HomeWave is a Vera remote control app that is designed with the "end user" in mind. That's just a technical term for your dad, your wife, your room mate, or anyone else who does not know or care about Vera, but who has a vested interest in being able to turn on the lights every now and then.
Most iPhone apps for Vera expose you to the full set of Z-wave devices, often in cumbersome lists that are not easy to navigate. In contrast, HomeWave will let you build an interface that looks like a remote control, easy to use, with only the right buttons shown.
Ambition:
- provide a Vera remote control app that is as easy to use as an actual remote control, suitable for people who do not know what Vera or Z-wave is.
- allow the app to run on older Apple hardware and older versions of iOS; second hand iPhones and iPods will make cheap but feature-rich Vera remotes.
To get an idea of what the app looks like, here's a video of HomeWave in action. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FSAsppdqDI), or check out the HomeWave web site (http://homewave.intvelt.com/)
HomeWave will not be free (gotta make a living), but it will be competitively priced compared to other premium Vera apps. The price will be $3.99.
Tentative timeline:
- today: in development:
- 17 July: start of Beta
- 15 Aug: end of beta
- 31 Aug: available in App Store.
-
Great idea. Please let me know how i can help. I build mobile apps as a side gig.
-
Hi,
the Video is in Germany not available !
-
Hm, might have something to do with the background music I added... Youtube was clever enough to detect the song and performing orchestra, and set some restrictions based on what rights they paid for (I noticed that it can't be viewed on mobile platforms either). I'll see if I can post a version without audio.
-
Hello
Wow, that looked cool. 8)
17.July, does that mean I can download a Beta from appstore tomorrow?
Regards
TommyE
-
This already looks amazing!!!
Cant wait to test the app for you!

Hi intveltr
I like the idea/concept and I'd love to look at the video.
Are you able to upload it again?
-
I reposted the video without any soundtrack; hopefully this one is available everywhere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdFr6Zi3NJ0
-
Wow, finanly could watch it, great app, exactly what is needed, simple with good config options. Just make an option for multiple pages.
Also consider doing an android version, since now a cheap 7" tablet is 80usd, it can serv as permanent wall switch displaying configurable info. It is cheaper then some premium dumb switches

Will you be able to transfer, import/export, the configuration to other iOS devices so I can share it with my wife's phone?
Thanks
-
Looks cool.
I missed the beta sign up, but I'd love to help out. I'll be local to Vera for a few days, then remote access for a week, then local again.
-

That is certainly the plan, though this feature will not make it into the first release. The idea is that configurations of individual screens or the complete config can be saved to or loaded from files. There will also be an option for an automatic over-the-air transfer of configurations, so that Z-wave installers can maintain the configs for their clients and push out new ones when necessary.

Unfortunately I can't sign up more beta testers; Apple limits the number of testers to which I can send apps outside the App store process.
-
Great work! Looks cool and I can see paying $3.99 for it.
Couple questions:
1. Will it have support for video feeds?
2. Will it be avialable in English?

I would certainly pay more for this (but only if I get my background color changing option :P).
1: You can already see your video feeds from your cams.
2: The current beta is in English

$3.99? I would certainly pay more for this [...]
Don't give the dev any ideas... ;D $3.99 is just right; right?
The price will most likely be $3.99.
-
This looks like it will be a great app. Looking forward to the release.
-
The app has been very handy.
-
I like that it's configurable and looks very human friendly. :)
-
Hurry up and take my money!
-
HomeWave will be submitted to the App store today! There are a few outstanding minor issues but they will be fixed in subsequent releases. Barring any major bugs being found, or issues during the review process, the app will probably hit the store in 2 weeks. :)
The website is up as well on: http://homewave.intvelt.com/ It just needs a few videos, to be added as soon as I get the chance to record them.
-
Please announce when it's available!
Using SQRemote now. Ready to try this! Definitely like the apps that are configurable.
-
WOW. THE BEST APP SO FAR! PERIOD!!
-
Very nice!
The only issue I encountered was with a thermostat. I was trying to set heating and cooling set-points, but it wouldn't accept the settings. The settings were correct, but it just said "Off" for all of them. I quit out of the app and back in, and it worked.
-
Gave it 4 stars on the app store. I'll change it to 5 when it's been refined a bit more.
I'm a bit confused about accessing my Vera. It didn't ask for a password. So I'm guessing the only security I have is my WiFi password? I have yet to try outside the house. How does it log into mios?
Issues:
- Making mistakes is painful. If I screw up the grid or arrange something I didn't like in one spot, I can't re-arrange/move it. There needs to be a better way to move a control. Probably cut/paste would work fine.
If you screw up the grid, even if you put it back, you're stuck and either have to close the app to avoid saving, or simply have to remove the group and start over. :(
- You should be able to add controls (and folders) to the home screen.
Beats other apps HANDS DOWN:
It works with all the other plugins! Combination Plug-in doesn't work with other apps, but does with this one! Makes my garage door act as one switch/sensor. Awesome!
-
Oh yeah, I have to agree with the other guy. A really really great (and possibly simple feature) would be to allow custom backgrounds. Let the user specify a photo! So I could add a photo for each screen that represented the room it controlled! Subsequent design suggestion, add a drop shadow layer behind the controls so bright or dark photos don't make the controls disappear. ;)
-

Correct: anyone on your LAN can access your Vera.
The app connects to MIOS using your username/password for this service; these can be entered in the app settings.

Moving controls is possible: touch and hold for a few moments, then drag it to its new location.
What do you mean exactly by screwing up the grid?
Perhaps an undo button would help make things easier?

Adding a bit to the thermostat issue.....
I can't seem to select "Normal" on the Trane thermostat when it is in "Energy" mode. When I hit "Normal," the "Normal" turns grey for a bit, them "Energy" turns back to blue. Going from "Normal" to "Energy" doesn't work either.
I see the following in the log:08 09/01/12 23:56:08.009 JobHandler_LuaUPnP::HandleActionRequest device: 46 service: urn:upnp-org:serviceId:HVAC_UserOperatingMode1 action: SetEnergyModeTarget <0x1b829>

If I change via Vera dashboard, HomeWave is updated nearly instantly.
Looking at the log when I do it via the Dashboard, I see this in the log:

Notice that Vera uses "NewModeTarget=Normal" but HomeWave uses "NewEnergyModeTarget=Normal" to set the state.

Thanks for the logs, that'll be a big help in fixing this issue. Is the Trane thermostat supported by Vera out of the box, or does it require a plugin? I have only been able to test plugin / virtual thermostats, and it did work on those. (The only real z-wave thermostats we have here are heating only)
-
The Trane is supported out of the box, no plugins required.
-
Awesome app - thanks for the great work.
I am looking forward to the ability to save configurations in something like box.net or dropbox.
Other nice features would be:
- Have the ability to change properties like colour in multiple devices at once rather than doing each one individually.
- For the Trane thermostat add support for the Fan & Energy Save settings.
- For battery powered sensors add support for the current battery level.
-
The next version will support saving configurations (or a single screen) into Dropbox, and into the app's Documents folder (accessible via iTunes). A battery level indicator is planned.
Support for changing properties in multiple devices at once should be possible; I will add it to the list (though it's probably not going to make it into the next few releases).
-
Changed my rating to 5 stars. :)
Love this app. The best.
-
Looking very promissing, sofar.
I would like to have my gasmeter displayed (like powermeters).
Could that be added to the wishlist? Thanks!
-
Support for gas meters or smart meters is planned. What kind of gas meter do you have, and how is it interfacing with Vera?
-
Just bought mine, very nice :D
-
Oops, I posted in the development thread. Here...
Searching for HomeWave will turn it up in the app store :)
Found it, and based on the YouTube video, I purchased it. I've been using iVera (full) for probably over a year. I'll let you know which one I end up using more often...
I have some questions, but I'll read this thread in its entirety first.
-
I'm working outside of my LAN, so I can't configure HomeWave. I guess that's my biggest issue for the moment.
I can see where buying this for my wife's iTunes account & installing on her iPhone would be good. I guess I should have done that first to test it out & compare.
EDIT (again): From the description in iTunes - "HomeWave will work on your LAN as well as remotely via the MIOS gateway service."
OK... I'll just have to play with this when I get home. I see the tutorials are available at http://homewave.intvelt.com/.
-
I've arrived at home. HomeWave detected Vera; 'wifi' icon is no longer red. I'm walking through the steps:
Begin editing it by clicking the Setup button (the spanner) . The Control Panel will change from a back background to a set of blue squares with crosses in them; these represent empty spaces where you can place control elements. check
Tap the top-left blue square to select it (it turns grey). check
Tap the Add button check
A window appears with various Z-wave control elements. Choose the On/Off Switch (if our Z-wave setup has no switches, choose another control element) negative
I just get a screen that shows the text, top-to-bottom:
Cancel----------OK
Control Properties
Caption [control screen]
Store / Share / Load
Save Control panel
Load Control Panel
Thoughts?
-
Ah yes. The screen hierarchy is not always immediately clear, which is why I am considering to automatically add a screen and some Vera controls, the first time HomeWave runs. Also, the tutorial needs a video :) Anyway...
If you try adding a control and you end up with the list you mention (a list of properties, amongst which is one for caption 'control screen'), this means you are on the 'home screen'. The Home screen is where you add buttons to launch other screens. On that screen, just hit OK, then click save. You will end up with a square button called 'control screen'. (you can change its name later, using the spanner button)
Click the square button. You'll get a new blank screen. On this screen you will be able to add lights, sensors and other stuff from your Vera.
-
Yes - that helps.
Things I notice so far:
From the Home screen, I set up a control called "Living Room." I realized that's not what I wanted to do, so I deleted it. The "Living Room" screen remains as an orphan, and even though I can't get to it from the Home Screen, I can still flip to it.
Thermostats are in Celsius only. I have min/max set on my thermostats, and warnings set up via Prowl, so I can't control the thermostats without setting off warnings (because I can't set the thermostat above 69 deg C). When I set the thermostats to 73 deg F in MIOS web interface, HomeWave shows 75 deg C. If I touch HomeWave, I get warnings from Prowl, and...
When warnings (or other ALERTS, vs. "badges" or "banners" on the iPhone) come in, HomeWave shoots back to the Home screen. That's a pain if you're in the middle of something & an email comes in.
If I try to select an area with a "1x2" block with two "1x1" blocks next to it, I can't. I have to first split the 1x2.
If I add a "No control" empty space or label, I can't format it. No size, color, background, etc.
It seems to take about 5 seconds from the time I send a command via the MIOS web interface on my computer until it updates in HomeWave. Not good, not bad.
It'd be nice to be able to change the format (colors, vertical alignment) of the elements on the Home Screen as you can on the other screens.
-
Nice to get comprehensive feedback like this :)

Sounds like a bug. If you exit the app completely and then open it again, the deleted screen should be gone from the swipe rotation.

Open your iPhone's settings screen, and scroll down. You'll find HomeWave amongst the apps listed here. This is where the app preferences live, and where you can set the temperature unit to Fahrenheit.

That is per design. Someone else mentioned this, and in principle the app should allow you to select an area of mixed sized controls, as long as the selected area is rectangular. This is on the list to change.
If I add a "No control" empty space or label, I can't format it. No size, color, background, etc.
Correct, you can only set the label text. The upcoming v1.2 release will have some more options for formatting controls.

That is the nature of apps like these. Changes are not instantly pushed to the app, instead, Vera is polled every 5 to 10 secs to report changes.

No problem, like I said, not good, not bad. It's probably comparable to iVera.

Coming in v1.2 :)
Great! Looking forward to it. On iPad, as well, I read elsewhere...
-
Another thing - add an element in one of the sub-screens by selecting the "+" button, and then you change your mind & hit "cancel". It adds a new, undefined element anyway.
-
After a few days, I realize I haven't used iVera at all. I like having the ability to put all of the commonly-used scenes AND devices on one screen. It's working well.
My door lock commands don't work, whether I select Disable, Enable, Ask, or PIN. I can send commands from MiOS and they work. The status reports correctly on both MiOS and HomeWave. Here's what happens on HomeWave, with "Enabled"
- Front door is locked, and status shows locked.
- Press front door, text changes to unlocked, ring/text changes to grey (but door remains locked)
- After a few seconds, status reverts to locked, ring back to locked color
If I select Ask, it does the same, but gives me the dialog box first.
If I select PIN... well, I don't know what it's doing:
- Front door is locked, and status shows locked.
- Press front door, text changes to unlocked, ring/text changes to grey--it doesn't ask for a PIN!
- It remains grey. I can hit it again & it toggles status each time, but physical door lock status never changes.
-
Not sure what the deal is with these locks... they work for some, but others have reported issues with them as well. Can you try the following URL please?
http://192.168.2.13:3480/data_request?output_format=json&id=lu_action&DeviceNum=57&serviceId=urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:DoorLock1&action=SetTarget&newTargetValue=1
Replace 192.168.2.13 with the IP address of your own Vera, and DeviceNum=57 with the device ID of one of your locks. This command should lock it.
I did notice that for some reason, locks were created with user interaction disabled (will be fixed in 1.2). The PIN dialog only appears if you set a PIN for the app (press the "i" button on the Home screen to do this)
-

Ah, I set the PIN, and now that feature works.
I will try the URL above when I'm local.
-
One other thing - I have an exterior light that occasionally doesn't respond to commands due to how far it is from Vera; now is one of those times.
If I try to shut it off from HomeWave, it goes grey, then reports off (blue). And it stays off. However, in MiOS, it shows an error code 1. HomeWave probably should show something other than a successful command/status change in this case.
-
Re. issues with locks: the bug that causes newly added locks to be "interaction disabled" also causes them to not send out anything to Vera even when they are set to "enabled" and clicked. Workaround: re-link the lock controls in HomeWave to your locks in Vera. Version 1.2 will fix this without the need to re-link.
Re. responding to Z-wave transmission errors: HomeWave currently doesn't do this. Added for a future version.
-
Thanks! I'll try again when I'm at home.
-
Please, get support to Z-Extender 300 from Remotec, is cheaper and good quality.
-
Bought HomeWave last night and installed it on my iPad, and am loving it! I'm planning to put the iPad on the wall at some point and this would be the perfect 'control panel' screen for it.
-
Love this app!!! Great Job!!!
The home page should have an option to choose control panel or switch/scene. I see that I can only config the home screen for control panels.
Also looking for more colors and icons.
Now my mind is busy configuring :-))
Thanks for this great app.
-
Wow,
This app is great. Was sceptical at first, but I love the design, and how simple it is. Finally something that is WAF approved. (wife acceptance factor).
Good work :D

I'll second that too! ... And the WAF effect.
So simple to set up and use.
Would like to see battery status available, but I see that's on the plan.
Don't make it too fancy,
"Less is more".
Only problem I have found is that my rooms all get shown as "Downstairs" sometimes, but revert to correct names once I restart the app.

