Root password for Vera Lite
« on: June 08, 2012, 03:34:43 pm »
My Vera Lite does not have WiFi and therefore no WiFi password on the bottom of the box.  Anyone know how to get the root password for a Vera Lite?

Does anyone have any idea why my Vera3 would not be accepting the root name and password ?

I have checked and doubled checked the password is correct (verified via used Futzle's plugin also using the Remote user's |  grep pass command) , but it still comes back with Access Denied via WinSCP ?

I'm sure it must be something obvious, but I'm stuck so looking for any ideas this forum has for it to work ?

Stupid question most likely but you are using root as the user ID and the password that's on the label on the bottom of your Vera 3? Unless you upgraded (backup & restore) from another Vera in which case the root password is the one on the label on the bottom of that Vera.

I'm not sure if there is a way to reset the root password as a user. That may need Vera Support's help.

Hi BOFH - there are no stupid questions :-)

Yep using root and the Vera 3 was restore from an old VeraLite ages ago - however I've run @Futzle's password reveal tool, which I'm assuming gives me the actual root password off the unit - but it is not liking it.  (I've  even tried the old one too (for the original VL, but no joy there either)

Using WinSCP / SCP Protocol / Port 22

Very strange - I'm welcome to any other ideas :-) (stupid or otherwise)

I have the same issue with my Vera3. Like you, I tried to ssh using root and my root password but alas no luck. The work around is to enable customer care then you will see a message below stating:

Tech support is enabled

12345678-xxxxxx (SSH: 12121 TS_SRV=vera-us-oem-ts21)

The 12345678 is your Vera serial number. The xxxxxx is the remote password. Go to ssh and type remote and use xxxxxx (whatever your remote password is) and you should be able to tunnel in.

If you figure out how to use the root password let me know too!!!

I thought I would try to  close this one out based on the issue I was having - by saying that

While the Wi-Fi key, and the Password plugin you can install both report that the root password is one thing e.g boss22task . I can confirm what as @BOFH said - that the password in the end for me was the original one from the device that I had taken the back up from.

So - it does indeed seem like if you do a back up from one unit and restore it to another , e.g even from a Vera Lite to a Vera 3 - the original root password stays/transfers with it..
