Title: What kind of switch / transmitter can I mount outdoors?`
Post by: jfiddler on June 18, 2011, 03:29:22 am
I'm controlling some outdoor deck lights via my micasaverde.  Works great!  I'd like to mount an additional battery powered transmitter out on the deck, so one could turn lights on/off without the remote control, which mostly lives indoors.  I can't find any outside z-wave transmitters?  Does anybody make one?  If not, how would I go about it?

thanks for any help with this.

Thanks, but that's not what I need.  That's an outdoor relay, and there are a few of them available.  What I need is a wall switch, or actually a transmitter that looks like a wall switch, that can sit outside.  So, the switch transmits to Vera, which transmits back to the relay (which is actually in my garage) to toggle the lights.  Does anybody make one?  Or, is there some other way I should be doing this?

How about trying to weather proof one of these:

inside one of these or similar:

Those things work?  Scene off works?

I know they are not straight forward to set up, however there must be trick to it as people have them up and running correctly, or at least the scene buttons anyway.

Also, you could potentially use a door or window sensor as a way to trigger the light.

When the contacts for the door sensor come together, it could activate a scene which flips the relay and turns those lights on.

Just an outside-the-switch-box thought...