"Less is more".
I like how bells and whistles can be enabled/disabled.
Only problem I have found is that my rooms all get shown as "Downstairs" sometimes, but revert to correct names once I restart the app.
Yeah, I've seen that too. Didn't find a good recipe to reproduce it. Haven't seen it with v1.2 yet (but did try to look for it, by cruising through the rooms for a while).
-
If the problem with the room names occur, can it be fixed by clicking the "Refresh list" button?
HomeWave keeps a list of rooms, devices etc so it doesn't have to poll Vera for them every time. Perhaps it loses track of the rooms for some reason an shows a default label (downstairs)
-
Okay well, I love my homewave, but I've switched to Windows Phone.
Currently using an app called "Grasshopper" which allows you to have devices/scenes on the home screen.
Homewave is still the best app for Vera period. Wish you would port it. :)
-
Hi,
I have a problem with v1.2 with all my security sensors.
I can't anymore "lock the control". If i go into edit mode and select a motion sensor anc click the setup button and choose "Disabled" then press "Ok" and "Save". It won't be disabled. It means that if i click on it, it will arm or bypass it.
If i go back in edit mode i see that the button is "Enabled" and it never save my "Disabled" change.
This was working fine with v1.1 and it seems broken in v1.2.
Is there someone else with the same problem ?
-
I'm seeing the same; I'll look into it
-
Hi
I’ve been really happy with this App and it’s taken over as my favourite. I'm really liking all the customisation in version 1.2. All of a sudden it has stopped working remotely, I believe also described by another user on the website. I have tried removing the serial no and IP address but it still doesn’t connect.
Vera Mobile is still working fine
Anything else I can try?
-
If you are not on your home Wifi, HomeWave cannot rediscover the serial number and IP address automatically; you'll have to fill them in manually. If you are still on the go, log in at http://www.micasaverde.com to obtain your unit's serial nr. and IP.
MiOS uses two servers, and I noticed that not always the same server is active. HomeWave sometimes takes a while to pick up the switch (this is fixed in the next version), so fill in the right details again and give it a minute or so to connect. If it's still broken, let me know!
-
Hi intveltr
Thanks for getting back to me
I've removed IP and serial no. Closed app added back in the serial no and IP but the app still fails to connect.
Should I removed the username and password and re enter.
Thanks
-
Yes, please try re-entering the username and password for MiOS. Is it connecting correctly on WiFi?
-
I'm away from home at the moment so not able to check on local wifi.
I've removed all the connection settings and re-entered.
The red cloud symbol stays on but does appear to connect as none the data updates.
-
No idea why it would fail to connect, especially if the website and other apps still work. Please mail me at homewave@intvelt.com if the problem persists, and perhaps we can diagnose the problem further.
Which version of the firmware are you on?
-
I have the same 'problem'. Local is fine, remote won't connect. Not really an issue for me but might help bugtracking.
-
looks like this may be a more general problem. Someone else has reported a similar issue with Automator.app. I am seeing the same issue with Automator.app on my iphone not connecting remotely
http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,12639.0.html

That's a relief, sort of :)
Mine was fine half an hour ago, but now it is failing for me as well. I've run the program through the debugger and see the following:
- connecting to sta1.mios.com to find the Vera's active MiOS server. Times out (the response actually does come in later)
- since sta1 failed, it connects to the last known IP address and times out (naturally, when on 3G)
- tries fwd1.mios.com and times out
- tried fwd2.mios.com and times out
I've sent the data request command to both fwd1 and fwd2 manually (from the browser), and both time out or return without any data. Looks like there's an issue at MiOS.
-
Would you consider exposing primary and secondary server/port settings in future versions so we are not relying on the mios servers with a router port forward in place.
Thanks
-
Great idea, adding it to the list
-
How do I delete saved screens entirely?
After some experimenting, I have ended up with some unwanted screens on the save/load list and I can't see how to get rid of them.
Thanks for any guidance!
AKB

That is not (yet) possible from within the app. To delete files from Dropbox, log in on their website and delete the files in the Apps folder. To delete files from your phone, connect it to iTunes, go to the Apps tab and scroll down, you can access the files belonging to HomeWave there

That would make things much more reliable

This is looking good. Some questions. Can one build a display to see the status of a whole room at once? Lights, doors, motion?
The answer is yes. I figured it out.
How about working with a DSC alarm system, arm, disarm ect.
Yes again, I can see all my sensors.
Only problems:
1. Does not seem to work with my 2Gig thermostat and wants to convert to metric.
2. My alarm arm/disarm scenes do not work. (All other scenes work)
-
1) Go to the phone's Settings app, scroll down to the HomeWave icon: there you can access the app's system settings. There is an option to select Fahrenheit (No conversion takes place, only the unit changes)
2) That's odd; HomeWave doesn't do anything with the contents of a scene, and runs all scenes in the same way. How do these scenes fail?
- The scene does not run at all on Vera, or
- The scene runs but the ring on the button in HomeWave remains grey.
The latter is due to a deficiency in the way HomeWave handles job confirmations (i.e. it doesn't...) Will be fixed in a future release.

Thank you for the temperature setting, I missed it in the app because for some reason it had also changed in my other app and in the MIOS interface.
I was going to update my previous post, I reinstalled the scene buttons and they started working perfectly. I got created with the scene as these two buttons arm and disarm my alarm. I set them up so the button that was active (arm if disarmed and disarmed if armed) had a green circle. It changed just as planned with the one but not the other. Not sure why it only worked only one. I made sure every setting was the same for both except color.
Other then that I find this app fantastic. I can create a page showing all my lights, a page with all power, one with my entire alarm sensors and so on. maybe some way to dynamically adjust text size would help.
Does choosing any color, (red on vs red alarm) have any affect on things at all?
Feature request: iCloud automated syncing. For some reason it keeps crating more versions of the backup file in dropbox and I have to go in and delete the old one.

Any plans for a Droid version?

Any plans for a Droid version?
Vague plans only at the time, though the new display code added for the iPad version should make it easier to accommodate different Android screen sizes. My main problem at the moment is time :)
-
Wauw! Great app!
-
Enjoying the App so far.
I can't seem to get it to see my Nest Thermostat? When I try to add it, it only displays the grey list of rooms bot no selection for my thermostat? Should it support the Nest?
-
It doesn't support the Nest yet (only the current private beta version does, sort of)
-
Ok thanks... Let us know when it does. I'd be glad to help to test it.
-
I just wanted to update this thread since posting in it months ago. Yesterday, I took some time to play with the newest version of HomeWave, and as a result, it's become my iOS Vera app of choice. Nice job. I had also gifted it to my wife several months ago & never installed it on her iPhone... well, yesterday, I did. She gives it the thumbs-up.
-
Nice to hear :)
-
Thanks for adding Nest! Works great.
-
Bought the app but shouldn't have. It doesn't support the virtual switch of which our system uses quite many to simplify the gui for the users. :'(

The current version does support the "Virtual ON/OFF Switches" plugin as well as the combination switch.
The upcoming version has a different way of examining devices and will support a much wider range of devices and plugins. What kind of virtual switches are you using? I'll check and make sure the next version supports them.
-
The "Virtual ON/OFF Switches"
-
These are supported!
When you add an On /Off control in HomeWave (in edit mode, select an empty square and click (+), then select the On/Off switch control type), all your switches should appear in the list, including the virtual ones. If they don't, would you mind sending me your configuration dump? (visit http://a.b.c.d:3480/data_request?id=user_data2&output_format=json where a.b.c.d is the IP address of your Vera).
-

Appears to be user error. I don't ever remember having problems setting up my virtual switches (AWAY MODE and GUEST MODE).

Inveltr, is there a way to do sub-menus? I'd like to have "rooms" > "office" and then have my room controls.
Also, great work on a kick-butt app. This is by far the best one for iOS.
-
Sorry, my mistake. It Works fine.
Is it not possible to handle multiple Vera's ? I have one at home and one in my Beach house.

