Title: Multiwave update needed
Post by: Ndemarco on May 27, 2012, 07:57:14 pm
Don't get too excited. I have no new news.

Does anyone know if MCV has any news on VERA controlling the temperature?

Does Intermatic have any upates on being compatible with Z-Wave protocols beyond 2.78?

We must keep the collective pressure on MCV and Intermatic.

Where do you go to check the firmware availability for Intermatic?

it used to be at www.poolandspacontrols.com but it looks like intermatic has changed the site and I can no longer find the firmware downloads.

Just found the 3.2 update is now posted!.  Only problem is the instructions on how to do this are not showing up...  I have the update and the fancy USB dongle, just dont know the steps.

Yeah that URL is borked.  You should email or call them to get them to fix it.

Found this, but it is light on details...
"No more paying for costly software upgrades!  Purchase the Intermatic MultiWave transceiver USB stick for your computer; and you can upgrade both the MultiWave handheld and controller software with ease.  Locate the MultiWave upgrade file on our website for the latest software for your system.  Download and wirelessly install the upgrade software to your handheld and controller with the USB stick.  We are adding new manufacturers and expanding our control capabilities every day.  If we don't recognize your equipment today, we will in the near future."

3.2 update is http://www.intermatic.com/en/Products/Pool_and_Spa/Electronic_Controls/MultiWave/MultiWave_Timer_Series/PE653RC.aspx (http://www.intermatic.com/en/Products/Pool_and_Spa/Electronic_Controls/MultiWave/MultiWave_Timer_Series/PE653RC.aspx).

I pushed a message out to Intermatic asking for more detail on upgrading and to fix the upgrade instruction link,

Notes are:

Improved temperature range display starting at 12?F
Adjust actuators between pool and spa for freeze protection up to 30 minutes
Assign specific circuits to activate when freeze setpoint is detected
Set OFF time only schedules
Controller displays Out of Range when communication is lost
Set heater temperature to as low as 40°F for better flexibility
Controller display highlights current mode and temperature
Turn heater OFF for pool mode
Enable or disable heater safety feature
Controller communicates directly with AutoPilot Chlorinator

Hello everyone,

We now have the new 3.2 version of the MultiWave software posted on the Intermatic website.  I tested the website and successfully downloaded both the program/firmware and instructions for installing.  Remember, you must have the USB Zwave stick to update your system.  The 3.2 firmware address many issues brought to our attention by our current customer base, however, it does not address the Verde issues which reside on their side of the program.  A 3.3 update will be available later this year along with a new actuator controller that greatly enhances the functionality of the system.  If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks!
Allen

Hi Allen. Thanks for the information. A few questions to help as I plan to do the upgrade in a week.  I only have a few day window so need to have success.

No mention is made regarding Zwave communications. When the Intermatic system was originally installed we had to connect it with Vera first and then the handheld controller. IN the new software installation how does Vera connection occur. Does it maintain the current connection or do we need to reinstall it. If it needs to be reinstalled do we need to remove the pool controller from Vera before beginning the process.

Any guidance will be extremely helpful.

yeah! thanks for continuing development of this product!

I'm still anxiously awaiting solar control, though. :D

Hi. Looking for some help/guidance on updating th epool controller software. I am at the house, have the CA8700 z wave stick and have tried repeatedly to do the update. Each time when I get to step 14 and click on IFirmwareUpdate and press Connect (it shows a zwave netwok at that time) it results in an error box stating "Warning the default file is invallid ..."

Any ideas how to get through this/

I got that too. Just go to file/open and pick the 3.2 file. I think it is a bug in the fw loader program.

Spoke with Intermatic at length. To do an update you must have the handheld linked to the pool controller and not a secndary controller after Vera.  So exclude both and include the handheld direct to the pool controller. That worked (so far ...)

yeah, I had to do that too.

Ah, but then what? I have not been able to reprogram the handheld, and until I do so it does not know that the pool heater is to be controlled. Ugh!

I guess I'm confused about what you are having problems updating the firmware on. multiwave or vera?

To upgrade the firmware on the multiwave, I had to reset the multiwave system back to the defaults. Then I could get the firmware to update to 3.2. once that was done, I re-added the multiwave back to vera which revealed that you could no longer use the pool remote to control the multiwave. at this point I have removed the multiwave from vear so I can actually use it.

I am attempting to do the opposite. That is to use the handheld to program the pool controller and then connect th epool controller to Vera. If the handheld is then useless so be it. Most important is to reprogram the pool controller (done) and get it connected somehow to Vera. But I am stuck not knowing how to exclude the handheld without losing the programming in the pool controller. So that I can then include the pool controller into Vera.

Ok, I've done this dance in the past but it has been a while since I upgraded firmware.  So in doing the latest update, I was issued a newer Intermatic stick the CA8700.  I cannot get this thing to recognize on a Windows 7 or 8 machine.  It gets a generic default driver and the firmware update software does not detect it on a port.  Anyone else dealt with this?

This looks like a nightmare. My pool operates well, even allowing me to control the temperature. Any updates from the Gurus?

As to my own issue, the firmware stick is not yet compatible with 64-bit OS so you have to be sure you are using a 32-bit OS computer.  I'm just leaving this note for my future self since I will probably come back to check again someday  ;D

Any news on a 64bit support or reasonable Vera support.  I'm planning to get a Vera once this gets resolved.  No real point in the interim...

Minnes, I understand upgrading the MultiWave to v32 breaks the ability to associate the PE953 handheld AND Vers to the PE653. Can you confirm? I am hesitant to upgrade the MultiWave firmware.

I did the multiwave 3.2 upgrade, then did the pairing of the 653 with vera then the pairing with the handheld 953.

With the variable speed pump talking on rs485 there is not a lot of good to be said. you cannot control the pump at all through vera, only the handheld. you can control the 5 relays on the multiwave with vera though, but what good is it when you cant turn the pump on.

Maybe something didn't install properly but intermatic tech support said the same thing.

I am hoping he wasn't familiar with the product and was wrong.

does anyone know if I call tech support again if there is one person in particular I should be asking for?

Thanks

Kevin R

I hear there's a MultiWave firmware 3.3 out now. Has anyone been brave enough to give it a try?

Pretty sure that is the version I installed in late December. Not sure what the changes were. I had to reinstall to get the handheld working and grabbed the most recent version.

Intermatic sent me a stick to get my 650 up to 3.3 (in line with the warranty replacement remote).  I was able to get it running using Oracle VirtualBox to launch the Microsoft XP Mode VM.  Not for the faint of heart but it can be done inside a 32bit vm on a 64bit box.

I started a new thread related to upgrading the MultiWave to firmware 3.3 (33-33P or 33-33S) here:
