Oh crap:
Just recieved an update of imperihome saying it is going to be subscription based per user. And something about premium option.
Anyone has more info? I can't fine anything on the website from imperihome.
Cor
-
Yea, it is a bit confusing.
-
It highlights NEW premium users.
I'm gathering that means if you have pro already you're ok.
Hopefully it'll mean new features coming
-
I'm afraid so, but I hope only for new Premium users ....
ImperiHome having to pay would be a nice fall for new VERA users, it is the only interface that fits logically.
AltUI looks like a work of Kandinsky with a stomach ache..and they make you pay! ;D
VERA App with My Modes is useful as a fan at the North Pole.
I mean ... we're not lucky :-\
-
I would love to see Actiontiles work with Vera. Looks to be a nice interface. It looks like it only works with SmarThings at this point in time: https://www.actiontiles.com/

But what is a premium user , is that someone who bought the pro version?
And how do they define a user? , the imperihome on my walltablets don't have a username for example.

Evertygo refers to the paid version for Android as Imperihome Pro, but on the Apple iOS AppStore, it is referred to as Imperihome Premium. That would indicate Pro/Premium are the same. Perhaps "professionelle" got translated from French differently when the app was submitted later on to the AppStore?
I'm quite happy with Imperihome but may need to dig into the Dashing/OpenHab platform a bit closer.

I have to say that I have been using Imperihome for a few years now, and as much as I am a cheapskate I would frankly be willing to pay to enable them to continue to support & update the product itself, in particular if the alternative is for them to *stop* developing it....

I have to say I would not. I would pay more for the app up front, but another monthly fee for an app, I would not do, nor would I promote it.
My business is based on monthly fee free systems.

Bought the app, but I agree, I'd be hard pressed to pay a monthly subscription. It's a large part of why I have an antenna outside...

I understand, but then again the content you get from the antenna is generally supported by advertising revenue and I certainly don't want that on the app. I also want the developer to be able to maintain their business so the app continues to be supported and developed.
I didn't say anything about a monthly subscription - was thinking some sort of compromise where you pay a fixed amount for the app (which is what we've done now) and then pay again when a major release appears same as is done for Word, Excel, Lightroom, etc eg with a discount for existing users. You can choose to keep the old app and not pay anything else, or pay something to benefit from the additional features etc and encourage the developer to continue working on it. Just saying....
Whatever the case, sounds like the developer is not going to make this retrospective ie existing app purchasers will not have to change.
-
A monthly subscription would be a big no no for me. When I buy something that is it, I expect that it is payed and done. Paying for updates etc I don't mind, I am willing to pay for the effort people put in to make a better produkt, but a subscription , I consider that as a scam.
Cor
-
Yea, it is a bit confusing.
So is there now Free, Pro and Premium or does Premium replace Pro?
I don't mind paying if there's increased functionality added to the app but just having a monthly extraction from my bank account doesn't sit well with me.

I guess the big question is...
Since I love running it on the Android devices, do I go ahead and tell the wife to buy it for her "i"device now so she wouldn't be a new Premium subscriber as was shown in that screen cap? I've not gotten that message myself, so I'm going off of what you guys posted.
-
I still want to pay 29.99$ for the app instead of 0.99$ a month for the subscription.

Is it that expensive to put on an iDevice? it was a few buck for Android.

They have already started requiring you log into IH with a username and password and, or create an account to open IH in their latest beta.

I'd definitely consider it. Never know you might end up with an old iPad you could repurpose as a wall controller....

Hi Everyone,
I am from Imperihome and I would like to clarify some information since it seems we haven't been so clear.
ImperiHome will upgrade its services in the coming weeks. On top of the standard SmartHome service we will add some new global Open and self data Services, which will be updated and completed on very regular basis.
These new services will be FREE for all PRO or Premium users which have already purchased the APP. We will just need you to register in the next update in order for us to indentify you.
If you don't want to register or to have access to the new services DO NOT MAKE the next update. ImperiHome will continue to work as of today.
All New Premium users after the next update will have to pay a monthly subscription. A free and limited version will remain available. A new website will be available every soon with all detailed info.
Hoping you will like the new version of ImperiHome, and hoping my message will help to clarify some misunderstanding.
Do Not hesitate to send your comments on the new version at contact@evertygo.com

"global Open and self data Services" ??? Still clear as mud!
Is there a way to stop automatic updates (within the App)?

I miss SquareConnect.
I have the free version of ImperiHome, and like it, but really liked the SquareConnect product. A lot.....