You can set up HomeWave for your home, save that configuration, then start over and configure/save for your beach house. You can then simply load the config for the place you wish to control.
A future version will support controlling multiple Veras in a single configuration.
-
The best thing I like about the new revision is the sliders. I don't have any unsupported hardware, so I'm not too worried about that. I did read in the release notes that devices (dimmers? others?) now support power usage, though, and it interests me. Can I use that with any old dimmer or switch, like my Monster Illuminessence (Vizia RF, not +) stuff?
Not a gripe: I'm still using default colors & backgrounds. I'd love to customize it, but the app works great as it is. SO much faster than iVera since an early revision. The few times I've added backgrounds & things, it washes the buttons out, so I'd have to then start tweaking button colors... I ain't got time fo dat... :P
-
If those switches and dimmers report power usage, you'll be able to display it in HomeWave on the controls
-
Works great. By far the best app for Vera available on IOS!!
-
Hi
Can you please add the ability to turn off the report of power usage on Thermostats. Both in the control and sensor reporting applications.
Thanks
Greg
-
Open the properties for the device and turn off "Show power use", that will remove the power consumption thing
-
That option doesn't exist for the thermostats that I have linked to. I have linked to a Trane thermostat.
-
Hi,
when I set a temperature in a Thermostat Setpoint is it possible to have a confirmation message of the effective change ?
Thanks

Use Prowl for that.
-
Been using the app for quite awhile and I love it.
It does need some work on the landscape iPad screens. If you have icons on the room buttions the layout looks really bad. The icons get turned off in portrait mode so the screen looks fine.
Keep up the great work.
-
Just want to say we have tested many mobile apps (it's part of what we do after all) and HomeWave is by far the best mobile app out there! The ipad layout is a bit clunky but the iphone one is perfect! Keep up the great work!
-
My advice for iPad users is to keep the buttons on the Home screen as square as possible, or to design for either portrait or landscape and use one orientation exclusively. See also the new thread on the iPad UI :)
-
I recently upgraded from the iPhone to S4.. and seriously HomeWave is the only thing i am missing about the iPhone. Any plans to have this for android platform? This is the only vera app i consider worthwhile that makes sense.
-
Who knows? Functionally, HomeWave is stabilizing but in need of some refactoring; this would be a good time to get an Android version out there. On top of that, one of my clients asked me to build a proof-of-concept app in Android, so I got a cheapy tablet and got started on Android app development. In the next months I will port someportions of HomeWave to Android and see how easy that is. If it is, there will be an Android app at some point
-
I tried out an S4 last week and literally a deciding factor to come back was this app. I have too many things setup in it and couldn't find a suitable android app to replace it with. If you ported over to android it would be awesome!
-
Thank you for a great app!
I have one feature request :)
Is it possible to have one picture when a switch/scene is active and another when inactive?
thanks again for a great app!
regards
-
This is planned for the next version (by popular demand)
-
Hmm, well I just bought this but I'm having issues.
It detected and connected to my Vera fine, but as soon as I click on the Assign button the wifi icon turns red. I've tried to disable wifi and connect via Mios, but basically the same thing happens, it just disconnects as soon as I click on the Assign button.
Not too sure what's going on there...
I've rebooted the Vera, and also the phone, but that hasn't helped.
I do have iVera installed on the phone and that works with no issues so I'm not sure what the problem is to be honest.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Simon, try increasing the timeout settings. Open your iPhone's Sertings app and go to the HomeWave settings, you'll find the timeout values there. Also verify that Homewave picked up the correct IP address for Vera, and that it got the right Device ID from Vera as well. Then try reconnecting again.
If that still fails, please collect and send me a log from HomeWave as follows:
1) Go into the Settings app, open settings for HomeWave and turn on logging
2) Open HomeWave, let it connect and then try adding a device.
3) Open the info screen (from the totle bar in the Home panel), and click the red button to email the log
4) Your email client will open with the log file in it. Hit Send
5) Go into Settings again and disable logging (there's a performance hit if you keep it on)

Hi mate,
Thanks for that. I already tried turning both timeouts to max, so I've sent you through some logs. I sent two as the first went from my icloud account by accident, so I resent from gmail ;)
Thanks!
-
INtveltr,
I am tasting the same problem,
connection down many times, even I am near from vera and wifi strong signal,
what the good values to put in the timeout settings ?
thanks
-
In case of connection errors, try and increase the timeout values.
The connection icon turning red can be an indication that the data from Vera cannot be parsed correctly. I've noticed that Vera sometimes returns invalid UTF8 characters which will choke some JSON decoders like the one used in HomeWave. What I can see from the logfile is that this seems to be the case here.
(Simon, sent you an email for further debugging)
-
Thanks mate for all the help.
For anyone else interested, it was one of my scenes that was returning weird data. Deleted that and we're good now :)
-
Intveltr, I just bought this app a couple of hours ago, and let me tell you--I'm enjoying it so far. Money well spent. I like that I don't see all my devices and scenes initially, and can add in only those that I actually need to monitor and/or control. Very easy to change the screen layout too (which was the promise of SQ but I've had trouble with that).
Great work!
One question, and I apologize if this has been asked and answered before, but I did search for it. It's not on the home screen but when I scroll from one sub-screen to the next, I see a Downstairs page. How do I delete that? Thanks!
-

It happens sometimes... if you force-quit the app (press the Home button twice and kill HomeWave from the list of apps) and restart, it should be gone.

Can homewave display the Virtual Switch devices including the text?
-
It can. The text isn't automatically copied but you can set the text for On and Off in the control in HomeWave.
-
thx, but I really mean the text. In the find my iphone topic a scene is made where you can add the actual location in the text of the virtual switch. It would have been cool if that one would be visible.
-
for me is working displaying the 2 lines TEXT1 and TEXT2
I choose in the properties of the switch the lines I want show.
-
Keep up the great work intveltr! Great app keeps getting better. Ademco alarm functionality is great. Push is a great addition as well. Now I get a push message when I've successfully armed my alarm and a different message if the alarm is triggered. Plus I can always just go to my Homewave screen to see status of alarm and other devices. Very nice work.
-
Hello,
I realy like the feature where you can add different images for devices that are on or off. Is it possible to add this for dimmed devices as well? And have 1% count as on.
Regards
-
Good one, added to next version
-
Last night, I started playing with the "Action Button" feature, because I wanted to add a button to toggle between two screens, "Main" and "Lights." I set Action to "Go to screen" and then tried to find the "Lights" screen in the "Screen" menu... but it wasn't there! All of my control screens were missing. I realized that they were missing because I had used hard returns in their caption fields to position the caption vertically. When I removed the hard returns from the caption field, the names of the control screens were available on the picker.
I'm not sure what to suggest here, other than adding a discrete vertical/horizontal offset to the caption. Ultimately, I just removed all of the hard returns & made the captions transparent, since my images are descriptive enough for me.

Hi I don't know if it's only me but my devices that I setup in iPad don't show up in my iPhone. I had to do it again in iPhone. Just bought homewave couple of days ago and I am impressed. Any thoughts about my issue? Thanks

If you install the app multiple times, the configuration will not be synchronized between them. You can however save the configuration on one phone and load it onto the other. Two ways of doing that: save to your phone, transfer the file using iTunes, and load it onto the other phone (or mail it to yourself and open the mail attachment on the phone). Or save to Dropbox and load from there on the other phone.

Hi,
First I have to say I've been using the app for a few weeks and am having a great time with it.
So much so I grabbed a couple of old iPads and set them up as dedicated room remotes.
I have a couple of suggestions if I may:
1) Transparent (invisible) Dimmer Slider: As an example I have a photo of my kitchen and presently
click on the kitchen table to turn on/off the light. I was able to hide everything for the On/Off switch
but I can't seem to make invisible the dimmer slider switch - would be awesome to slide my finger
on the picture of the table to dim the lights
2) Have the auto dim the iPad set to either a switch (virtual or real) turned On or Off (instead of just
On). Right now I have a virtual switch with two scenes to turn the VS on/off if room goes dark. If
HomeWave could dim the iPad with a switch turns Off, I could just use a real switch on/off setting
and skip the scenes and virtual switch. In other words I'd like the iPad to dim when a light is Off.
3) Run an iOS app: Would love to click on my Sonos music system on the background photo for a
room and automatically start the Sonos app.
Great work! Thanks

I was having problem doing it with itunes but successfully saved and reloaded the configuration from ipad to iphone using Dropbox. Files in dropbox are also saved in their website raising "security concern". just my 2 cents. anyway, thanks for your help.

The config files are encrypted, so they ought to be reasonably secure on a cloud server.

+1 for an Android version as well..
btw, have you seen the 1 app that comes up when you search for HomeWave.. it's called HomeWav
"the system allows incarcerated individuals to speak to approved friends and loved ones directly with no facility personal involvement"
I was very confused when I first looked you up on the Android... ???
anyway.. looking forward to the android version .. with the price on some of these android tablets I could put one in every room, especially with Black Friday deals coming next week...

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. But I've messed with the app for about 10 minutes and can't figure out. Linked my thermostat, added "thermostat, thermostat settings, and sensor measurement"
I cannot set the temperature on the app. For example, I'd like to get the auto from 67-70 degrees. I cannot figure that out. Also, the sensor measurement is always correct. However, the "thermostat" is always reads in Celsius and cannot be moved up, but CAN move down.
Thoughts?

Man, been wanting to get this app but Ive been hoping it would go on sale and drop in price during the holidays... Sad to see that so far it hasnt. Sounds like its much better than the Vera Mobile app which badly needs some love.

It's just $6. Compared to some other apps, that's ridiculously cheap. And considering a switch costs minimum $30, it's nearly nothing.

Yes yes yes I understand that logic very well, but youre talking to guy who has over 250 apps on my phone and I HATE ads so I have purchased all of them that had paid versions. Ive had iOS devices almost since the beginning and have accumulated a lot of paid apps and I pretty much always wait for them to drop in price to save a bit on money on my iOS software investment. Usually I use the AppShopper app to track and alert me when apps in my WishList go on sale.
-
Had you gotten in early, you could have saved $2.
I've since bought the app for my wife's phone at full price. Somehow I never find myself wishing I hadn't dropped the money on it...
Your paid apps are a sunk cost.

@intveltr I am having some orientation trouble on my iPad (iPad 2 os 7.0.4) mounted on the wall in landscape. if I turn off "iPad sliding home screen" all of my controls are oriented in portrait (except for my navigation home screen)
I am just missing a setting to fix this? Thanks.

A couple more questions if I may:
- Is there a way to get homewave on the iPad to black out the screen after it is idle for X seconds while keeping the iPad awake/unlocked staying connected to Vera (and a touch will wake up the screen) ? If not, is there a way for homewave to maintain its connection to Vera when the iPad is locked so that a swipe returns immediately to a connected and updated homewave ?
- is there a way to hide the top bar with the ? and i icons etc on the iPad to help it look more streamlined when mounted on a wall?
thanks !

Hmm, seeing the same now on my iPad. No fix unfortunately, I will address it in an upcoming release, but for now I suggest using the sliding home panel.
There is no setting yet to black out the screen after a certain time, but you can have it go black if a certain light goes dark on your Vera. The timeout option is planned for a later release.
The top bar can't be hidden, but I may add an option for that at some point.

This appears to be an issue that occurs when you exit the app, turn off the sliding home panel, then go back into the app. If you close and kill the app and restart, you should be good. (Will address this in the next version).

Hi,
Is it possible to set how much the ipad screen should dim when you use the auto dim function?
regrads
-
+1
i would love to be able to set it to go completely black after X seconds of inactivity (without losing connection to vera), then wake when touched. That would make it much easier to use Homewave on my wall mounted iPad in the bedroom.
-
Making the screen dim after a certain amount of inactivity is planned. Note that it's not possible to set the dim level, nor can the screen be made completely black. The latter is a limitation of the iPhone os.

Had a quick question regarding a security and HomeWave. How does the app store the MiOS username and password? Is it only locally stored? Backup with iCloud? Backed up in some way with the developer? Despite the great reviews (and how much I like the app so far) Im still a little leery of giving a third party app my MiOS username and password. Especially being that I have no idea what information the app might be sending anywhere. No offense to intveltr intended, but with all the information leaks and hacks the media is blowing up these days I feel more and more and very concerned about such things.
-
@intveltr, thanks! would it be easy for you to put a big black box over everything (or worst case change the colors of text, rings, foreground, background, etc. on the visible screen and home to black)? that might get it close enough to black to work in a bedroom. then a touch would eliminate the dim and the black overlay or black color scheme?
i have noticed the latest version seems to take a little longer to re-establish the vera connection when the iPad wakes. being able to do the above would eliminate the re-connect time completely, making it more like a dedicated home automation control panel, and that would be super if possible! Thanks.

Your MiOS password is stored in your iPhone's keychain, an encrypted repository provided by iOS for this purpose. When you save the configuration to the app's file area or Dropbox, the MiOS password is stored in the file after which the entire file is encrypted; it can only be read by HomeWave. The password is not stored anywhere else nor is it transmitted anywhere but to MiOS, using SSL.
That makes it reasonably secure (not 100% especially if your device is jailbroken).

HomeWave App is great! - and happy to see that multiple Veras (2) are now supported.
So, I'll be the first to ask...any chance additional Veras will be supported in future releases? I have 3 Veras - and would love to put them all under HomeWave

Definitely. The limitation is not due to the networking code but purely because of the settings screen. v1.80 will have that screen moved into the app, with an option for unlimited Veras. (Keep in mind there may be a v1.78 release first, with some bug fixes).

@intveltr: I am a happy user of the homewave app.. however I'm really concerned about this.
Following some incidents with my alarm system (sensors getting disarmed while I was not at home), I've asked one of my friends (he's a z-wave enthusiast and also a programmer) to check my setup.
Long story short, he took a look at the app (he uses an Android tablet for his vera, so had no previous experience with homewave) and found that the user/password are stored in a text file on the Phone (made a note this: "a homewave.plist file"). He said that if the iphone is connected to a computer, anyone can read the file and the password!!!!!!
For the time being, I have stopped using homewave as I've been beta-testing two iphone/ipad apps (which unfortunately are not as complete, but one of them has a very nice UI and is more secure according to my friend). I would still keep homeware for the extended features...
Please, please fix this. I am very concerned about the fact that someone might get access to my mios acccount!!! Definitively a showstopper for me.
-
The risk of someone deliberately targeting MiOS credentials through a PC that you connect your iPhone to is rather slim (although it is slightly more likely now that you publicly mentioned it ;) ). Even so, those credentials should be encrypted, so I will make sure that they are in the next version.
-
Just like with every website/forum/blog/etc you give a username and password for you really never have any idea how the programmers (or whoever manages the site) manages your information. That was exactly why I posted earlier in this thread asking how HomeWave stores our miOS information. Nobody ever questions those things and for all we know everyone we give usernames and passwords to can see them and use them however they like. Or, have them stolen buy someone who breaks their security.

