Title: Movez - New Zwave controlled window blind controller $49
Post by: Kingcool on September 09, 2016, 11:24:57 am
Hi!
The people behind the bluetooth controlled window blind system MOVE, just started a campaign on INDIEGOGO for another device, but with Z-Wave support for just $49:

Regular link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/movez-motorize-blinds-and-shades-gadget/

Just ordered 4 devices and looking forward to test them out!

They started with bluetooth controlled units. They are just about to start sending those out. They have given everyone waiting for those, the opportunity to wait and have them changed to z-wave units.
I have decided to get the bluetooth version to test and just buy the z-wave version later if it is okay. I still hope that Vera will implement the bluetooth version anyway.

all my blinds are the "stick" kinds where they have a long wand/stick on the right that you twist to open them and a pull string on the left draw them up to the top of the window.
any way to convert those or these to work with the wand type of blinds? (just looking for ideas)
I would convert my wands over to chains/strings if something like this would work.

The Move could raise and lower your blinds but not tilt them (As far as I know). I think you would have to change them to beaded cord tilt control to do tilt as well. You would also need separate ones for raise/lower and tilt.

I was looking for any information if somebody got the Bluetooth version? I can't understand how a Z-wave solution for this can so cheap... It looks so smart and easy but before I buy this I want to know about the Bluetooth... If somebody please can tell me I would definitely buy at least 8 pcs to my house!

But wait how long? I decided I had waited long enough and I just want to trial it. If I like it I might jump on the funding wagon to get z-wave units discounted.

according to the IGG page, they are slated for shipping by March 2017. As I intend to redo my blinds by the end of the year anyway the wait is no issue. Also the location I intend to use them is kinda at the limit for a BT connection but well within my Z-Wave mesh with a GE device within 5 feet.

Anyone have tried MOVE ( bluetooth verson ) to be controlled by Vera Plus ? Waiting for Z-wave version is a long way.  It's better to try BT first.

Vera won't support the BT version until they write the specific code to implement it. That will only happen based on demand. My worry is that if a z-wave version becomes available there will be no need for them to implement BT.

Sounds awesome. I am not a kickstart/indigogo person but as soon as its for sale I will buy a bunch.  I hope this shows up as a zwave shade for existing UI5.

If this becomes a thing I will happily make solar kits as an add-on so we dont need to worry about batteries.

As I remember, they come with solar panels.

They do come with solar panels. Seems people have received them and some minor issues have been found.
Seems the beaded chains make a clicking noise and they are redesigning the sprocket. Also in some cases the battery doesn't seem to provide enough power for heavy blinds so you have to use the power supply. Teething problems mostly it seems so I'm pretty confident about the zwave version I upgraded mine to. Which should have most kinks worked out...

I am still waiting for the bluetooth version. Maybe its fortunate that it has not yet been delivered. That said, I don't need it for beaded chain and hopefully it not a heavy blind.

The bluetooth version was a Kickstarter project which was funded and has ended.

The ZWave version is an indiegogo project and can be found below. Not sure if you can still get one.

Blind Valet Web now has Portuguese and Spanish versions to go with the original English and French.  If you are bi-lingual and would like a version in your native language, let me know.

$45?  More like $60+ on their website.  Did they raise the price?

They just made an update:
Quote
Update

First we like to apologize that we have not made an update earlier, we have all been really busy pushing forward with our production capabilities, partner discussions, distribution channels and technology development.

Like you all probably know we have a partner called Telldus that is responsible for the development of the z-wave software inside MOVEZ. Telldus have built a home automation system based upon z-wave and have made a lot of z-wave products that they have available for sale in their web shop at www.telldus.se if anyone is interested in gearing up =)

The work of making the software MOVEZ:s forward as planned and if we do not stumble upon any unforeseen things in the development should be on time, but we are not out of the woods just yet so it?s too early to say for sure.