Can you clarify treetop777's question?
Also, for "grandfathered" users how do we get "grandfathered in"?
Thanks!

I have a question regarding those of us who purchased the PRO version.
Both my wife and I have PRO on our phones (we paid for two PRO licenses). Will we need to have two Imperihome accounts?

I have it on my android and the wall mounted tablets. My wife uses it on her iPhone. It'd be nice to have this all under one account but may not be possible. Please advise, ImperiHome.
-
I'm currently an Imperihome Pro user and just registered and can confirm that the Android app is working just fine with no requirement to buy a subscription.
The only new feature I can see in the latest version (4.04) is a new "Smart City" service selection menu. I can select EPA Air quality or New York bike sharing, and all the other options are relevant only to France/EU. This smart city stuff is certainly worth nothing to me at this point, but they say stay tuned for monthly updates. I couldn't find any info on what this "open/self data service" refers to, either in the app or online at their website.

So, quick question.
My tablet went into a constant loop the other day, so I had to do a full reset. I have reinstalled the app, but of course it's the new version that requires a user account. I updated the app on my mobile and created an account, and have full 'pro' access on that. But logging on via the tablet and I am asked to upgrade.... Basically, does it mean that you *only* have the pro version if you upgrade the app on your existing mobile/tablet? If you buy a new mobile and install the app, does it mean you no longer have the pro version? Is there some way that the user account that is created can have an identifier that flags the user as an existing Pro user?
*update* - found that I just needed to scroll through my purchased apps and locate the 'pro' version & install that. It then 'flicked the virtual switch' that unlocked the features from the app on the android app store.
-
Yeah, same here, had to reinstall from the play store. There is no "pro" unlocker in the play store anymore so there is no option (right now) except to subscribe to the monthly service to get full access.
Hard to swallow.
(..But you know a man has his work-arounds!!!!) ;)
-
(..But you know a man has his work-arounds!!!!) ;)
Sigh, true, true but my care factor was fairly low. My old tablet was pretty awful, and I had a bigger & slightly better tablet that had the old version on so I simply updated that and it's on the wall instead as the main controller for now.
-
Have just updated to this new version. I had a pro version before. Setting up a new a tablet and there seems to be no way to add Vera to it. What am I missing? Where is it?

Look under "My Objects". Doesn't make much sense, I know, but hey. :-)
-
I was having issues with Imperihome and like many, purchased the Pro version of the app back in the day. I asked Imperihome via their website what the difference was between Pro and Premium; if we were grandfathered in and did not have to pay a monthly fee. Their reply....
..."as a Pro customer you are automatically becoming a Premium customer. You just need to create your account and you will get the new 4.0 version including new functionalities. Regards."
So it sounds like we become non paying Premium members.
-
Ninkasi, thanks. After a little while adding a system did appear in the My objects screen and I was able to add. Took a little while though

You know what, come to think of it, i'm going to let one of my "PRO" versions auto-update from the play store. Based on their "reply" all i would have to do is create an account and continue to have full functions INCLUDING WHAT THEY ARE CHARGING FOR NOW as a new "converted" premium customer! Yeah right! I'll report back.
-
@treetop777 I did just that, upgraded. I am skeptical but so far I have three touch screens working on 4.0.4 after signing up for an account. Added the third touch screen after signing up.
I guess time will tell.
-
Confirmed. Upgrading from "pro" will give you "premium" automatically (without a monthly fee). You will have access to whatever those other services are..
-
Me and my wife are also a happy user of Imperihome Pro. We just registered both as an account (with different e-mail adresses). Problem is that we both don't receive the activation e-mail... It is also not in spam box. Did you have the same experience ? How long does it take before Imperihome sends the activation e-mails ? I also send them an e-mail to report this problem.
-
The activation email I rdcieved immediately , but To logon gave me a failure ...... I will try again today.
But what with the different accounts. Can you have more accounts on 1 Pro Licence?
My walltablets and girlfriend are still on the older version ........ and I am a bit reluctant to upgrade.
Cor
-
........ and I am a bit reluctant to upgrade.
Cor
You can upgrade and continue like nothing happened; Imperihome says they would be able to detect you are a PRO user and automatically transfer you to premium.
But you know what, I wouldn't! unless you have a way to revert back.
-
We received the activation mails finally after more than 8 hours. I have now a premium license. As far as I know you have 1 account per license (but you can use that account on more devices like smartphone and tablet)
-
Ah , that is good to know.
thanks,
Cor

I scrolled through my owned apps in the play store, and was able to find the pro version there and installed it. I still had to make account, but I was able to access the application features

Ah - had not bothered to do that (I've been using android for years, and the list is quite long)! Indeed, with my tablet that I had to wipe and then found that installing the Imperihome app I ended up without the pro features - I went through the list of owned apps and found the 'pro' version. All good.
-
I just tried paying for it and they wanted $4.99 per month.
Are there other similar options out there?