Hi Intveltr...
I have observed my global cache wifi to cc stop work by home wave app after I made update in the gc100 plugin to control a globalcache flex ip wifi,
The devices of globalcache wifi to cc are controlled by vera UI but do not appears anymore in homewave when I try relink or add that.
I will return to gc100 basic plugin even my itachflex lost conection because I need of the another to close and open my curtain but I think is important you know the problem.
Thanks for your job with homewave
-
Has anything changed in the way the GC100 plugin reports its status?
-
There are two distinct patches going around that have not been merged into the App Store release.
One is from RTS for CC status feedback and the second to support the itach flex. The first is only available through RTS on request and the second is in one of the threads.
-
just bought the app, and came to say hello and thanks for your work!
-
I have installed that one to do itach flex works...
How can i correct this ?
Thanks
-
Hi.
I am using Homewave with veralite & a schlage lock. All works very well.
Any chance of adding a control element to allow the addition and removal of pin numbers for the Schlage lock?
Cheers
-
is there a way to set the same background to all screen? Or at least remember the colour I used previously?
App is great, but setting it up takes a lot of time, because of all the features!
-
HomeWave looks cool. Can you tell me which versions of the UI it supports? UI4,UI5 and UI6?
thanks,
Chris
-
Not sure about UI4. UI5 is supported. UI6 is supported on LAN only; you won't be able to use HomeWave with UI6 remotely via MiOS.
-
Intveltr,
Is possible put stop button in audio video media control ? I am using to control my sonos system and would be good a sto button there.
Thanks for your job with homewave and support to sonos.
-
The stop button is available; open the properties for the control and turn on the option for extra buttons.
-
Perfect, thanks !

Here's a suggestion. I don't miss iVera, except for one thing... the thermostat controls use the native iPhone scrolling function for heating & cooling setpoints. See the screen shot, attached. I don't know if you've considered adding one more control type to the Ring, Buttons, and Slider, but I'd really like to see that as a way to quickly set BOTH setpoints, instead of just setting the one for whichever mode is active (COOL/HEAT).
-
First, I wanted to say how great your app is, although, it's caused me to continue to spend money on z-wave devices because I keep wanting to add to it. Anyway, I just saw that someone release an app on MIOS called Simple Alarm. It doesn't appear in the alarm selection in Homewave, but was wondering if anyone else uses it that you may want to include it in a release. Please keep up the excellent work and thanks again.
-
I saw a comment from the developer of Simple Alarm that he may start working to make it compliant with the the 'standards' for an alarm system. Once that happens, the 3rd party app developers can easily integrate his great new plugin.

It's hard to come up with an easy to use control like that without it taking up half the screen :)
You can already control both setpoints though. Add 2 linear controls and link them both to the same thermostat. In the control properties, you'll find a setting "Controlling: temperature"; if you click it you can set it to control the heat or cool setpoint irrespective of mode.
-

Yes, that's true. The screen shot I showed you is a pop-up. After setting those setpoints, the screen wipes downward. That would be a huge departure from how HomeWave works now, and I get that.

Yes, true. I've had a few screens like that. I guess I just can't come up with a way to make it look good. It works fine. I guess I just like the scrolling numbers...!

Attached is what I've just done. It works fine. I realize that aesthetics are limited to some degree by my imagination...

Intveltr,
Have a way to push notifications from homewave app become with the date and time ?
Thenks
-
Is there a lua command structure for HomeWave push notifications?
-
I run Vera Alerts on my Andriods, I have a nice history list of when people came in and out of my vacation house. On the Iphone with Homewave is it not possible to see that same kind of information? Wasn't sure if I was missing it or it just doesn't exist?
-
it has a push notification plugin, works nicely. I just wanted to code in some more information than it is ready to accept right now.
-

Yea I currently have notification setup and running on Homewave. Only problem I have is I see it live and can check under apple drop down and it tells me last 5 or so and rounds it to the hours it happen.
VeraAlerts on my Andriod it keeps weeks of information and exact time. So for a vacation house I can see when someone checked in and out a few days ago. I can't get any of that right now on the Apple.
-
I would like to see this in Homewave as well.
Another way is to use VeraAlerts and Prowl. Then you get the history with time stamps. But I would rather keep it all in HomeWave for simplicity.

Sorry, I am new to this but feel I have enough knowledge to get to the point where I have 4 in 1 sensor, 2 water sensor, tilt and thermostat working/configured. with working scenes, triggers (text etc). I can use web based or MMS vera app on iOS without any problem (well not really trouble free MMS vera, when I close the app and re-launch it it fails to see my vera. I have to logout and login again before it recognizes my vera again)
My point is why Homewave app is unfriendly (I am sure it is highly customizable for Linux geek) and no support contacts are provided? I dont know how I can get support from them as website has no email, phone support listed.
I have purchased Homewave and have configured my IP, user and password in iOS under Setting - homewave. It does not detect my vera or vera device ID.
when I login to cp.mios.com it does not detect my vera.
Vera works fine at home.getvera.com (no problem with old or new UI)
What am I doing wrong? do I need to associate my vera at cp.mios.com? and how? I thought cp.mios.com and home.getvera.com is the same?
Please help me understand why homewave is not working. I am willing to dump homewave if anyone can recommend iVera is worth the money. thanks in advance

I am not a programmer. I purchased iVera first, and used it for maybe 6 months. iVera is fine, but hardly worth the price.
HomeWave has been fantastic, and the developer's responsiveness to user input is... well, unparalleled is a strong word, but it's really good.

Could you provide more detail? Are you using a static IP in Vera? You say, "when I login to cp.mios.com it does not detect my vera"... where are you trying to log in from? What device/software/browser?
"Vera works fine at home.getvera.com"... and which UI? "old or new" isn't informative.

The best way to get support for HomeWave is through this forum. The person who created it is active and will help you with any problems. There are also quite a few people (like me) that might be able to answer questions.
Don't dump HomeWave. The problem you are having is that you are most likely running UI6 in your Vera. UI6 is not yet supported by most apps because there was a big change in how apps authenticate with Vera's servers. intveltr (homewave's developer) is already working on adding support for UI6. For now the only way for you to use it would be to request Vera's support to downgrade your device to UI5. You will probably lose your current settings and have to setup everything again.
Please let us know if you are indeed running UI6 (if you are not sure on how to check, a screenshot of your vera's homepage should do it since they are quite different).
edit: it seems like you should know about UI6 since you have posts on a different thread talking about another app's UI6 support

This may be something I can add to the plugin, I'll take a look.
-
Is there a lua command structure for HomeWave push notifications?
The HomeWave Push plugin accepts the following LUA to send messages:
luup.call_action("urn:intvelt-com:serviceId:HWPush1", "SendMessage", {Msg = "Bla"}, deviceid)
Make sure to use the right deviceId.

Does HomeWave always fail to connect to Vera, or only when your iPhone is not on your own WiFi net? If the latter, you are probably on UI6, which is a beta firmware not yet supported by HomeWave (the upcoming version will support it). HomeWave should work fine with UI6 on the LAN though.
There could be several reasons why HomeWave fails to connect when on the local LAN, usually due to unusual network setups. Do you have multiple subnets? Does the IP address you use to access Vera's control panel (and which you've configured in HomeWave) work when you use it in your iPhone's browser?
Ps. the email for support can be found on the Support page of the HomeWave website.

Installed an Aeon micro switch today and noticed that Homeway doesn't show the watts used. No option to enable it.
The switch doesn't meter the usage itself but I have entered the watts manually. Vera GUI shows it.
-
@intveltr
By talking about multiple issues I may have caused confusion.
Lets talk about HomeWave app only.
I have NOT been able to connect to veralite using Homewave using Wifi or otherwise new or old UI. I have followed every step per your website (I can communicate using other apps as well).
BTW- HomeWave does NOT have support email on the website. If fact when I click on "support" at url http://homewave.intvelt.com/, it changes the contents of the page but does not change the url at all. It is different as most websites when user navigates to to other areas of the website... url is changed too.
The only email offered at homewave under support page is "homewave@intvelt.com" for questions and problems. It was not clear to me that it can be used for "support". I will send email shortly and hope to hear back soon.

