I would love to see those interfaces integrated into Vera that are mentioned above, they look pretty slick.

Please take out all the clutter. The UI shouldn't look like the cockpit of a Boeing 747. People will run and Grandma gets confused.

Simple and minimalistic design please.

Wow, v5 does not look good on Dolphin HD browser. The top weather plug is all messed up!

I agree whole-heartedly, please think clean and functional.  Easy to read buttons/labels, intuitive icons, clean customizable layout, and easy to quickly monitor and check for status.  Get rid of any employee who suggests wild, garish colors or spaceship graphics (unless you use LCARS, Star Trek is OK by me, kidding) or wasting valuable screen space for rounded controls and/or oddly propagating pop-outs that borrow inspiration from nature.  Dump all of that, for a clean, highly polished version of UI4 or UI2.

The thing that really scares me about the propsed UI renderings, is that they seem to be just skins.  Nothing seems to be changing to make the menus better organized or more intuitive, it looks to be the same information, links, buttons as before with a bunch of crappy graphics over them.  No offense to anyone's hard work but it really should be designed by the people who are going to use it everyday.

When I load up the front page, I want to be able to check the status of a device, operate it, or run a scene within 2 seconds of loading. This has to be done within 1 or 2 clicks or I might as well walk over to the switch and manually do it.

It's also important that anyone not familiar with the system can easily identify and operate a device or run a scene.

A simple gear or wrench icon up in the top corner of the screen should be the single method to configure anything. It should almost be hard to find the settings page to reconfigure any of the interface.

Please keep the colors simple. Use proven color themes. Apple chose the Industrial theme for their devices because in an industrial environment things need to be easy to identify and there should very little room for user error. The industrial environment has proven itself effective for years. Long before Apple made it popular. Please mimic this design strategy. I want the items I am looking for to pop out at me. I don't want to hunt for anything. The current blue themes make me feel like a drunken frat boy stumbling through Las Vegas.

Enough with the fancy color scemes already. Fix the core system problems first !
This is another open-sores product. Endless discussions about UI , colorschemes and other irrelevant nonsense. Meanwhile the serious problems are not tackled.

- password security
- z-wave that doesn't work correctly
- dead links in the current UI4  ( trashcan does not work, eula is blank , some pages have missing images )
- nonexisting documentation , outdated wiki showing screenshots from older ui...

You're right Vincent. The product could quickly turn into a drag queen.

@vincentimple wholeheartedly agree, other than eye-candy I can't seem to find out any infor if UI5 core code is built using UI4 as a baseline or it's new core code with a whole set of new bugs and issues for the user community to resolve. Also has anyone seen a release date for UI5?

[...]other than eye-candy[...]
Sounds like UI5 will have some interesting conceptual changes:

[...]We also have an agency working on UI5.  You can preview the concepts here: http://alexusart.com/ui5/  the goal is to eliminate having all these separate UI's like we do now (ie local Ui4, cp.mios portal, separate energy and video archiving, etc.).  In this case there's 1 and only 1 UI which blends both the local stuff and online stuff together, so it's exactly the same whether you access it remotely or locally.  For example, to view the device properties now you go to a local UI.  To view the device's events, you log onto cp.mios.  This confuses users to no end.  So now they're all in the device control and if you're operating locally without a cp.mios account, the 'event' tab just prompts you to login to your account.

I bought into Vera 18 months ago at UI2, numerous firmware versions ago, and a set of painful memories on failed upgrades since then.  Change is good but only once you have a totally solid foundation upon which to build.   Having gone thru the UI2 -> UI3 -> UI4 dance, I'm dreading a potential repeat performance.

Vera needs a totally solid and dependable platform with well written documentation and a highly intuitive interface.   If that can truly happen in conjunction with UI5, I'm behind you 100%.  But your history has me ... skeptical.

The concept behind UI5 looks very promising.  Just be sure it is *all* rock solid before making it available outside a formal and bounded beta program.

MCV -- I'm counting on you... show me what ya got!