Imperihome is great, but the subscription is steep now. You can of course use the restricted free version, or the Vera app, or there are a few other options such as "Yeti". If I hadn't bought Imperihome before the subscription stuff became mandatory I'd probably stick with Vera and Google Home (or Amazon Alexa) and control most things with my voice (You use a tablet/phone to turn your lights off? How 2015.... LOL).
-
Thanks, i wanted a nice wall mounted tablet as an alarm keypad and i am not sure you can get the vera app to demand a code?

If you're like me, you waste 5.00/month on you-don't-know-what! Imperihome is a very nice interface, don't deprive yourself from it over 5.00/month.
Like for example, if you bought the thing that was suggested by the other member, that would be around 2 years worth of Imperihome fees and it can't display a camera.
Imperihome has "home" and "away" so it would serve your purpose and much, much more. You can also have multiple wall mounted units all over the place.
We sometimes get hung-up on "it's the principal" and don't get things that are useful and would enjoy.
I'm a long time user but if i had to pay (5.00/month), i would! Especially knowing that Vivint charges 85.00/month and Honeywell is something like 35.00/month for remote access.
That is IMO.
-
I started using Imperihome years ago when it first showed up in the playstore and I purchased the pro version that I use it on tablets around the house.
The additional features that they are offering are useless for me being as most of them are not useful in the USA.
I think they are moving away from home automation and might change to much for me.
I also think charging $5 a month is crazy for what they offer.
Right now they don't charge me because I was/am a pro user before they changed but how long before they change that?
I been looking for alternatives and there are few but thehomeremote looks promising.

I've been looking at ImperiHome, seemed perfect for my needs but have been putting it off while focussing on other areas. Began to set it up this weekend and realised it is now a subscription model - was $9.99 to purchase, now $5.00... every... single... month. In fact much worse than that - needs multiplying for my currency.
I understand fans of every single product and service will say it's not much - but if you add up subscriptions for every app, music, movie, sport, television (which in itself is getting out of control now with everyone is pulling out of Netflix and starting up their own services so fast approaching needing 10+ subscriptions for that alone), even my darned doorbell wants a bloody subscription... it's totally and utterly unsustainable.
So it's not just "hey skip one coffee", if you actually consider all of the subscriptions everyone is demanding these days it's actually "hey skip your family's meals this week".
But in this case, it doesn't even make sense. A product that costed outright $9.95 you'd expect maybe 80c per month (roughly $10 a year) - that's still a massive leap but kind of understandable as it now brings them in an annual income. But recouping the outright purchase cost every two months, what the heck am I missing here? What a shame after all the good word everyone has said about it :(

Much agreed. I've used it for years and luckily grandfathered in. The current downside is users complained for years for more abilities to customize and it never materialized. The original company was bought out too one member pointed out. I will not pay for it if they change my grandfathered status later.

It's true that "in principal" Imperihome feels to be ripping-your-head-off now, but guezz, to imply that your family would go hungry is a bit exaggerated! :o
While the program might have some shortcomings, it is also full of features. Don't deprive yourself, try it, you may conclude it's worth $5/mo.
@tomtcom
I know you're a major contributor in the Imperihome development group over at G+ (and here); i imagine you may have an elaborate set-up using Imperihome so i wonder, what would you switch-to if you had to pay?

Thanks. It's probably not elaborate at all and I could do more if I had more tinker time.
Honestly I dabbled in the past with tasker and autovera widgets on the phone screen and it does work but limitations for those that are non Vera.
I further never found a true wall mount I wanted to utilize imperihome full time with a tablet.
I also posted that BlueStacks Android emulator version 3 on the PC works awesome with imperihome which opens more possibilities with a NUC as an example.
Beyond that there aren't much other choices for platform agnostic that best imperihome.