Hmm, my aeon works fine on Homewave. Can you see it in Vera? I think there's a home wave option in the switch setting to display wattage.

I can see it in Vera and it shows the watts (that I've entered manually). I have another Aeon with built-in power metering and that one displays the usage in Homewave. Other devices, where I have entered wattage manually, show up correctly in Homewave as well. So it's only this single one that is not working.
Also, I wonder if it's possible to change the color and background of the box showing the power usage? Mine is now green+black.

The background color is close to or the same as the button's background; the text color is fixed...

Ok, then I will try changing the background.
Any thoughts on the missing usage for the Aeon switch?
-
Congratulations Intveltr, for the last version, is very fast to connect even out using 3G connections..
good app for our Vera Systems...
thanks !

Can you make it so the time is displayed in the status bar? Sometimes I want to know if a scene triggered at the right time and it would be so much easier to check the clock on the phone if I didn't have to leave Homewave. Thanks!

I have a Aeon Labs multisensor and the app doesn't support the motion sensor (arm and bypass)!
I hope this is implemented soon!

Are you still getting these? I have had a few old notifications and gotten some double ones. Seems to be a glitch with Apple.
It's also possible that you picked the same Push ID as someone else, so if you used a relally obvious one, try changing it.

yes I've been getting them at all hours of the night and day. I've also been getting notifications for garage door open even though I don't have one hooked up.... I'll try changing my push ID and see if this helps.
Is there a reason the push Id must be 20 digits? That's a very long Id, wouldn't it be easier to just have a 5/6 digit push ID?
-
The push service is somewhat experimental :) The Push ID needs to be long in order to avoid 2 people picking the same one, and it needs to be configurable so that you can receive messages from multiple Veras on multiple iPhones.
The alternative is to generate an ID behind the scenes, but for that you'd need to have an account + password on the push server. That will happen at some point but it will take some time to add.

Hi,
I've setup a vpn to access my home systems included Veralite. Can you suggest me how to configure Homewave to direct access (via internet & vpn) veralite ? For your info I'm using as vpn a router with dd-wrt and openvpn.

-
To begin with, be sure that you've chosen a VPN implementation that is compatible with your mobile device. I believe that iOS does not support OpenVPN. Personally I use L2TP for my VPN, and that works.
Then test your VPN connection by activating it from outside your LAN, opening up mobile Safari and pointing it at your (inside the LAN) Vera's IP address. You should see the Vera Web UI and be able to control it.
Once THAT works you can start thinking about configuring HomeWave.
-
Hi Futzle,
I've installed Openvpn Connect on Iphone and I can access my ipcam correctly and via safari my Veralite web gui with my private ip address.

Good. Then you can configure your Vera in HoneWave by opening it up, tapping on the "i" in the title bar, then tapping "Vera". Hint: Direct to Vera is a useful setting.

I've tried and Homewave has connected. But I'm not sure if directly of via Mios. I don't have to put anything in the URL (Internet) field ?

You can empty out the MiOS username and password fields, which will prevent you connecting via the forwarding servers. If it works, you're using the VPN.

Done,
it seems to connect to Veralite. Has changed the connection symbol on the top right of Homewave from remote (cloud) to wifi. I've have wifi not active on iphone.

How would you configure Homewave to use a DNS server to access Vera to bypass the mios servers?

@ intveltr
I think that would be a great feature if it were easy to add -- a control that displays a webkit view of a url, for example to show my pool controller's web page without having to leave HW and go to Safari.
-
So Homewave cannot bypass the Vera servers? I am looking to be totally independent from Vera servers. Another question..........If you leave Vera, will Homewave continue to work?
-
So Homewave cannot bypass the Vera servers? I am looking to be totally independent from Vera servers. Another question..........If you leave Vera, will Homewave continue to work?
I don't think any app bypasses the vera servers except for local control. I also don't think many have successfully setup or continue to use vpn/ port forwarding to their veras due to security reasons.
-
I am curious because doesn't Homewave when connected to my Home WiFi network communicate directly with Vera and not go through the Vera servers?
-
You can bypass the Vera servers by setting up port forwarding on your router (insecure, not recommended) or by setting up a VPN. If you use port forwarding, enter the address and port to your Vera as accessible from the Internet in the URL field of the Vera settings in Homewave, and select Direct to Vera

What happens to Homewave if you leave Vera?

You mean if you kill your account at Mios / Getvera? It'll still work, but on your LAN only unless you set up the aforementioned VPN / Port forwarding.

Well, I was actually asking if YOU leave Vera what happens with Homewave?
-
Well, I was actually asking if YOU leave Vera what happens with Homewave?
That's a silly question.
The app continues to work, but stops getting updated, unless he allows someone to take over.
-
Heh. At the moment, Vera works reasonably well for me, and I am rather conservative in that I won't jump ship every time a newcomer hits the market. So I'm unlikely to move in the near future. If I do move I'd probably support both platforms; continued Vera support would not take that much effort and the revenue justifies it.
As for letting someone take over: if I abandon HomeWave completely, I'd be happy to dump the code on GitHub, but I pity anyone who takes over that code :)

Hello. I need fibaro smoke sensor support. Now homewave detected it only as measurement sensor, not as sensor indicator.
-
Activate the smoke detector (use the test button if it has one) so that it shows as activated in the Vera UI, then try HomeWave again. It should show up in the list of binary sensors.

Fibaro don't have test fire mode.

What model do you have?
http://www.fibaro.com/sca/system-fibaro/smoke-sensor-en
This says hold the center button (probley the only button) to test.

Yes, this one. It have only z-wave connection test, not activate
-
Just wondering if you have plans to support the RGBW controller plug in so we can use Fibaro RGBW controller?
Thanks for your great work and support!
-
Yes, but not sure when... work is a bit slow at the moment due to other stuff that has to take precedence.
-
Recently HomeWave has stopped working completely. I have it loaded on four devices and they all do the same thing which is the application just exits 2 to 3 seconds after entering. I have not modified the config for several months. I updated the app this morning no change.
The web app works fine. I have repowered the Vera and nothing changes. Am ready to teach my wife to use the Web portal....
Note this is a Vera Edge running NOT the latest firmware. Every time I consider upgrading I read a few recent posts on upgrading and back away. If it fixes HomeWave I am all for it but I am pretty sure it will be painful.
What else can I check?
-
There is an issue with some version sof UI7 and thermostats. I am still not sure what the deal is; UI7 suddenly started reporting thermostat states differently, and it causes HomeWave to crash. The upcoming version of HomeWave will at least fix the crash, but I am not sure if it will thermostats fully functional again.
In any case: put your phone in Airplane mode, start HomeWave, and delete your thermostats. Then enable networking again. You can try and upgrade the firmware and re-add the thermostats, but it may not make a difference.
-
Well...adding my CT100 the first time was not easy. I had to do it 6 times and completely reset the Vera every time (edge issue). In come cases on the Web server it would say "NaN" (Not A Number) for the set point value. When that happened HomeWave would crash.
I followed your suggestion and it works now. That is I deleted it with WiFi off and reinserted it. I did not have to touch the Vera it was simply a matter of deleting and then re-inserting in HomeWave.
What I notice is that for the first time I am seeing your little snowflake icon. That is it broke when I switched from Heating mode to AC mode. Now that I have started over in AC mode it seems fine again.
Thanks for the tip.