Some really good news is that we have improved the cog wheel spool and all MOVEZ will be supplied with the new spool and hopefully we will also have had the chance to improve (or make) more accessories so MOVEZ will work even better with different window coverings. The ability to use special accessories for different window coverings and equip MOVEZ with the ones needed for the moment have been one of our most central goals in the basic design. Thanks to this we can continue to make improvements and all users will be able to use the improvements.

We like to thank everyone for the support and we feel that MOVEZ will be a really solid product and you have all made an excellent choice pre ordering one.

The BT version has already started shipping earlier this year. The Z-wave version should start shipping soon. (it was slated to start end of March) I upgraded mine to zwave

FYI - I would beware here a bit.  The company was running out of capital sold stopped filling backers prepaid orders and sold them on their online store (so kind of double dipping there to stay solvent).  About half their BT backers never received there Moves.  Then they turned around and starting pre selling Z-Wave.  But many original BT backers never received their units.  They keep promising they will ship them eventually.

In my opinion product is of so/so quality.  Not terrible except for the solar panel which is complete junk and won't charge the batteries.  Depending on your blinds expect to have to charge the batteries every few days to every few weeks.  I just keep mine plugged in and don't use batteries, they get more power that way.

+1 For shallowearth's comments. Ditch the solar panel and run off cable and you have a chance. Otherwise, very soso. i have one but i am not buying more.
Unfortunately, the saying 'you get what you pay for' is very true here.

Sounds like they need to go on Shark Tank to get some funding. So are there any other affordable alternatives out there that wont cost hundreds of dollars?

Anyone in the UK thinking about getting a Move and just wants to trial it first?
I have a bluetooth version which can be used to see what you think before buying the Z-wave version.
All in as new condition.

pm me

The solar panel is tiny, even in direct sunlight it does virtually nothing, I am not sure what they were thinking, it will be usable as a LUX sensor for controlling automation if they ever get arround to updaipting the app, I don't see much else use for it.  They so drastically under estimated the pull strength needed for the average blinds, that you can easy use over half your batteries in one up-down cycle, no solar panel, even a large one is going to be able to compensate for that kind of power requirement.   In contrast the MySmartBlind which I also use has a huge solar panel which works great even in the winter here in the Northwest which is amazing (it sit right behind the head rail so is barely noticeable), but the power need to tilt my Venetians is tiny so trickle charging is all I need.

If you have very cheap roller blinds that need virtually no force to move them you might get away with batteries and solar (assuming you pull the tension spring out of the head rail).

No, no integration with Vera on the MySmartBlind, they are Bluetooth and didn't seem to have any interest in working with others.  But the room I use them in, all I needed was set time automation so Vera integration was not a priority.  They also have a little wall mounted remote that is pretty well designed (sticks to the wall with a magnet in the base plate which is cool).  Makes it easy for visitors to use, and groups my two blinds together so they open/close together (I have two blinds on a large Window).

Apparently they are releasing a bigger solarpanel at the same time as the Movez :) Got the info from them when asking about the bad charging with the current solarpanel.

New update:
Quote
We have a big announcement to make.

All units will have BOTH Z-Wave and Bluetooth!

The delay we have in bringing MOVEZ to the market is due to the fact that we are making it with two radio protocols. We figured we try to push the boundary a bit further!

We are also focused on getting MOVEZ compatible with as many HA systems as possible out of the box. For instance SmartThings and Amazon Echo. Voice control would be nice right?

With that said, we are still on target to release MOVEZ in July.

We are also developing a bigger solar panel that will be available in our web shop. This solar panel is intended for all users that will install the units in windows that do not get that much direct sunlight. It will work on both MOVE and MOVEZ.
Again we like to thank all backers for the support and the feedback we have received.

We are constantly striving towards keeping a dialog with all customers but with the ever increasing number we feel it is harder and harder to keep up. That is why we have started to implement a support system that soon also will be accessible through our new website. The goal is to gather all incoming messages through the different communication channels we have (facebook, google+, instagram, youtube, twitter, email and so on) in one place. This will help us answer all customers faster and more accurate. We will also start publish a lot of new user guides once the support system is up and running at our new website.

Thank you!