@MCV, any news as to were VERA is at with UI5 in regards to development, testing and release date?

To all,

I know you want a message from MCV employes and i do hope they will respond to this thread. But to put your mind at rest a little bit, heres a small beta testers update.

UI5 has been developed and tested inhouse at MCV up until about a week ago.
Development and bugfixing is ongoing.

Roughly a week ago the first private beta was released to the beta test team here on the forum. Many of us have migrated and done some testing on this initial release.

Obviously we ran into miscellaneous "first build" issues that we openly discussed with MCV. Based on those findings of both inhouse MCV testers and the results of the mentioned beta testers, MCV is currently working on improving UI5 and fixing many of not most of the initial problems we encountered.

I cannot speculate on a releasedate, but i do know that there will be one more (or a few maybe) private beta release before a stable public beta, releasecandidate or even final UI5 will be released for use by the community.

Hope that helps putting your curiousity to rest!

- Henk

@Henk, many thanxs for the update on where UI5 currently is at. If one were to read between the lines looks like UI5 public Beta maybe available no sooner than years end probably around 1st quarter of next year. Mike

Mike,

my personal guess is, is that it might be quite a bit sooner.
I know the guys @MCV are really pushing on this and all effort goes into creating a releasable UI5 at the moment.

No guarantees of course, but my personal thoughts.

Very exciting!

It looks like Dan (the owner of Cocoontech I think?) will be posting videos of UI5 soon:

"I have pictures of the new Vera3 Lite, and a video showing off the latest UI5. I'll be posting the video very soon (still at CEDIA). The new UI looks better, with a focus on being more user friendly, energy monitoring and plugins. Stay tuned ;) If you have any questions you need me to ask, shoot an e-mail to electron@cocoontech and I'll try to stop there again."

Why are we even considering yet another UI version? REALLY!?!?!?!?!?

How about we fix the shiznit that's wrong with the current UI?!

As a consumer... a USER of this frackin' system, I want it to be reliable. If it's reliable, I don't have to LOOK at the interface, but maybe once every 3 months... it JUST WORKS!!!!!!

Let developers make skins for the freakin system if you want it to look pretty.

To any micasaverde employee: JUST MAKE THE SYSTEM WORK AND STOP FRACKIN' WITH THE D@MN INTERFACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was seeing the New UI5 video. Very fine interface.

Somebody know :
- Will i be able to use in Ipad the energy monitoring?
Now in UI4 not show the graphs because it is written with Flash player and the Ipad not enable the Flash.
- Maybe will in HTML5 view?

Noise on the street (nothing formally) suggests possibly 1st week of December, they (MCV) seem to be testing VERA 3 to ensure that it works with UI5. Also VERA 3 should be available around the same time-frame (early Christmas gift  ;D ... obviously with the proviso that nothing earth shattering (test wise) occurs between now and then..... Mike

yes, the plan is to release UI5 into a broad formal beta this coming week and then officially launch it in early to mid-December when Vera3 ships (and of course the firmware upgrade version for Vera2 users at the same time.

I don't even know where to ask this question, but can someone help me understand what Vera 3 is bringing to the table or point me to where that is described?

I'm still using Vera 1 quite happily.  I did buy a Vera 2 shortly after it came out but ran into some problems with it so went back to using Vera 1.  Is there/will there be a trade-in program or upgrade path?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

There's a topic here (http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,8373.msg53323.html#msg53323), including a link to the wiki with some specs.

great, just got my Vera2 4 weeks ago!

I am kind of starting to "unlike" MicasaVerde (just as everybody else in this forum) inability to communicate...

Anybody saw something about an exchange option?

They are also releasing a Vera "lite" version with a much cheaper price.  Maybe then,  I'll puchase  it.

If there's an upgrade path of some kind I may get it but I don't really see a need. The problems I have with Vera are unlikely to be solved by the new model. The issues all seem to be wither inherent with z-wave or due to firmware. I'm hoping the new firmware will correct many of the issues I encounter.