Quick question. Whats the best resoltion for a background image on the main panel? I'm working on some sweethome 3d images of my homes floorplan and I want to try to get the best image quality possible with my home design. I did a rough draft already and while it looked great on the computer screen, I think the scaling on the ipad app impacted the quality of the image. Here is what I am talking about. It's a work in progress as I've only got an hour or so working on this. This is also my first attempt working with this program.

Hi intveltr ,
I've activated a Danfoss Thermostat that now with the last firmware upgrade (June) on VeraEdge seems to work correctly.
I've a problem with your app that seems to display the "CurrentSetPoint Heat" variable instead of "CurrentSetPoint". The UI7 interface and the MCV IOS app display the "CurrentSetPoint" . I've tried both option in the "Controlling" item (Temperature and Heating Temperature) relative to the thermostat configuration of your app.
Following the answer of MCV support to my question about the two variables:
I checked with a member of the Development Team, this is his response.
Yes this is normal because on UI7, urn:upnp-org:serviceId:TemperatureSetpoint1_Heat and urn:upnp-org:serviceId:TemperatureSetpoint1_Cool are obsolete. Check our wiki for more details on this :
http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Luup_UPnP_Variables_and_Actions#TemperatureSetpoint1
tnks donato
-
I just upgraded my VeraLite to the latest version of UI7 as well. This device STILL doesn't work well.
- The device status (user_data2) reports CurrentSetpoint in both urn:upnp-org:serviceId:TemperatureSetpoint1 and urn:upnp-org:serviceId:TemperatureSetpoint1_Heat
- Sending x.x.x.x:3480/data_request?id=lu_action&DeviceNum=x&serviceId=urn:upnp-org:serviceId:TemperatureSetpoint1&action=SetCurrentSetpoint&NewCurrenSetpoint=x iin the browser results in "ERROR: invalid service".
- Sending the same command using TemperatureSetpoint1_Heat results in a job number (success), and the Vera UI shows: waiting for wakeup to send commands.
Other thermostats appear to work better in UI7 with the latest (beta) version of HomeWave, at least testers have reported that they can read and set the setpoints correctly (albeit only the setpoint for the currently active mode).
-
Hi intveltr ,
I've activated a Danfoss Thermostat that now with the last firmware upgrade (June) on VeraEdge seems to work correctly.
If you PM me your email address, I'll add you to the beta testing if you want. From what I can see in the current beta build so far, most thermostats work correctly. The Danfoss works as well after the HomeWave control is set to use the "Heat temperature" setpoint. Once MCV fixes the UI7 firmware to accept actions on the correct uPnP service, the control can be changed to use "Temperature" setpoint.
It's all a bit crappy, but the easiest way to cope with some thermostats like the Danfoss not working as advertised.

Hi Intevltr,
I've installed yhe beta version and I did some tests with Danfoss thermostat.
It seems that when I change the setpoint from Homerwave the change is reflected on the Danfoss thermostat and in the UI7 interface.
When I change the setpoint from the UI7 interface the change is reflected on the Danfoss thermostat but not on the control in Homewave.

update : after a restart of Homewave the controls of thermostats display 0 value.

I'm having an issue with my nest thermostat. I had the original nest plugin and it has worked fine with homewave for months. Now I just noticed I could not change the set point from homewave or Vera and they were not reading the correct information from the thermostat. I saw the original nest plugin is no longer supported and Vera has made there own. So I uninstalled the one I had and installed Vera's nest plugin. Now I can control my nest thermostat thru the Vera app but I cannot add the set point button to homewave to control it thru there. It crashes each time I try to add it. Anyone else have issues with there nest and homewave?
-
I'm also getting crashes anytime I add my Trane thermostat.
Any chance of a fix getting published soon?
Thanks!

I expect to publish the fix in early July. I am currently extremely busy with other stuff that takes priority, but that work ends in June.
-
No problem. Thanks for the update and developing this app!

Is there any chance the direct camera urls (even if only working with blue iris) will be in the July update? (I would be happy to pay extra for this!) Thanks.

Hi Intevltr,
I'm using the plugin "think cleaner" which add an ability to control iRobot Roomba from Vera interface.
The roomba appears as a device in my UI7 dashboard, but I couldn't find any way to add it to my Homewave devices..
Any idea how to work it out?
-
I'll take a look. I don't think my own Roomba has remote control capability though... or are you using some extra hardware for this?

YES thinking cleaner is a wifi chip added to the serial port of diagnostic connector of the roomba.

Roowifi is also another company that did this. Both of these have plugins available in VERA bus support for remote vera APPS doesn't exist for these custom plugins.

Until the developer adds it to the app you can create a scene that starts the roomba, and one that stops or docks it.
You can then use a custom icon and button in Homewave to run the scene.
I have also use the multistring plugin to give me battery and status info some of my apps.

Sorry for the late reply, we are on holidays this time of year.
As integlikewhoa worte above, you need an extra hardware to add the wifi control for roomba.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll will use it for now. hopefully intveltr will add it in the near future.

will geofencing become available?

Hi Invelt,
Just a question, I already installed the application via Smartphone, how do I use this and how do I log-in? Do i need to use my Vera account to access this? and I am using Vera Lite.
Thanks,
-
Yes, simply enter your Vera account details to log in remotely. The app uses the Vera gateway service to do this.

I have created a new device to control the SOMFY RTS blind control using RFXtrx433e module. In order to allow for UP-STOP-DOWN control, I have to pick the ?Window Covering? control element in Homewave. Though the controls UP-STOP-DOWN are working fine, the status controls do not seem to work. Neither background nor ON(100%)/OFF(0%) color seem to work.
The observed anomalies do not manifest with Imperihome. Hence I assume that my VERA configuration is not an issue.
How to go abot in resolving this issue.
Rgds

Apologies for a late reply, I haven't been watching this thread the past few weeks.
If you add a status indicator to the control ("light level bar" in the properties), does the bar indicate the position of the blinds?
There is an active bug affecting coloring or background status of dimmers, this probably affects blinds as well since they use the same visual control element.
-
Enabling "light level bar" does not result in the bar being displayed. I'm using the buttons option which is represented by two triangles. These button colors are being displayed equal despite the fact that different colors are being specified for 0-100%. These colors do not CHANGE depending on variables "Status" and/or "LoadLevelStatus". Neither does the background color of the box change. Hence, you can't identify whether the sun blinds are rolled-off or rolled-on.
-
The light level bar only shows up if you turn on the ring.
There's a bug that prevents the colors from changing on dimmers, this will be fixed in the next version.

trying to figure out the sleep mode. I have an ipad2 on a wall mount and all works great. I want to enable always on and have it dimmed until I touch the screen. (I'm figuring the ipad would burn out prematurely if left always on)? I see a setting to dim if certain switches are on, but thats not what I want to do, rather have it dimmed if switches are off, not on. Just wondering if Im missing something here.
-
The sleep mode is a bit limited, and you can only have the app dim if a certain switch is on. It kind of makes sense to have it the other way around so you can link it to a ceiling light or some such. I'll see about adding a "reverse" option.

Rather than start a new topic, thought I'd throw in the general discussion.
Any chance of having a feature for Homewave to trigger a VPN that is configured on the iPhone? My issue (being in Australia) and MCV servers being in the US (and generally crap at the best of times) is the time it takes to connect over 3G/4G using the Vera Relay.
What I'd like to be able to tell Homewave to do is open a VPN when I make the app active, and optionally close the VPN when I shut the app down or move it to the background after a period of X seconds. Kind of like an on demand VPN.
-
Not sure, but it's an interesting idea. I can look into this.

good afternoon. I'm very tired of vera bugs and are actively looking for a replacement. The only problem is the interface for my tablet. Is there any chance that Homewave will be able to work with Domoticz.com?
-
Have a look at openLuup which uses AltUI and works great with HomeWave...
