Title: Configuring UI7 Dashboard
Post by: jaded on July 07, 2015, 09:42:09 pm
The UI7 dashboard has several severe usability problems for me.  It's the landing page on the Vera Mobile app, so my wife and I always see it first, but it's full of useless and dangerous things that I don't want instant access to, it's lacking the things I do want instant access to, and I can't customize it.

Here are the problems, ordered only by their appearance on the screen, not importance.

Alerts:  it's always listing 10 alerts, including at least one from "136009 hours ago".  That's over 15 years, and I'm pretty sure my Vera Edge isn't that old.  There is no way to clean them up once viewed, so I always ignore it completely.  An ignored alert is as ineffective as no alert at all.  Either clear the alerts upon reading them, give me a way to clear the alerts, or allow me to remove them from this screen.

Current status:  it's a very big section that I don't want.  Batteries always die, so I'll change them on the weekends, on my schedule.  I'm not placing myself at the beck and call of a dead Duracell the moment it goes flat.  And the pane scares my wife, who thinks the house will slide off its foundation if there's an error displayed.  The rest is uninteresting to me, especially the blank pane reserved for an energy card I'm never going to have, and I want to remove this entire section from the dashboard.

My Shortcuts:  Turn All Off/On will control many devices that aren't lights, and it includes timed lights in the greenhouse that should not be turned on or off by the users, and I have no way of configuring the membership of this group.  I can't even get rid of the switch.

My Shortcuts:  Unlock All Doors - does anyone think it's a good idea to have a switch like this that they can accidentally tap while they're away at work, or (worse) on vacation?  There is no point to having this on the shortcut screen at all - only danger.  And I can't get rid of it.

My Shortcuts:  I'd like to have scenes/devices that are most important to me listed here.

My Favorites:  if I could rank them in order of favorite-ness, this would be far more useful to me.  As is, some devices that are less compelling have floated mysteriously to the top of this list.

My Favorites:  some of my favorite things to control are scenes.  But I can't mark a scene as a favorite to have it show up here.  I have to hamburger-menu over to the Scenes page to control them.

The bottom line is the default landing page needs to be the most configurable page on the site, and yet it's the least configurable.

Vera's app sucks. I recommend buying Imperihome on the play store or authomationhd on this forum but development stopped on that one.

And consider alternate ui7 on this forum for gui and mobile interface, also on this forum. Just search.

This could also be of benefit.  I have VPs that I configured on the dashboard page that roll it all up into much more usable panels.  Also I use the Web GUI on my phone/tablets and it works just fine.,31128.0.html

I completly agree, I would like to be able to personalize my home page.
How is it possible that I can't choose my shortcuts ?

Why must I have the modes first ? The modes are not appropriate for my usage, why would it be the first displayed item, I don't use them.

Finally, I don't manage security with Vera, so why should I have it displayed ?

Please, let us manage our home page, and choose what is important for us, users.
