows Account Linked with an "Unlink" in bold next to it.

I have tried unlinking and relinking and it appears to have done so, yet it still doesn't work.

Does the wording in my shortcuts which did once work (eg "Ask Vera Concierge to turn Popcorn on") need to be re-worded, or is there some other issue that's out of my control?

From what I can understand from this thread (http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,55161.0.html), is that back in November 2017 when I had it working, the app under "Home Control" in the Google Home App was called "Vera Concierge", and that this has been removed and replaced with "Vera Concierge Smart Home".  Is this the reason it's not working?

I have the exact scenario, it was all working until that app Vera Concierge Smart Home was introduced and I installed it. I have been a month trying to figure out why.

Deleted my ConciergeServer and set it back up again..  reset Google Home.. linked and unlinked several times in the app on my phone and on the webpage veraconciege.appspot.com without success. The only thing I did that perhaps you may not have was to update the firmware on my Veralite to the latest.

All connectivity shows as working on the Concierge Server.. google devices are all listed as you can see in my screenshot. I guess I just have to wait for Vera people to get it integrated into google home.
I have no option to restore the original Vera Concierge app as it was, all I am able to see is the newer app Vera Concierge Smart Home.

Scenes, dimmers, switches, and thermostats are available via the the "HOME CONTROL" part of Goggles Home.

Just go to "Home Control"

Then ADD (+)
THen select Vera Control Smart Home.
All of the above devices should be ready.

The
OK GOOGLE TALK TO VERA CONCIERGE
has been pulled by Google and I have been fighting with them to get through their testing ... there testers do not have a clue!

Firstly, just to confirm we are talking about exactly the same thing (you may have different things since you are a developer/tester), on my Google Home app, it's called Vera Concierge Smart Home, not Vera Control Smart Home

Secondly, this is where we then have an issue. You seem to imply we can see devices eg dimmers, but at this point when I select Vera Concierge Smart Home, it takes me to a page asking me to select an account to link. I select my GMail account and it tries to link but fails. See error message wording in my previous post.

I gather that seeing our devices such as switches etc would only occur if that connection part completed successfully but it's not getting past that point.

I suspect my issue ATM lays with Google Assistant but I am unable to get any actual help from Google so I want to check here first.
Since trying to add the vera smarthome app to assistant I have 9 copies of each room in Assistant and I am unable to delete any of them, is there any chance the issue could have something to do with this Vera app? Because every suggestion I have tried to delete the extra rooms does not work (in the Google home Android app, trying to delete a room I get "couldn't update setting, check connection")

Hi Richard,

This is simply not true. As with everyone else, when I try to add the Vera Concierge Smart Home device to my Google Home I get the same error: "Couldn't update the setting. Check your connection." It pops up on the screen for one second and goes away. And there are no Vera devices on my Google Home Control from the Vera. I have a Veralite with the latest UI5 firmware.

BTW, connectivity is fine. Google Home sees the SmartThings hub on the same network and it used to work fine with the HaBridge software before Philips changed the linking of their device to Google Home.

Title: Re: Vera Concierge Smart Home

As I stated earlier in this thread.  I believe this is a Google Home issue.  I unlinked "Vera Concierge Smart Home" from "Google Home", uninstalled "Google Home", installed "Google Home", linked "Vera Concierge Smart Home", now I see all my devices under "Home Control" ready to be added to rooms.

I have close to 200 devices on my Vera 3 UI5.  After creating rooms and placing the devices I wanted into those rooms, I tried to save, Google Home kept coming up with the "Couldn't update the setting. Check your connection." message.  Every time it did that, it duplicated the rooms I created.  It was a mess.  I repeated unlink, removed all duplicate rooms, uninstall, install, then re-link, then created one room at a time with the devices I wanted in that room, saving before moving on to the next room.  I still have 166 devices not in any room.

I have not seen the "Couldn't update the setting. Check your connection." message since and everything is working nicely including scenes...

Hope this helps.

Are you getting the "Successful bi-directional connectivity" confirmation when you click "connectivity" under Vera devices on the VC Local server?

When I first set up Vera Concierge back in November 2017, it was working and I had voice control - although it took 15+ seconds for the light to come on or turn off.