Sorry no, I wasn't saying $5 a month will kill anything... what I am saying is that every single thing in life wants to now charge us $5-$50 a month - even my darn doorbell, even things I DO subscribe to are now being split into many other products that you now need to individually subscribe to.
Yes yes yes, only $5 for ImperiHome. Yes yes yes only $5 for my doorbell. Yes yes yes only $5 for every different product. Yes yes yes only $50 for the sport I used to follow on free-to-air TV now exclusively on PayTV. Yes yes yes only $x for this, $x for that. Every software product, even Photoshop, wants a subscription. Every product wants a subscription - even the door lock on my holiday home has a darned monthly subscription, that's why I'm replacing it with a Z-Wave one now. Music, movies, everything. Add it all together... it's hundreds upon hundreds of dollars per month.
One thing, easy. But everything wants to be subscription now. Add it up and it's not viable.
Realistically priced though, sure. So if ImperiHome and other products were say 50c-80c a month sure, if you do the math that works out to re-buying the product every year... okay not fantastic but probably fair to ensure continued development. But being charged the full purchase price every month or two... add everything together, not just one product on its own, and I can't see how anyone can afford that.
Netflix is a great example - in a few years time you'll have your Netflix subscription for their own developed content, but you already need Stargate Command subscription with MGM for the content that was removed from there, you will soon need Disney Star Wars subscription for the Star Wars content in process of being removed, Disney subscription for all the rest of their content, MGM subscription, All Access subscription, everyone else who wants to charge for their own. Each of these are $5-$20, each. So now instead of $10 for Netflix (which has gone up to nearly $20) you're talking over a hundred bucks a month JUST for that content, not even counting anything else.
So it's not $5, which in itself is nuts, it's the overall concept that everything in life wants to charge subscriptions. Not to mention that everything we already pay for annually (at least in Australia) such as private health is going through the absolute roof.
Yeah I'm going completely off topic, just very frustrated where things are headed LOL :)
-
I hear you! In fact, just last night i discovered that to view this particular movie that is "on DVD only" I have to pay for an additional fee! WHAT! I though i got unlimited movies!!!
Indeed frustrating!
-
I work in a field where a lot of things are beginning to be pushed toward the subscription model. I know a lot of it seems to stem from the reports that the younger generation would prefer to rent anything rather than own it. They want to lease cars or hire an Uber, they want to rent a home, they want to pay for streaming services rather than buy a movie, etc. It has gotten to the point of ridiculous what is being pushed toward subscription for the purposes of recurring revenue though.
I have a manufacturer that wants me to sell an access control system that is subscription based. So, you own your own building, you purchased the hardware for electronic locks, card readers, power supplies, etc... and someone wants you to have to pay them monthly to be allowed into your building. I've seen the same with intercom systems, alarm systems, surveillance VMS and storage, etc.
I bought Vera for the simple fact that nothing is processed in the web and I have the choice of if I want to install updates and upgrades. I want nothing about my home to require monthly payments for it to work other than my mortgage/taxes/insurance, and my utilities. My utilities are paid based on me buying a product in a certain quantity....not just some nebulous fee for access to it. I want to own what I pay for.
If they ever revoke the grandfathering for Imperihome and move us to subscription I will cancel, uninstall, and not look back even though I use it heavily now.
-
I'm going to chime in here, in the odd chance that the folks at ImperiHome read these forums ...
I came to the party kinda late, far to late to get a grandfathered copy of IH Pro. So, I'm stuck with Free or Premium:
- The free version arguably handles 75-80% of what I want the app to do -- i.e., provide a uniform UI for my phone, tablet, and PC that doesn't waste ridiculous amounts of blank space like UI7. I'm limping along with the Favorites in the free version's flat devices list, and other than the questionable choice of 30% of the screen containing a gigantic yellow star, it shows me all the items I might care about on a vacation or a day trip clearly and concisely. I'd love to have the configurable UI, but it's not worth a lot of extra cash. I wish they wouldn't have crippled the dashboard so completely in this version.
- The integration aspects are not extremely compelling for me. I've already spent $$$ getting my home up to snuff with Z-Wave, and the TV is fine with the Gen 1 Logitech Harmony remotes. I don't think I'll be adding a Nest thermostat, a set of Philips Hue bulbs, or a Harmony Hub anytime soon. Maybe a door camera? And I live in a town of about 3,500 people 75+ min. from Boston, where the 'Smart City' is never gonna catch on. I don't really need 50-60% of what the Premium version provides today, let alone any wonderful new features supported by subscriptions.
- Unless I'm misunderstanding the app's capabilities -- it wouldn't be the first time ::) -- neither version is going to eliminate the 'brain dead' aspects of UI7 -- i.e., the need to create Scenes from scratch (no cut-and-paste), and to validate every single task of every Scene with multiple swipes and clicks. (Do I really have to choose the Thermostat in one place, then set the temperature on a different page?) ImperiHome isn't going to automate that process, right?
So even if I get past the subscription model (which isn't my preference), I'm subscribing to the equivalent of MLB Extra Innings, when all I want is to see the Red Sox games. What I need/want isn't worth $60/year for as long as I plan to stay with the app. I wonder if there is ever going to be a ImperiHome Lite, or the option to buy the old Pro version for a one-time fee? Probably not.
Regards,
-BW

