Enabling USB for Logging
« on: August 23, 2014, 05:14:03 am »
No USB functionality.

I have a Vera3 with the latest firmware (1.6.641) and can't for the life of me find where to enable the USB ports.

I've tried several different thumb drives and none will be acknowledged.  It remains saying:
USB Status: Disabled/Not Mounted

What am I doing wrong??

Please help. :)

Plugin USB then Reload.  After a reboot, it should detect.

Same here; I tried four different USB sticks with sizes; 16GB, 8GB, 4GB, and 2GB.  Do I need something even smaller?

I was told a SanDisk SDCZ33-004G-B35 works well.  I have it on order and should get it tomorrow.  I will let you know how it works.

Thank you, I'll monitor the thread.  I was hoping to capture a bit more log information on the USB drive, and not risk filling up /tmp :-).

Well,,,,
The SDCZ33-004G-B35 arrived today, I anxiously plugged into the VERA3 and the same as before - nothing!
The drive comes preformatted so I even went as far as to remove the partition to make it truly a "new disk". Still no dice. >:(
The partition the log creates is supposed to be 512MB FAT system and I even pre-created this partition and again no go.

There is a new version of the firmware coming over the horizon. Perhaps 1.7 will fix this for us.

Argh!  I ordered one too (it was only $8); and will report the results when it arrives.

Digging into Vera, I think I can see where the flash drive would be mounted via the /etc/mtab, but a "df" does not show it mounted.  Perhaps a manual mount will show the error, or the error is stuck in a log file somewhere...

I had the same problem. None of the drives I tried would work through the GUI. I used SSH to manually run the commands the web page runs and it all worked and the USB Drive now shows up in the web interface.
The same drive is also used for logging for the Datamine module/app thing

I don't have access to the Vera at the moment.

There were about 3 different shell scripts which made up the usb disk partitioning and setting up the swap. I didn't ever try it, but I assume you could setup a swap drive of any size when you do it manually.

If you search around the forum you may find the post that gave a hint on the script name which the web gui initiates.

There were not many commands, and it didn't take long. Maybe 10-20 mins once I found the script.

I will try and post something if I get a chance when I next get access to the Vera.

Did that with an old used 1GB traveldrive usb stick, works like a charm.

Seems that usb logging through UI is definitly broken!

Does anyone know if there is logging for the TWAIN DSM on the Mac?  How to turn it on and access it?