Due to that delay, I stopped trying to use Google Home to control the switch via voice control and just used the scheduling available in the Vera app.

I asked Vera via their Facebook when will it become available within the Google Home app like Samsung's SmartThings and was told they had a team working on it and expect it in the first quarter.

That's why I recently looked at Google Home --> Home Control --> the plus icon in bottom corner and saw Vera Concierge Smart Home and though it might work.  So I said to Google Home "Hey Google, Lights on" as that's the shortcut that worked back in November.  It's command is "Ask Vera Concierge to turn Popcorn on" (Popcorn being the name of the smart switch I bought).  It responds "My apologies, I don't understand".

On my mobile, if I open the Vera Concierge app and click "Start Listening", I can say "Turn Popcorn On" and the light comes on within a few seconds.  Ditto with turning off.  If I go to https://veraconcierge.appspot.com/web/Account and click on "My Account" on top right and then click the "Connectivity" button I get a pop up window saying "Successfull (sic) connectivity to your Vera and to the local Concierge server".

There is a message at the top of the screen which says "Google has temporarily removed the Concierge Agent!" but for the non-technical people like myself, I don't understand/know what that means (what the impact to our user experience is).

If Google has removed the Concierge Agent, why is Vera Concierge Smart Homes still showing under the Google Home App --> Home Control --> + Icon ??

I have done all of that and I still get the "Couldn't update the setting. Check your connection." message and therefore the only thing that shows under "Home Control" (Devices tab) in the app is my Google Home and my 4 Google Home Mini's and my Chromecast.  I can't see the Smart Switch (http://www.smarthome.com.au/aeotec-z-wave-plug-in-smart-switch-6.html).

As I mentioned in my reply just above, if I go to my PC and go to https://veraconcierge.appspot.com/web/Account, there's a heading that reads "Google has temporarily removed the Concierge Agent!" but I don't know what that implies.  Does it mean the Google Home App won't be able to connect to the Vera Concierge Smart Home link and populate my devices?  If so, why is the option still listed under the search?

3)   Select Vera Concierge Smart Home
4)   Link using the Google account you used with the Vera Concierge Cloud server.

Hello All

I thought I'd chime in here as I am having a connectivity issue between Google Home and Vera Concierge Smart Home.  Whenever I try to link the accounts it gets through to the account linked page and then about 4 seconds later it says "oops something went wrong, please try again"   I've tried it on 3 different devices (ios) and no luck.   I've tried uninstalling Google Home and reinstalling and the account still won't link.  My local server is running just fine and it says I've got bi-directional connectivity between Vera and the local server and I've been through the debugging page Richard has posted numerous times and obviously run into problems as soon as I start to try and talk to my Google Mini.   I'm at a loss! Any suggestions?

I ran into this issue today, as well as back in January or February, can't remember when, but around the time I first set it up.  I was adding Vera Concierge to the Google Home app on my Android (Galaxy S8), and it would point me to the login page for Vera Concierge, I'd login, then after it attempted to add it, it would then give me the "Couldn't update the setting. Check your connection" message.  What I did to get it to finally work was to clear my Vera Account in the web interface of Vera Concierge server, perform an update and restart, pushed update to cloud, and force synced.  Then I added my Vera account back to the web interface of the Vera Concierge server, synced, pushed to cloud, force synced and tried again, this time it worked.  I did all the forced sync's to be safe, but they probably weren't needed, but better safe than sorry.

Hope this helps someone, let me know if it does so I know if it actually helped, and not that I just got lucky.

Hi Again,

This issue still persists in the 3rd week of April and nothing has changed since early February? Every time I try to connect I simply get "oops something went wrong, please try again"  I have tried EVERYTHING from this thread and others. I have two Vera's so I tried unlinking our new VeraPlus with 200+ devices so there just one Vera left with only a few devices to keep it simple.   I factory reset and fully updated our old  Vera3 and repurposed so I can voice control my audio receiver with my Broadlink and wanted to be able to unlock the front door with my voice to let friends in.  I thought that Richards solution here gave me this functionality whereas the Alexa integration did not permit locks.  Now I am confused, so Richard, should I be able to unlock my front door with my voice if I am ever able to be successful in setting this up?

