Title: vera sonoff ESP8266
Post by: ElCid on March 11, 2017, 09:55:02 am
hi i have several sonoff 1oa relays. i've read lots of tutorials about flashing them to ESP8266. i was wondering if veraplus supports ESP8266

What do you mean supports it? You want to install a DIY WiFi module in a Vera? Vera does not support this.

Or are you asking if Vera could talk to a device that is using the ESP8266 WiFi module? Yes, Vera can communicate with any device on the network using TCP/IP. The question then becomes; can you write the necessary Lua code to make Vera talk to that device? HTTP requests are easy one-liners. Socket communications are much more advanced.

Check out espeasy. It's a simple OS for the ESP. To interface it with Vera, you can send http messages to and from the Vera.  This means you can also have the ESP trigger devices or scenes.

cheers for the replies. i will check out espeasy
and i will look at sending http request to the device.

once again thankyou to you both

i am looking at these devices to add a cheap way of controlling garden lights  with vera. As sonoff devices are ?4.50 and if they fail the cost is cheap

How can you send http messages to and from vera? Can we add a device with the sonoff smart wifi switch with it? Thanks!

There's a lot of information all over these forums on how to send HTTP commands to Vera.  Here is another site with a system that automatically creates the commands for you:

As for controlling Sonoff with ESPEasy, you need to flash the ESPEasy firmware on to the sonoff chip.  This requires soldering and some electronics skill.

The link above allows you to call for vera's API to send http command TO the vera.
I'm actually looking to create a switch in the devices page which can control sonoff

My sonoff already successfully flashed with ESPEasy. Now is just finding ways to integrate with the Vera. Seems really hard  :-\

For those looking to use sonoff devices with your vera, check this out:

I have made some updates to the article on using ESP Easy on the Sonoff devices with Vera.  I have now documented not only how to control the Sonoff, but also how to use the local button on the Sonoff device as well as having it report it's status back to the Vera controller when the local button is used.  You can read the full article at https://dan.bemowski.info/2017/07/04/using-a-sonoff-with-espeasy-and-vera/ (https://dan.bemowski.info/2017/07/04/using-a-sonoff-with-espeasy-and-vera/)

Hi Geeks n Gurus, Need some help here.

I have tasmots firmware on sonoff which I think is based in ESP8266, now tasmota communicates with my Home Assistance app in rpi, via MQTT. Which works fine. How ever I want my vera to control sonoff, and I followed the tut. The only difference is my GPIOs are not used AFAIK. So I did not touchthe GPIO settings , just updated the IP and reloaded LUA and the device WAS online, but didnt work. :( Can anyone explain, guide hoe to make vera work with tasmota firmware.

The one thing the was hanging it up from working in a article is you forgot to name the device 1 "Relay" in the Name: box which kept the rules from working properly. I'm still having trouble with Vera updating with the button push of the Sonoff though. I'm not sure what the issue is yet but I know I have the right local ip of the Vera. I'll keep working on it for a bit.

UPDATE: It is working reporting back to Vera it can just take between 30 to 60 seconds.

Unfortunately the product PLM to integrate Insteon with Vera is not available in Australia and unlikely to ever happen.

Only way you can do this is use a software controller that support zwave and insteon.