Hello. We have dozens of customers using the old Imperihome Pro system. Now we are looking for another app, because the monthly payment system is not interesting for our customers. We know they prefer to make a bigger payment (for instance 50 -100 euros) than a monthly way.
-
+1 here.
Today I used the app icon to open imperihome. Username password? For what? To know what for? Luckily I still have the pro license. I would instantly ditch imperihome ifI wouldnt have that pro license anymore. 60 bucks a year and 300 for 5 years? For what? To switch my vera devices?!
AUCH!
-
Same frustration here, I have the "old"PRO version on a phone and on a tablet.
Now I want to replace the tablet, it is having hardware trouble.
As far as I understand I cannot use the old PRO version anymore ?
Is that right, someone tried this already ?
-
You can not search for the pro app anymore , but the pro app should still be in your (playstore) library , from there you can install.

If the tablet is an iPad, you can backup the old and restore it to the new.

Bad luck, when I look in the play store under "previously installed apps, I can only find Imperihome, not Imperihome Pro...

Unfortunately.. I can only find Imprerihome in "Previously installed apps"on play store, not Imperihome Pro.
Now I will seriously start looking for a (cheaper) alternative for Imperihome...

I set up last week a walltablet , under "library" it showed the pro version. And that was a brand new tablet.

That is funny, when I look on my android phone, I can only find Imperihome in "Previously installed apps"on play store, not Imperihome Pro.
But when I look on a Windows computer and login to Play store, I see more apps, also the Imperihome Pro. :o
edit: now it does not show the pro version on my windows pc anymore.
definitely going to try other remote apps, 60 bucks per year is ridiculous for an app like this

It is ridiculous. I am still grandfathered in with pro and would not pay anymore money. They were bought out by some other company a year ago or so and while updates come they never fix anything useful. While the last update should fix the remote hue problems the support emails go unanswered. For years we have asked to fix the text formatting problem on widgets. I supplied screenshots to them. And further to that the constant jumping back and forth when loading device states. Very annoying.
I'm hoping the update for UI8 and mobile app from Vera is as good as the poc picture they provided. If it is the first thing I'll do is uninstall Imperhiome. The only good thing I have with Imperihome right now is it works well with the graphs I set up from DataMine2.
Other than that I no longer have many positive things to say about it.
Oh and also one more rant....I disable location services and don't use their other objects. The gps/location retrieval kills phone battery. Maybe they fixed that but who knows.

I set up last week a walltablet , under "library" it showed the pro version. And that was a brand new tablet.

Yep. Same here. Because of the way google seems to randomly sort apps it can be hard to find, but it was definitely there - after a bit of a hunt -for me about a week or so ago.

In case anyone else was as turned off by the $5/mo sub service as I was, you may be happy to know that starting this week they've added some additional choices to get the old Pro version of the application. If you log into your account at https://account.imperihome.com you should see an option on the left side there to add premium service to your account. I paid $13 for a (2) year subscription to the old Pro service. For $30 you can get 6 years.
Having the ability to use an old tablet with the HTTP/API makes it worth $13 for 2 years for me. I'm glad they finally came to their senses about that ridiculous pricing model.

Have seen this. But why should I expand? I thougt my current (old) pro version would last forever...? Why would I renew? Would I be able to use that version besides my current one on another device?

It looks like it gives you access to the Pro version on 6 devices regardless of Ios/Android/Web. In my case I had a Pro license for IOS but not for Android so to pay $13 for this problem to go away for (2) years was worth it to me.

Thanks, after trying harder to search I finally found it: via a windows pc I logged in to Playstore with my gmail address, and there I could even select on which device it should be installed.
Took me some time to remember the credentials, but now it is working, thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Hey mtx123. How did you make it work? My old tablet died on me a few weeks back. Like you, I logged in the Playstore via a windows pc and select to the new tablet to install it, but when I tried to open it, I was asked to login into the new site which I do not have one.
thanks

Sorry, some time ago...
Yes it worked, the way you descibed it seems to be the same way I did it.
You should select the PRO version of the app, and it will ask for the Imperihome credentials, which after some trial and error I was able to remember..