I did discover one issue last night that I think only Richard can solve.  I have bidirectional connectivity on both local server and your  veraconciergeappspot page, however, on my local server config page in the column "Last Vera Data Update",  the date is listed as Dec 31st 1969 at 7pm.  I'm going to take a wild crazy guess and say that's not correct. I just don't know how to fix that.  My Vera3 has both concierge files in the locations they are supposed to be and as I mentioned I have been through the troubleshooting so many times I can't keep count and it all works until the account linking stage. I need help!

@Ryanoc75.  Looking on my local server my vera update is current to today's date.   Since yours is not, I am thinking this is a symptom of an underlying problem...duh

I had some issues getting connectivity.  I understand your frustration.  In my case, it is hard to nail down what was causing the issue.  Is it possible that a firewall setting is causing the connectivity test to work but the firewall "rule" that you set up only allows one way connectivity?

Just a wild guess.

When I tried connectivity, I also had to do this through an "incognito" window of my browser.  It just would NOT work using google chrome in its normal format.

Hey Inzax

Thanks for sharing your suggestions, unfortunately for me I have tried all the same as you have.  I get proper bidirectional connectivity but obviously, the data bit isn't reaching the server.  I've turned my firewall on that laptop off completely for now until I'm able to get this thing to work properly.  I've also tried three different browsers and even installed XAMPP which did help me get connectivity initially.

There's obviously an issue and I have spent far, far too much time troubleshooting to keep guessing so I am hoping that Richard happens upon my post and has some pointed suggestions to get me up and running. I've bought licenses for all of his wonderful plugins x2 units so hopefully, he can help restore my sanity easily.

FWIW

Installed vera concierge on a raspberry pi - in my case simply had to create a subdirectory, download the java app into that, and run the app (and once I was sure that it wasn?t causing any issues, I also modified the startup on the ?pi so it always runs). Oh, I also had to add in the local ip address into my hosts file.

I then was able to go to the local web page (https://myraspi:8989/) add in my vera details to access it, and update & restart. Went into ?custom settings? and selected ?ignore all? to all the devices I did *not* want to be able to control. I then associated everything with my google account - using chrome on my macbook from that local web page.

I was then able to control my lights again using my google home(s)! Yay! I had previously been using the ha bridge which had died due to the requirement to now authenticate against the Philips cloud.

Thanks Richard - have registered my copy now!

Then I tried my Broadlink RM Pro. It had stopped working some time ago, but I?d not bothered to do anything about it as I really wanted to control my 315mhz projector screen which my RM Pro version couldn't do. Just to test I reset it to defaults and connected it back onto my network - had issues doing it, but finally managed to do it via my iPad rather than my android ?phones, weird but likely an issue with the app itself. I was then able to learn IR codes via the concierge web interface. I couldn?t learn RF codes, but that is probably because I need to use the ?Sweap frequency? command (yes, ?sweap?) to record the only 433mhz remote (for a fireplace) I have.

I can see that concierge saves the codes in a file called "BroadlinkCommandSets.json" so I then:
Recorded the RF codes in the ?e-Control" app (not ?eWeLink?)
From the app chose ?share? then ?share to other phones in WLAN?
Opened web browser to http://192.168.0.67:48815/
That then downloaded a zip file with a number of files in it, specifically jsonButton, jsonlrCode and jsonSublr.

I am now at the stage of working out how to transfer the codes into Concierge, although I might wait until I arrange to get a new RM Pro that does 315mhz.... ;-)

...and noticed that the file "BroadlinkDevices.json" had "SupportsRF": false -> changed that to true and could then see the "record RF" button. Tried it, but wasn't able to save RF commands. I might stop mucking around now until I get that new RM Pro. ;-)

In Google Home app
1)   Go to "Home Control" menu
2)   Click the "+" at the bottom of the page
3)   Select Vera Concierge Smart Home
4)   Link using the Google account you used with the Vera Concierge Cloud server.

Hi Richard,

First of all thank you for the app, I am trying to get it to work and have the vera concierge working on a computer 24/7 and I have my account linked to my google home account.
1) Downloaded and installed Java and Vera Concierge, they appear to be working as I can go directly yo the vera concierge web page.
2) Went into the Google home app and added Vera Concierge as above and it tells me the account is linked.
I however don't see anything other than the Vera Concierge webpage on my computer (can't see the veras), how do I link the vera to that account or is this automatic?  I do not have a button that tells me to test conductivity. I figure I have missed a setup along the way, can you help?
Thanks

What browser are you using ? Try using Chrome.

At the top of the page:
    https://localhost:8989

You need to enter the Remote Access credentials in order to find your Veras.

Hi Richard,

The issue was with Java, everything the computer restarted I need to restart Java.  I have also purchased a license, how will I receive the code?  I haven't seen anything yet.

Thanks

Hi Richard,

i am currently getting this message.
There was a problem.
Connected to Vera, but secure connection required.

No handler

You probably have a firewall.......

What platform are you running ConciergeServer on ?
On windows it uses nsm (it embeded in the jar file) to restart the Concierge server when the computer restarts.
On OSX, Linux Variants, it uses there native capabilities to restart the Concierge server when the computer restarts.

You need to look at the Debugging thread ... and go through the installation/debugging steps.

Hi Richard,

I am running Windows 10 and I have restarted the computer and concierge.  I have connection with the Google Home however no connection with the Vera.  Confirmed the Google Home by having the text to speech tab, it worked..  The Vera Home Automation Hub is listed but no devices showed up.

Thanks

Hi Richard,

When I check the connectivity on my Vera Plus it doesn't work, I get the message
Can't talk to Local Vera Concierge Server
Check the Connectivity on the Local Concierge Server.

When I check the connectivity on the Vera 3, not the default Vera only my test vera.

I get the following message
Successful connectivity to your Vera and the local concierge.

What am I doing wrong?

I have just done two setups, one with a raspberry pi and one with windows 10 and both are now working perfectly after setup issues.

Ensure that whatever your PC name is on the network that you add it and its ip address in the hosts file. (must be on the same network as vera)
eg.  192.168.0.1     newzwaver-pc
This goes for both raspberry and windows.
Ensure that you are using Google Chrome!! this also goes for raspberry and windows (no other browsers work as some of the buttons required to save cloud data don't appear).

I added the ports used by concierge server in windows firewall just incase.

Hope this helps.

[quote[
I get the following message
Successful connectivity to your Vera and the local concierge
Quote
This means that the Vera Concierge can initiate a conversation with your vera. This means it has the correct account login credentials.
Next the Vera try's to initiate a conversation back to the Vera. NOTE it is NOT replying to the previous request ... it is starting a NEW conversation.
It is failing because your the PC that Vera Concierge is running has a FIREWALL that is blocking the new connection from your Vera.

Have you gone through the DEBUG checklist .... step for step ...
You can also look at the Log file on the Local Concierge Server while you are experiencing problems.

I'm sorry to say that I've given up on Vera. I switched over to Homeseer, it's a bit more to setup, but well worth it. It works better than Vera and seems more stable. It worked with Google home out of the box.
I gave the Vera a few years and it worked ok, but time to move on.

Thanks for the support here!

Hi. On the Vera Concierge download page (http://veraconcierge.com/web/GettingStarted), the following message appears: Google has temporarily removed the Concierge Agent !. If I want to download "Download ConciergeServer.jar", there is an error, see the attachment. I have a paid license since last year. What can I do? THX.

Hi Richard,
I have configured my VeraEdge and registered on Vera Concierge to use with Google Home Mini ... everything works, but I would like to remove the annoying sound when it starts talking with Google Home, is it possible?

Hi Richard,

Thank you for the app, I am trying to get it to work and have a question.
I have installed the local vera Concierge Server on a computer 24/7.
This is working good, it sees my vera devices, also the test button Connectivity gives bi-directional connectivity oke.
When I now push the "Update Vera Concierge Server Cloud Info" it goes to the "http://veraconcierge.com/" page where I signed in with my google account.
Then I push "Update vera information " and "Force Discovery of new/changed Divices and Scenes" but nothing happens.
The tab Associated Vera Controllers stays empty. Any idea?
Thanks for your help in this.

Thanks for your reply, I have already checked the firewall and even turned it off as a test.
Also in the router I have enabled port forwarding for 8989 and 8998, but without result.

Edit: problem was internet explorer edge, after using Chrome "Update Vera Concierge Server Cloud Info" works.
